Pro-life and traditional family values advocates are reveling in bright news this morning. Republican Chris Christie ousted Democrat pro-abortion Gov. Jon Corzine in New Jersey, and Republican Bob McDonnell won Virginia’s gubernatorial race over pro-abortion candidate Creigh Deeds.

And Maine voters rejected a bill legalizing same-sex “marriage” with a healthy 53-47 margin.

Partisans are interpreting the results in their own ways: Republicans heralding a rejection of the Obama agenda, including the massive health-care overhaul, Democrats pooh-poohing that idea.

On a more local level, two county contests in suburban New York saw wins by pro-life Catholics. Rob Astorino beat Westchester County executive Andy Spano, who was seeking his fourth term, and Michael Kelsey was elected county legislator in Dutchess County.

But there’s another surprise here: Astorino is better known in the world of radio than politics. He has been station manager and general manager of The Catholic Channel, the Archdiocese of New York’s Sirius-XM satellite radio channel, for the past few years, and he has conducted a weekly interview with the archbishop of New York from St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Kelsey, too, has been involved in the media. Before he graduated from Quinnipiac Law School in Hamden, Conn., he worked for several years at Circle Media, the publisher of the National Catholic Register.
