Homeowners are used to members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints coming to their doors, but many Catholic door-to-door missionaries are springing up across the country for the purposes of evangelization.
The efforts have no centralized headquarters. They’re simply the grassroots efforts of faithful Catholics who continue to bring the Good News to the ends of the earth.
For marketing representative John Rosenthal and retiree Roger Cruze, the door-knocking effort was the outgrowth of Rosenthal’s business.
“As I went door-to-door as an appointment setter for a home-improvement company, I kept encountering broken people,” said Rosenthal. “I would pray for them as I walked to the next house. That’s how it all started.”
After hearing a talk on college evangelization by a Fellowship of Catholic University Students’ missionary at his parish, Rosenthal felt convicted to do something more to spread the Catholic faith.
Rosenthal recalled that Cruze, a fellow parishioner at Holy Family Church in St. Louis Park, Minn., knew some apologetics and had taught confirmation class, so he approached him about the idea. With the blessing of their parish priest, they began knocking on doors in the neighborhoods covered by the parish in October 2010.
Cruze admits that going door-to-door was “way outside my comfort zone.”
“On our first day out, at the first house we knocked, we spoke with an 80-something-year-old Lutheran and his wife who was a former Catholic,” said Cruze.
“After introducing ourselves, he said, Catholics, huh?! We’ve had Jehovah’s, the Mormon boys and even Assemblies of God. We ain’t never had any Catholics here before. Where ya been?” recalled Rosenthal.
“We go door-to-door to plant seeds,” added Rosenthal. “To give others who may not otherwise have been given the invitation to come to Mass and to explore the richness and beauty that we enjoy in the Catholic faith. We hope that sooner or later they will choose the fullness of Christianity — in the Catholic Church.”
To date, Rosenthal and Cruze have visited nearly 1,000 homes. They typically make their visits on afternoons, evenings and weekends. They’re able to visit approximately 20 homes — or a city block — in about an hour.
Simple Method
Their method is simple. Rosenthal and Cruze introduce themselves and ask the homeowner if there is anything they can pray for. They hand each person a miraculous medal, a Divine Mercy holy card, and a card with useful Catholic websites on it. If the person seems open to it, they’ll invite them to Mass at Holy Family, and depending upon the situation, offer them a CD either on considering the Catholic faith or growing in one’s Catholic faith.
Both Cruze and Rosenthal would like to see other parishes adopt a door-to-door campaign. They’ve produced a manual to help others get started. The “Catholic Door to Door Evangelizing Guide” is available as a free download through their website.
Mark Middendorf, president of Lighthouse Catholic Media, took the door-to-door concept a step further at his parish, Holy Cross in Batavia, Ill. With the leadership of the pastor, they piloted the program “Open Doors, Open Hearts,” which sought to reach the door of every parishioner.
“I expected we would have 50 volunteers,” said Middendorf. “We had 300, and we knocked on about 5,000 doors.”
As part of their door-to-door-evangelizing effort, they passed out a “welcome kit” featuring two different CDs — one for practicing Catholics; the other for fallen-away Catholics. Each CD featured a custom message from the pastor. On the back of each CD case was information about the parish, Mass times, and an invitation to a talk geared for skeptics, “When Science Tests Faith: Following the Trail of the Blood of Christ.”
“We had between 700 and 800 show up for the talk,” said Middendorf.
Through Lighthouse Catholic Media, Middendorf plans to make the program available to other interested parishes.
A similar effort took place in Colorado. Lyn Rooney helped create a pilot door-to-door effort at her parish, St. Francis of Assisi in Colorado Springs, Colo. The effort was the outgrowth of an apologetics group Rooney has been a part of for eight years.
“A Jehovah’s Witness had come to my door,” said Rooney. “We talked for about an hour, and I spoke about the Catholic faith. In the end the Jehovah’s Witness said, ‘If this is really the Church that Jesus founded, why aren’t you out doing what we’re doing?’ That was compelling.”
‘Any Baptized Catholics?’
In response, the group created the Welcome Home Evangelization Project, secured the support of the parish priest and parish council, and began going door-to-door in May 2011. The group adapted resources, guidelines and a script from the Diocese of Peoria, Ill., in coming up with a course of action. Approximately a dozen volunteers are involved in the work.
“This is a way to reach out to non-Catholics and inactive Catholics,” explained Rooney. “It’s an effort to help fulfill the bishop’s pastoral plan for evangelization.”
“We go out two-by-two on Sunday into neighborhoods within the parish boundaries,” explained Rooney. “We introduce ourselves and ask if there are any baptized Catholics in the household. If they say, ‘Yes,’ we delve a little deeper. We ask them if they would be willing to take a CD, and we share our experiences with them.”
