Conference Examines Responsibilities of the Catholic University

The Vatican announced late last week that the Pontifical Gregorian University is planning a conference to discuss the responsibilities of Catholic universities.
Titled “The Catholic University in Postmodern Societies,” the conference is being held Nov. 16-20 by the International Federation of Catholic Universities.

Cardinal Edward Egan of New York believes it is a ‘mistake’ for Fordham University to honor pro-abortion Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.
But Fordham is going ahead anyway.

New York-area boys are flocking to a Long Island Catholic school that adheres to strong discipline and Church teachings.
And Chaminade High School is unapologetically Catholic: All students must have a baptismal certificate to register.
The New York Times reported Sept. 26 that more than 1,600 boys last year applied for places in Chaminade’s 425-member freshman class.

Pope Benedict XVI said yesterday that Catholic schools are “an expression of the right of all citizens to freedom of education.”

A Catholic school in England has banned immunization of girls with a vaccine that inoculates against some forms of the virus that causes cervical cancer.
Supporters of vaccinations against human papilloma virus, or HPV, claim they are needed to ensure that girls who become sexually active do not acquire the virus.
