Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his wife Callista are working on a documentary about Pope John Paul II’s historic pilgrimage to his native Poland in June 1979.
The project is called “Nine Days That Changed the World,” and more information about it is available at the project’s website.

In a powerful speech delivered this weekend in Krakow, Poland, at an ecumenical meeting sponsored by Sant’Egidio in commemoration of the Holocaust, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau opened by recalling comments made to him by Pope John Paul II in 1993.

In this video, Rome Reports discusses the upcoming, first-ever Pope John Paul II international film festival, which will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Miami.

Joaquin Navarro-Valls has said Pope Benedict XVI could announce the beatification of Pope John Paul II as early as this year.
In an interview today with the Italian newspaper, Il Sole 24 Ore, John Paul II’s former press spokesman added to recent comments from Vatican officials who have said recent events won’t prevent the cause from going forward.

Mehmet Ali Agca, the Turkish man who nearly assassinated Pope John Paul II in May 1981, says he has converted to Catholicism.
Agca announced his conversion in a letter written from a Turkish prison, according to a report posted by Cathnews.
