This Associated Press video pretty much tells a Catholic story straight-up, which is refreshing. No dark insinuations of hidden motives, no strange irrelevant context, as we so often find in stories about the Vatican even in coverage of benign topics.

Maybe it’s because of who they talked to: I have no idea who the Croation priest is, but you’ve got to love Father John Wauk and L’Osservatore Romano editor Giovanni Maria Vian’s sensible quotes.

(Fast4Obama4Life.com)

The presidency of Barack Obama is only a little over a month old.

But it’s already indisputably clear that the most pro-abortion presidential candidate in U.S. history intends to govern in accordance with his extreme pro-abortion political convictions.

So what can faithful Catholics do in the face of Obama’s promotion of the Culture of Death? Among other things, according to the READ MORE

Friday meditations on the Stations of the Cross during Lent are a long-standing Catholic tradition.

Here’s a video of a version of the Stations of the Cross, created by Jesuit Brother Edward Sheehy and edited, produced and posted on YouTube by Yvonne Balcer. It was filmed at St. Peter’s Church in Jersey City, N.J. in 2006.

The “Christ, Be Our Light” video has been posted on the website of Monsignor McHugh School in Cresco, Penn., to help inspire the right spirit for Lent. And it certainly does that!

Don’t forget to check out the Register’s Lenten guide as well, if you are looking for more help in... READ MORE

Nigerian Cardinal Francis Arinze will preach this year’s spiritual exercises at the Vatican’s Lenten retreat.

Cardinal Arinze retired earlier this year from his post as prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments.

The retreat, attended by Pope Benedict XVI and officials of the Roman Curia, will take place March 1-7.

The theme of the meditations will be “The Priest... READ MORE

Catholics have three basic penitential obligations to undertake during Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

All three sacrifices, however, are to be undertaken with a joyful spirit, as a means through which the faithful can draw closer to Christ.

And here’s a prayer and fasting commitment whose joyful implications are obvious: participation in the International 40 Days for Life... READ MORE

Yesterday, a Daily Blog post reported about the idea of giving up social networking for Lent.

Here’s an idea about what to do with some of the online time that would be freed up by that online sacrifice — make regular visits to the Lenten website of the U.S. bishops.

The site contains a variety of text resources as well as audio/visual resources provided by the Catholic Communication... READ MORE
