The Vatican announced today that Pope Benedict XVI has promulgated a decree regarding a miracle attributed to the intercession of Cardinal Newman.

JPII Anniversary

Tomorrow marks the fourth anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II.
An article published today by the Italian news agency ANSA reports that famous Italian actress Sophia Loren is among those who are publicly supporting the late Pope’s cause for beatification.

Our current Rome correspondent Edward Pentin broke the news Wednesday that Pope John Paul II reportedly is in line to beatified April 2, 2010, on the fifth anniversary of his death.
Our former Rome correspondent Father Raymond J. de Souza has spotted a big problem with this date: Good Friday falls on that day next year.

According to the Italian daily La Stampa, John Paul II will be beatified on April 2, 2010 — the fifth anniversary of his death.
Reporter Giacomo Galeazzi reports that thanks to an acceleration in the beatification process, documents pertaining to John Paul’s cause, called the “positio,” have already been forwarded by a commission of theologians to be examined by cardinals .
