Al Franken (Reuters)

The court battle over the result of last year’s U.S. Senate race in Minnesota continues, with no immediate conclusion in sight.

Incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman narrowly edged out Democratic candidate Al Franken, who has a history of ugly Catholic-baiting comments, in the initial ballot count. But Franken inched ahead following a recount.

Coleman challenged the recount in court,... READ MORE

The Daily Blog said this about Democratic politician Al Franken in a post on Election Day:

“If any political candidate in this year’s elections can be fairly accused of harboring deep-seated prejudice against the Church, it’s Al Franken.”

Now, more than two months later, the Minnesota state Canvassing Board today has certified Franken as the winner of a recount over incumbent Republican... READ MORE

This is the first part of a recent interview with Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver, speaking about issues related to faith and politics.

The interview was conducted by Thomas Peters, who operates the American Papist website.

As always, Archbishop Chaput gives thoughtful and concise explanations of the matters he discusses. And he corrects persistent misunderstandings about topics like the... READ MORE

Thanks, Bishops

Whatever the outcome of today’s elections, Human Life International president Father Thomas Euteneuer says Catholics owe a big thank-you to the U.S. bishops.

The Register couldn’t agree more.

By their words and actions, the shepherds of Catholic America have reminded everyone throughout this election cycle that Christian witness doesn’t consist in saying what’s popular, comfortable or... READ MORE

What's so funny, Al? (SPNPhotos)

If any political candidate in this year’s elections can be fairly accused of harboring deep-seated prejudice against the Church, it’s Al Franken.

The Minnesota Democrat, who is challenging Republican incumbent Norm Coleman in this year’s U.S. Senate election, has a lengthy history of anti-Catholic diatribes.

For evidence, take a look at this recent article by Katherine Kersten in the... READ MORE
