Jesus Goes to College

It’s that time of year again: A new academic year begins. So many possibilities for learning about different subjects — and faith.

The most important must-have students can bring to college is Christ.

Christ is needed more than ever on campus. Be the students who bring Jesus there, witnessing with your words and actions and choices — in and out of class. Be active in Catholic student clubs or your local Newman Center. Go to Mass. Attend a Bible study. Share your faith with others.

I studied English literature and pre-medicine in college at a Big Ten university. I don’t remember organic chemistry anymore, although I can tell you the major themes of Jane Austen’s novels. But I well remember the moments of faith in my college days: singing at Mass at the Newman Center, giving a retreat talk on "God Is Love," and cooking for retreatants. I also have fond memories of my Bible study group; those friends remain my friends today.

Make your college career count by keeping faith a part of your campus life. You won’t regret it. You will be blessed if you bring Jesus on campus with you.

The Register’s College Guide is a good place to start.

God bless your college days!

Are there Catholic schools other than Franciscan University??? ;)
Alum ‘00

I quickly scanned the list and did not see any of the many Jesuit colleges, Holy Cross schools or schools like St. Johns, Depaul, etc.  Not to be too nit-picky, but by and large the schools listed are fairly small and obscure.  I went to a Jesuit college (Gonzaga) and no question the Jesuits have a desrved reputation for being liberal.  But at the same time I found many professors and Jesuits who fit completely within the definition of orthodox Roman Catholicism. I would say that Catholic Identity is more a matter of individual teachers in most cases.

Would you send us a hard copy of this guide for 2011?  There is not way I would be able to read the white on black issue that is on the web that would come off the computer printer.

Thank you

I was blessed to have graduated from a college on this list, Belmont Abbey College, and a university not included in your list, University of Notre Dame.  They each provided a solid foundation to live as a Catholic Christian adult.
I am grateful to have attended both.