The members carry CDs on a variety of Catholic topics, including “The Mass Explained,” “Confession” and “What to Do With Suffering?” The course of conversation determines which CD they get. They also invite people to attend Mass and pass out information pamphlets on the Church and the sacraments.
Rooney said that the work is simple, but the main challenge is convincing Catholics that they are capable of doing it and that it needs to be done.
Since the Colorado Springs group started, they’ve been to more than 400 homes. Rooney said that they’ve been able to build a rapport with those they meet.
“The personal invitation of someone touches people,” said Rooney. “They learn that people are praying for them.”
“When we go out we have no idea who we’re going to meet or who we’re going to touch,” said Cruze. “We likely won’t know all of the good we’ve done until we meet Jesus.”
“The renewal of Catholicism has begun,” said Edward Gallagher, who goes door-to-door as a member of the Legion of Mary in the Diocese of Providence, R.I. “We invite people back to the Church knowing that it could be 30 years before the seed that was sown begins to grow. It’s time for Catholics to take back their streets.”

Jehovah’s Witnesses proselytizing.
Straight up doctrinal facts on Jehovah Witness cult.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses teach preach that Jesus had his return aka second coming October 1914,then they spin all sorts of doctrinal embellishments on that date with 1918 being their appointment by Jesus as sole heirs of this 1914 Kingdom coming.
They have infighting, crime and child abuse as bad as any church out there.
Have a deadly dogma prohibiting whole blood transfusion but use cow’s blood calling it *Hemopure*.
They teach only 144,000 go to heaven,on and on and on with made up man made dogmas……JW are a spin-off of the second adventist and have this in common with the SDA.
Jehovah’s Witnesses promotion of their Watchtower sect has the net effect of stumbling and turning people off to the real Gospel.
Jesus said: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte; and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves” (Matt 23:15)

Great article Tim!
It amazes me why we don’t have an organized evangelization program for every parish. If you read Canon Law 771.2, it plainly states that pastors and bishops are to reach out to everyone that lives within their territories, no less than the faithful. This is a tall order, but this is what they are called to do. They are supposed to be fishers of men, not “aquarium watchers”, only taking care of those that come to church.
I have also been going door to door and urging others to do so also, but specifically, to invite people to the Feast of Divine Mercy/Divine Mercy Sunday. Our local parish made up 10,000 of these flyers to handout: http://divinemercysunday.com/pdf/Come_to_the_Feast_leaflet_common.pdf These and many other helps for correctly celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday can be found on our ministry’s website: http://www.DivineMercySunday.com .
Our church uses evangelism explosion curriculum to do just this
Isn’t this great? God works in amazing ways. I think it is wonderful to see Catholics take their faith to the public.
But aren’t the offering Bible studies & explaining scripture??
After 12 years spent being forced into door to door prosylytising as a “Mormon”, before finding the Catholic Church, there is no way I would ever be happy with the Catholic Church using this method to spread its message.
There is one thing that is guaranteed to put people off and that is being made to interupt their business to answer a religion peddlar at the door.
Let the Holy Spirit (or EWTN) do the job.
St. Daniel the Prophet Parish in Scottsdale, AZ has been doing this with the help of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate. Surprisingly, FOCUS has a hand in that, too - the Northern Arizona University Team has gone door-to-door with them once, and they hand out Curtis Martin’s book, Made for More, to those who want more information.
Fr. John Parks has started an evangelization group of young adults at his new parish assignment, as well. The New Evangelization is taking off in PHX!
Jehovah Witness I married into a family that used to be Catholic but the mother changed to Jehovah Witness and she is now trying to convince me a convert Catholic that Jesus is already too reigning. She reads her JW bible and Catholic bible. She doesnt know I dont think about the history this is where they need to be educated. They were founded by a man named Taize Russell who is a ex Catholic and founded the magazines Watchtower with another man. Its on wikipedia if you want to look it up. I am certain that contrary what they teach at the assemblies is not the truth and going door to door is just their way of getting under you soul to tell you lies and get you to come to their assembly. I will not enter the assembly until she learns to enter the other churches. She did not attend our wedding because it was Catholic ceremony. She thinks the church is not telling the truth but we are. It is the way, the life and the truth the one founded by Jesus Christ given the keys to Peter to never have it fall. I thank you for this program and hope to intiate it in my parish at St Patricks Church.
Thank you so much for your sharing of your awesome evanglization methods.
