The Vatican annual retreat is now underway, running from March 1-7.
The retreat, on the theme of “The priest encounters Jesus and follows him,” is being attended by the Pope and the Roman Curia. It is being led by Cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

Nigerian Cardinal Francis Arinze will preach this year’s spiritual exercises at the Vatican’s Lenten retreat.
Cardinal Arinze retired earlier this year from his post as prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments.
The retreat, attended by Pope Benedict XVI and officials of the Roman Curia, will take place March 1-7.

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Cardinal Antonio Canizares Llovera of Toledo, Spain, as the new prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship.
Cardinal Canizares succeeds Cardinal Francis Arinze, the Nigerian cardinal who has headed the congregation since 2002. Cardinal Arinze, who is 76, is expected to retire to his native Nigeria.
