Speaking at yesterday’s Angelus prayers in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Benedict XVI emphasized the crucial role parents play in fostering vocations.

And as this Rome Reports video notes, he held up St. Monica, who made the conversion of her son St. Augustine her central objective in life, as an example of the influence dedicated parents can play in the spiritual lives of their children.

Italian journalist Andrea Tornielli, a veteran and well-respected Vatican watcher, reported on Saturday that Rome has initiated a major “reform of the reform” of the post-Second Vatican Council liturgical changes to the Mass.

Pope Benedict XVI’s phyisician, Dr. Patrizio Polisca, said today that the cast and pins used to help heal the fracture in the Holy Father’s right wrist have been removed and that an X-ray showed a “consolidation of the fracture.”

“The final result as a whole can be defined as optimal,” the doctor said in a statement.

Catholic News Agency reported yesterday about the details of this year’s installment of Pope Benedict XVI’s annual “Ratzinger Schulerkreis.”

In English, “Ratzinger Schulerkreis” means “Ratzinger School Circle.” It refers to the gatherings that the Pope has convened for many years, discussing various themes, with some of his former theology students.
