Obama at Georgetown

It’s attracted much less attention than his planned commencement address at Notre Dame, but President Barack Obama is appearing at another Catholic campus today.

He’ll deliver a speech this morning at Georgetown about the state of the economy.

According to the pro-Obama blog The Huffington Post, Obama isn’t expected to make any major announcements. Instead he intends to review the actions he’s taken to address the economic crisis during his first 100 days in office.

The Georgetown speech is less controversial than the May 17 appearance at Notre Dame because, unlike serving as commencement speaker and receiving an honorary degree, simply making a speech is not necessarily conferral of an honor.

Still, many Catholic Americans object to giving the pro-abortion Obama any kind of a platform at a Catholic institution.

One thing the selection of Georgetown does indicate: That Obama continues to assign a top priority to courting the Catholic vote.

Catholic blogger Dawn Eden notes that this courtship appears to be a very serious one; despite her strong pro-life credentials Eden was placed on the White House’s “Faith” media list, emailed the text of Obama’s speech today, and granted media credentials to attend the event.

Comments Eden, “What I think of a Catholic university’s hosting Obama goes without saying.”
