VATICAN CITY (EWTN News/CNA)—Pope Benedict XVI said Dec. 18 that the virginity of Mary guarantees Jesus’ divinity because it proves the Incarnation is solely the work of God.
“The human being that begins to live in her womb takes the flesh from Mary, but his existence is derived entirely from God,” said the Pope in his final Sunday Angelus address before Christmas.
“The fact that Mary conceived while remaining a virgin is, therefore, essential to the understanding of Jesus and our faith, because it witnesses that it was God’s initiative, and, above all, it reveals who is conceived.”
So while Jesus is “fully human” and “made of earth,” he “comes from above, from heaven” and is truly “the Son of God.”
Thus, said the Pope, “the virginity of Mary and the divinity of Jesus reciprocally guarantee one another.”
Pope Benedict made his remarks to several thousand visitors gathered in St. Peter’s Square. He drew upon the Gospel reading, in which the Angel Gabriel told Mary, “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.”
The Pope noted that this fulfilled the “age-old promise” of Isaiah, who prophesied seven to eight centuries before that “a virgin shall conceive and bear a son and call him Immanuel.”
Pope Benedict then explained the importance of the fact that Mary was “very upset” at the Angel Gabriel’s news and asked, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”
“In her simplicity, Mary is wise,” said the Pope. “She does not doubt the power of God, but wants to better understand his will, to fully comply with this will.”
While Mary is “infinitely surpassed” by the mystery of the Incarnation, the Pope reflected, she also “perfectly occupies the place that, at the very heart of it, she was assigned.”
Her “heart and mind are fully humble,” and because of this “singular humility, God expects the ‘Yes’ of this young girl to achieve his purpose” while still fully respecting “her dignity and freedom,” he said.
“Mary’s ‘Yes’ means both motherhood and virginity,” Pope Benedict observed.
He finished his reflection on Mary’s virginity and Jesus’ conception by highlighting the spiritual significance of her faith. Mary’s willingness to trust deeply in God and his plan, despite being a virgin, allowed her to “welcome Jesus and his divine life within.
“This is the mystery of Christmas.”

Pope Benedict’s words are so beautiful and wise. Protestants lose out on so much beauty in the Bible because they literally change the meaning of scripture. The pride and ego they displayed at their own interpretations is really something to see. The Holy Spirit led them to these beiefs - are they not aware that this is the Third Person of the Trinity and He can not tell different stories to different people for He is God. Scary. Mary is Our Mother, her yes to God gave us Our Brother, Our Savior. They discount her because as one protestant said to me, if Mary was born without sin we would not have needed Jesus (I have no idea what that means. I think that one day they will be asked and how did you treat my Mother.
The reflections of Pope is perfect and a revelation from above, from God. God is perfect in all He does. Purity, clearity and wisdom envlopes all He does. Divinity and Virginty are twin instruments of God join togeather in Jesus and Mary to bring us the Gift of Salvation. We owe Him the debt of appreciating this mystery and accepting the truth. Our Lord said to me,“Christmas is not about winening and dinning and nakedness; It is about the truth, and the truth is enfolded in the Creed.- I beleive in God the Father Almighty; The Creator of heaven and earth; and His Son Jesus Christ born of the Virgin Mary”.
Dear, cant you see that loving Jesus is wisdom is like pulling down the Bee Comb and feeling its sting. The sting is the Cross that Our Lord offers you, while the sweet honey you like is the wisdom, courage, love and peace of mind amidst afflictions Christ feeds you with. That is to say that it is like jumping into the store house of wisdom to drawing your fill from it. To find out the Way, the Truth and the Life; which is knowing wisdom and all it holds in offer.
The heart can only be defeated when it is removed from its source of Light; Its source of Life; Its source of courage. Any weapon fashioned against you can only prosper when the heart is removed from God; I beleve in God the Father Almighty. When you confess and truely believe this any other creature will be shattered. I call on all protestants, pentcostals and allnon catholics to come back to there Home, to come back to Mary the Mother of God and Mother of the Catholic Church and suck her maternal milk of Christs love, the Truth.