Getting people back to the church is not really the important part of Evangelization. Unless they have a personal relationship with Jesus then the church and Mass will be just the same.
First we must listen to why they left the faith - after all their excuses it is normally a loss of faith at the center.
Then we must guide them to have a conversion and a relationship with the Lord.
Although knocking on doors is honorable, I wonder if we should debase the original church of Jesus like a door to door salesman.
How many have returned and stayed is the question
To answer so many who have left and say it is because the Mass is boring Archbishop Gomez of Los Angeles got it right
“But the answer is not to change the Mass so that it’s more like a
Protestant service. The answer is for us to always celebrate the
Mass with greater intensity, reverence, beauty, and prayer.”
I hope all will continue evangelizing but remember it the relationship with Jesus that matters

Jesus is the reason of course for faith but the church is the main reason Jesus came to earth. To make us believe in him and his father God and the relationship comes with believing. If no faith in him then the yes to Jesus is no within the church. This is also a what faces a challange for believers and how often we attend church mass and reconcillation for if not Jesus still suffers today and we will too. It only takes a fire to get a fire going but how soon is that fire going and soon it is a blazing. So it is with going to door to door I see the church starting evanglizing and soon we will intently prayer more and attend more church masses and reconcillation. The 7 Our Fathers and 7 Hail Marys and 7 Glory Bes by Mej.com is a way of conversion prayer too we do not have to go straight to the doors of the people but to Jesus’s heart and say the prayers his Blessed Mother loves as Our Father loves.
So it is to me a convincing argument that you only need a relationship with Jesus but you also need the faith along with the Church to belong Body of Christ. I am placing my trust in Jesus today and forever.
Actually, Catholics used to do a LOT of door-to-door evangelization through the Legion of Mary. That was one of their main apostolates back in the day.

Amy, your sincerity is appreciated, but your knowledge of us Witnesses and our organization needs improving.
First, if Mr Drake is to be ‘thanked for his sharing of his awesome evanglization methods,’ then you should realize that he is comparing them favorably with ours! Your mother-in-law was reached just that way.
Second, I’m happy- and you should be too, that “She reads her JW bible and Catholic bible”. We know from personal experience that most Catholics don’t read any version of God’s Word. Yet Jesus said, “Now this is eternal life: That they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:3) All quotes are from the Catholic Douay Bible available on newadvent.org.
It’s the view of Benedict XVI that the Bible and the Church’s teachings are to be used together. We, of course, don’t take that view, but certainly most Catholics would benefit from spending at least as much time with their own Bibles as they do with their missals. As mentioned, I know from many doorstep conversations with Catholics that they do not.
Third, you could benefit from the old adage, ‘know your enemy’. Charles TAZE Russell was a member of a mainline PROTESTANT organization. He was dissatisfied with its teachings and went back to the Bible on his own. He found many contradictions between [any] Church’s teachings and scripture, and elected to stay with scripture: God’s word, not man’s traditions. At Mt 15:3 Jesus makes just this point with the mainstream religious leaders of his day: “But he answering, said to them: Why do you also transgress the commandment of God for your tradition?”
As to the date of the founding of Jehovah’s Witnesses, we look to the Bible for that, too:
“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth, who has loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood,” Rev 1:5
“from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who was slain between the altar and the temple.” Luke 11:51
“By faith Abel offered to God a sacrifice exceeding that of Cain, by which he obtained a testimony that he was just, God giving testimony to his gifts. And by it he being dead yet speaks.” Heb 11:4
So Jehovah’s human witnesses go back to the fourth human on earth; with Jesus, we go back to His beginning.
The next time we come to your door, I hope you’ll accept a copy of our book, “What Does the Bible Really Teach?” You’ll find hundreds of scriptural citations that explain our faith, using your own Catholic Bible. Also, I recommend that you and your mother-in-law talk about anything BUT religion; more peace in the family that way. :-)
Amy wrote: The church is the main reason Jesus came to earth Sorry but I would question that. Jesus certainly wanted his disciples to go out and spread his message but I doubt very much if he thought of an institution such as we have today. We do all need to spread his message of love of God and of every personm We need to come to experience our creator and recognise that God is in each of us and waiting for us to get to know him as Abba. The church should indeed have this as their main reason d’etre but the sexual scandals the coverups and an increasingly narrow emphasis on following rules wearing the right vestments and saying the right words seems to have meant the original message of Jesus gets lost in the fog.
Legion of Mary members are still doing door to door. Pastors who want to do this would be wise to start a Legion of Mary praesidium in their parish and members can be trained in the Legion approach.
