Hope Paid Off. Thanks!

Well, we had resigned ourselves to be understanding and grateful.
We were going to announce this morning that we didn’t reach our fundraising goal.
I was going to thank those who gave, and be understanding, in our times, of those who couldn’t.
But after a last-minute $2,500 donation I can now simply say: Thanks to everyone, we made it.
Hope paid off.
In his e-mail that many of you received, Father Owen Kearns noted the need for hope. He said:
Left-wing magazines like Mother Jones and The Nation have been operating as non-profits for decades, relying on reader donations (not just subscriptions and ad sales) for one-third or more of their revenue.
And super-rich “progressives” such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have been funding left-wing causes for many years. Can you imagine how much more biased the New York Times will be if music mogul David Geffen gets control of it?
In this new media world, independent Catholic newspapers like the National Catholic Register – brave Davids standing up to the media Goliaths – will need your help more than ever. …
Can we count on you again?
Your answer: Count on us.
I firmly believe that the Church’s brightest days are ahead, and that we “Davids,” banding together and showing faith and trust in God, will prevail over the Goliaths that look so unstoppable now.
In the short term, we all face tough times. In the long run, though, we will be surprised at what the Truth will do.
We will be surprised because the Truth is stronger than us, and so we tend to underestimate it.
We almost underestimated you, too. We needn’t have. Thanks for your help.
