Here is some exit poll data released today by the Faith in Public Life organization about how Catholics voted for president.

Overall, Barack Obama defeated John McCain 55%- 44% among Catholics, substantially outperforming the Democratic support garnered by John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000 against George W. Bush.

And among white Catholics, while Obama lost to a McCain by a 52%-47% margin,... READ MORE

Bishop Robert Finn of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Mo., advises Catholics who are contemplating a vote for Barack Obama for president to “give consideration to your eternal salvation.”

Those are some of the strongest words yet from a U.S. bishop regarding the incompatibility of voting for Obama and acting in accordance with a properly formed Catholic conscience.

But Bishop Finn’s point, that no... READ MORE

As expected, the archdiocese of New York’s Al Smith Dinner took place last night with a minimum of controversy.

In their remarks at the annual fundraising event, however, John McCain and Barack Obama did inject some welcome humor into the final days of this year’s presidential campaign.

The consensus of Catholic bloggers as to which candidate appeared to have the better stand-up comedy... READ MORE

Actor Eduardo Verastegui, star of the pro-life movie Bella, campaigned this week for John McCain in Denver.

The Mexican-born Verastegui says the Latino community should back McCain, primarily because of Barack Obama’s pro-abortion stand.

“More than 200,000 Latino babies have been killed every year in this country,” the Catholic actor told the Denver Daily News. “The life issue, for me,... READ MORE

Tonight’s a big night for Barack Obama and Catholics. Our very own Father Raymond J. de Souza writes about it in today’s National Post.

“The Al Smith Dinner is one of American Catholicism’s most glittering events — a massive fundraiser for the Catholic charities of the Archdiocese of New York,” he explains.

McCain and Obama plan to be there tonight. The dinner always gets a big name... READ MORE
