The Acton Institute and George Weigel are two of Catholic America’s most prominent proponents of market-based economics.
But they have quite different views of Pope Benedict XVI’s new social encyclical, Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth).

The Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty is not a fan of the Senate Finance Committee’s bid to impose “lifestyle taxes.”
The “sin taxes” would increases taxes on alcoholic beverages and impose new taxes on drinks with high sugar and corn syrup content. The revenues would go to fund President Obama’s proposed $1.2-trillion health-care reform package.

Health Care Reform Video

I wrote a couple of articles last fall for the Register’s ongoing series on health care reform.
The series was suspended shortly before the election for two reasons: One, it seemed best to hold off more articles until after we knew who our new president would be.
