In this video, Rome Reports discusses the upcoming, first-ever Pope John Paul II international film festival, which will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Miami.

The festival is being organized by the American production company 7eventhDay Media, Inc. with the theme “Faith Through the Storm.” It will consist of feature films, short films and documentaries that have the goal of promoting love, human dignity, respect, forgiveness and compassion.

As Rome Reports notes, it’s natural to link John Paul’s faith with film in this way.

“John Paul II gave up work on stage to respond to his vocation to the priesthood, but he never abandoned his passion for art and artists, to whom he wrote a letter on April 4, 1999,” the video comments. “For John Paul II, the Church and society need art because it can uniquely express the supernatural. At the same time, he warned that art needs faith because the artist is always looking for the ultimate answer to things.”
