Fatima at 100

EWTN For EWTN’s slate of shows this month for the centennial of Our Lady of Fatima’s visits in 1917, see EWTN.com/fatima/programming.asp. Some highlights: At 4:30pm Oct. 12, in Our Lady of Fatima: International Rosary and Candlelight Procession, pilgrims will pray at the shrine in Fatima. Oct. 13: At 5am, Holy Mass in Honor of Our Lady of Fatima will include a blessing of the sick (re-airs noon). At 10am will be the Worldwide Children’s Holy Hour from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. At 7pm, Cardinal Donald Wuerl will lead the Worldwide Children’s Holy Hour Candlelight Rosary Procession and Consecration of the United States of America. At 8:30pm, Episode 7 of The Message of Fatima will tell of the “Miracle of the Sun” (re-airs 10am Saturday).

Theodore: A Gift From God

EWTN “I would rather die than betray my Church,” Blessed Theodore Romzha (1911-1947), told his Soviet Communist persecutors. The apostolic administrator of the Ruthenian Catholic Mukachevo Eparchy in Ukraine, Bishop Romzha told his flock, “Faith is our greatest treasure on this earth.” The NKVD secret police soon poisoned him.

A&E This documentary profiles the undercover citizen journalist group Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently, whose members have risked, and even given, their lives to expose the atrocities of ISIS in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa. Advisory: Scenes of persecution, executions and volunteer reporters operating under death threats.

Belarus: Seed Among the Thorns

EWTN In this 2013 documentary, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz and Bishops Wladyslaw Blin, Antoni Dziemianko and Aleksander Kaszkiewicz describe the heroism of the Catholic clergy and laity in Belarus as they preserved the faith during decades of fierce communist persecution. Many young people are faithful Catholics today.

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES Always inspiring, this 1937 drama stars Spencer Tracy as a Portuguese fisherman whose good example and kindly counsel help a spoiled boy (Freddie Bartholomew) whom he rescued at sea start on the way to maturity. A-1.

Mass at the 2017 Marian Rosary Congress

EWTN On the feast of the Holy Rosary, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Natoons, will celebrate Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Re-airs at midnight.
