PoliticsDaily.com editor in chief Melinda Henneberger posted an article last week based on an interview with Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C.

Archbishop Wuerl explains why, in his judgment, it’s not proper to deny Communion to Catholic politicians like Nancy Pelosi if they present themselves for Communion.

The archbishop says that’s not the way the Church has traditionally dealt... READ MORE

On Friday, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismissed critics of federal funding of life-killing embryonic stem-cell research with this argument:

“We’ve had a situation where it’s faith or science — take your pick,” Pelosi said about how the administration of George W. Bush allegedly dealt with the funding issue and other hot-button issues that involve making moral choices about scientific... READ MORE

It wouldn’t be fitting to allow U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi to have the last word on the matter of Pope Benedict XVI’s words to her on Wednesday in Rome.

Pelosi turned a deaf ear to the Pope’s comments to her regarding responsibility of all Catholics, and especially political leaders, to defend human life.

Those wondering what impact Nancy Pelosi’s meetings with Pope Benedict XVI yesterday, and San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer 11 days ago have had on the Speaker, have to wonder no more. They haven’t had an impact, at least not on her positions on the life issue.

Pelosi’s spokesman, Brendan Daly confirmed with me just minutes ago that she has no plans to change her position on... READ MORE

When it comes to reconsidering her pro-abortion views, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi apparently hears only what she wants to hear.

Consider her extraordinary statement following her private meeting yesterday at the Vatican with Pope Benedict XVI.

After the meeting, the Vatican released a public statement, detailing the fact that the Pope was impelled to mark the occasion by pointedly... READ MORE

From a Vatican statement today:

“Following the General Audience the Holy Father briefly greeted Mrs. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, together with her entourage.

“His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death... READ MORE

(CNS/Reuters)

The Italian news agency ANSA reports today that U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to have an audience with Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday.

Pelosi, who is Catholic, has been Italy since Saturday on a six-day trip to that country.

The ANSA report echoes the rumor about the possible meeting with Benedict that was reported last week by The Washington Post.