Here’s an article about this in Anchorage
http://www.catholicanchor.org/wordpress/archives/3505
Mary’s Army the Legion of Mary is alive and well! The Legion serves as the Pastor’s right hand in Evangelizing the Parish, including going door to door! All catholics should check in to the organization.
Ive had the privilege of knocking on thousands of doors with the Legion of Mary. People should start a Legion group rather than re-invent the wheel by creating other competing apostolates.
This is absolutely amazing! God bless them for this. I believe it will bear much, MUCH fruit, by the grace of God. Will be suggesting this to my pastor!
ahar You would “question that the Church is the main reason Jesus came to Earth?” The answer is in our salvation: I always say, “I am saved, I am being saved and I hope to one day be saved by Jesus through the Catholic Church. What of those Sacraments? “Signs instituted by Christ to give GRACE?” These come through the One, True, Church that Jesus founded. * Door to door is very simple guys, if you have three hours twice a month or more, get out from behind your computer, grab a friend and go do it!*
The Legion of Mary has been doing this around the world for over 90 years.
Check them out on the web http://www.legionofmary.ie
There is no need to go door to door. If you are so inclined, you can go evangelize your brothers and sisters who go to your very own parish or better yet why not bring the Faith to those who go to your children’s Catholic schools!
Door knocking by Jehovah’s Witness persons does not impress me.
Each member at the end of the month has to hand in a ‘Field Service Report’(a report card). They have to record how many hours they were ‘out in service’ and other information.
If you don’t report the minimum 10 hours per month then the congregation will look at you as ‘spiritually weak’ and will start to treat you different.
They say they are out there because of love. The real reasons are hidden from the public.
Also this groups is not truthful. They tell prospective members they want to have a bible study but it turns out to be only studies of Watchtower material.
“This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.”—MATTHEW 24:14.
THAT verse, scholars agree, is highly important because it points to what Christians should be doing—a preaching work that would precede and herald the momentous and far-reaching event that Jesus called “the end.”
That prophetic verse is being fulfilled today. You are involved because the good news contains both an invitation and a warning. It offers you a choice: Accept God’s Kingdom or oppose it. The choice you make affects your very life.
Several days before Jesus was impaled, the disciples came to him and asked about the future. They were interested in the establishment of God’s Kingdom, of which Jesus had so often spoken. They also wanted to know about “the conclusion of the system of things,” or as some translations render that expression, “the end of the world.”—Matthew 24:3, American Standard Version; King James Version.
In reply, Jesus foretold that there would be large-scale wars, famines, pestilences, and great earthquakes. He also said that lawlessness would increase, false religious teachers would mislead many, and true Christians would be hated and persecuted. All of this was bad news.—Matthew 24:4-13; Luke 21:11.
But there was also good news. Jesus next spoke the words quoted above, words that have intrigued and inspired men for centuries. Though people agree about the importance of Jesus’ words, they disagree about the meaning. What exactly is this good news? What is the Kingdom? When is this prophecy to be fulfilled, and by whom? And what is “the end”? These are the things that are required from followers of Jesus to teach and preach. It takes more than just getting people to the church. You have to have truth and the holy spirit to back you up. It takes much more than what I see here as your ministry.
Well said Doug, any religion can try to do what Jehovah’s Witness do, but will never prevail, because they do not have Gods ( Jehovahs ) backing. Jesus said to preach about Gods kingdom to come ( the model prayer ) and Jehovah’s Witnesses do just that. We know that the main importance is not the salvation of man but the vindication of Gods soverienty and of his holy name! To preach about the kingdom one would have to know what it means. Jehovah will vindicate his name in one way or another even if it means having his name added back into the bible by a nonbeliever. For anyone to say negative words about what Jehovahs witness believe, they must first know what we believe and not take the word of a nonbeliever. There is only one true website to find answers. Other websites were added to the internet by disgruntled former witness or nonbelievers. Look up Jehovah’s Witness official page to find true answers.
I spent 40 years with the JWs before I was kicked out for questioning the doctine of the 144,000 and the idea that there was a “governing body” that had “international oversight of the first century congregation.” I took eight years, 3 months, and 21 days to go from a cult to the Church. I spent a great many hours going door to door and I must admit it is one of the worst methods of preaching avialable. Go to a website called “JW Facts” and look at the stats…you may reach the same conclusion by looking at the numbers as I reached through actual experience. True, door to door is one way to minister…however, not the best, and, certainly, not in the tradition of the Early Church.
