“Marry us or you will drive us out of the Church!” I believe the problem today is that Catholics from childhood do not know what marriage means. Our Bishops and priests need to take a good look at their marriage preparation programs. They are very lacking in what marriage is all about. Many times they have Laity in charge of marriage preparation, laity who have no knowlegde of Sacramental Marriages themselves. My wife and I married at a Tridentine Nuptial Mass approved by our Bishop 21 years ago. The priest himself gave us marriage preparition himself, in 3 one Hour sessions. In those 3 hours he gave my wife and I a great understanding of what Marriage is and what it is not. My wife and I constantly refer to and talk about what that priest told us 21 years ago. Bishops and priests should take some good courses on what the Church Traditionaly teaches about Sacramental Marriage. Then make some changes on how engaged couples must be prepared. Bottom line is, that todays marriage preparation in the Church has proven to be a disaster.
