This headline, “Papa Bene Shuns Leader Who Slammed Church” seems to be quite a sensational headline for this story.
The Pope did not meet ANY of the leaders present for his speech except for the representative of the group. Whether this was because of practical reasons or fatigue or to avoid Enda Kenny we do not know, but it seems very unlikely that Benedict XVI would intentionally avoid a confrontation (which not have happened anyway) since it would be completely out of character for him.
