Keeping Promises

A NOTE FROM OUR PUBLISHER

In just a few weeks, Donald Trump will take the oath of office as the 45th president of the United States. Yes, there are things over which he may be at odds with the Church, and there are matters where we don’t know yet what to expect, but there are several positive takeaways.

As I’ve stated previously, a president who has a pro-life perspective will seek to appoint judges to the U.S. Supreme Court who will align with his view. President-elect Trump has stated he is pro-life and has pledged to appoint pro-life justices. He has implied that these justices would be instrumental in overturning Roe v. Wade and allowing the states, not an activist judiciary, to determine their own course of action on abortion. After the last election, most states would seem to favor varying degrees of limits to abortion.

The latest configuration of Congress would also open the door to defunding Planned Parenthood, another aim of the president-elect.As I’ve stated previously, a president who has a pro-life perspective will seek to appoint judges to the U.S. Supreme Court who will align with his view. In the aftermath of a very divisive election season, the road is clear for us:

We need to hold the new president and those we elected to public office accountable for their pledges. Politics is very fickle, and we need to stay true to our pro-life witness and never waver.

The Register will be there, as well. We’ve taken some criticism for our coverage of the candidates and the issues, but we’ve never wavered from our mission to inform our readers of the news through the lens of the Church.

President-elect Trump and his team greatly need our prayers. And they also need our public witness to life, as a compelling reminder that election promises should be kept.

God bless you!