Just a thought,
VW
By reading a lot of these Catholic’s comments it’s fair to say that the majority of them do NOT want to participate in the ministry as Jesus did. “Evangelizing to their own parishioners” would kind of be like “preaching to the choir” or shepherding the flock. But the door-to-door ministry is such a sure sign a person is a JW while doing it that most Catholics will never want to be a part of it. Sure, there are a couple of other groups that do it. (Mormons come to mind.)But they are NOT preaching & teaching about the good news of God’s kingdom. Most do not even know what it is. That is why the JW’s preaching work is so very important.
Since everything is voluntary with them it is a wonderful sight to see so many millions of them around the globe helping their neighbors understand the Bible & trying to live according to God’s principles. No one is perfect but they sure do try to stick to the scriptures.
The mistranslation of the YHWH from Lord name from the Bible read the information below from about the reason you have Jehovah as the name in the world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YHWH
Main article: Yahweh
It has most often been proposed that the name YHWH is a verb form derived from the Biblical Hebrew triconsonantal root ??? (h-y-y) “to be”, which has ??? (h-w-y) as a variant form, with a third person masculine y- prefix.[27] This would connect it to the passage in verse Exodus 3:14, where God gives his name as ??????? ?????? ??????? (Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh), translated most basically as “I am that I am” (or “I will be that which I now am”). ???? with the vocalization “Yahweh” could theoretically be a hif’il (causative) verb inflection of root HWH, with a meaning something like “he who causes to exist” or “who gives life” (the root idea of the word perhaps being “to breathe”, and hence, “to live”).[28] As a qal (basic stem) verb inflection, it could mean “he who is, who exists”.[27]
[edit] Pronunciation: the question of which vowels
The authentic, historically correct pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton is not known, and the consensus view at various points in history has not been consistent. The current scholarly consensus is that the vowel diacritic points attached to the written consonants YHWH in the Masoretic orthography of Biblical Hebrew were not intended to represent the vowels of such an authentic and historically correct pronunciation, but this was not always understood by Christian Hebrew scholars.
YHWH
The pronunciation as it is vowel pointed in the Masoretic Text, vast majority of scholars do not hold the pronunciation to be correct.

[edit] Theophoric names
Yeho or “Yeh?-” is the prefix form of “YHWH” used in Hebrew theophoric names; the suffix form Yah?” or “-Yeh?” is just as common. This has caused two opinions:
1.In former times (at least from c.1650 CE), the prefix pronunciation “Yeh?-” was sometimes connected with the full pronunciation “Yehova” derived from combining the Masoretic vowel points for “Adonai” with the consonantal Tetragrammaton YHWH.
2.Recently that, as “Yahweh” is likely an imperfective verb form, “Yahu” is its corresponding preterite or jussive short form: compare yi?tahaweh (imperfective), yi?táhû (preterit or jussive short form) = “do obeisance”.[29]
Those who argue for argument 1 above are the: George Wesley Buchanan in Biblical Archaeology Review; Smith’s 1863 A Dictionary of the Bible; Section # 2.1 The Analytical Hebrew & Chaldee Lexicon (1848)[30] in its article ???.
Smith’s 1863 A Dictionary of the Bible says that “Yahweh” is possible because shortening to “Yahw” would end up as “Yahu” or similar. The Jewish Encyclopedia of 1901–1906 in the Article:Names Of God has a very similar discussion, and also gives the form Yo (???) contracted from Yeho (?????). The Encyclopædia Britannica[31] also says that “Yeho-” or “Yo” can be explained from “Yahweh”, and that the suffix “-yah” can be explained from “Yahweh” better than from “Yehovah”.
Chapter 1 of The Tetragrammaton and the Christian Greek Scriptures, under the heading The Pronunciation Of God’s Name quotes from Insight on the Scriptures, Volume 2, page 7:
Hebrew Scholars generally favor “Yahweh” as the most likely pronunciation. They point out that the abbreviated form of the name is Yah (Jah in the Latinized form), as at Psalm 89:8 and in the expression Hallelu-Yah (meaning “Praise Yah!” imp. pl.).[Ps. 104:35] [150:1,6] The forms Yeho’, Yo, Yah, and Ya’hu, found in the Hebrew spelling of the names of Yehoshaphat, Yoshaphat, Shefatyah, and others, could be derived from Yahweh… Still, there is by no means unanimity among scholars on the subject, some favoring yet other pronunciations, such as “Yahuwa,” “Yahuah,” or “Yehuah.”
[edit] Using consonants as semi-vowels (v/w)
In ancient Hebrew, the letter ?, known to modern Hebrew speakers as vav, was a semivowel /w/ (as in English, not as in German) rather than a /v/.[32] The letter is referred to as waw in the academic world. Because the ancient pronunciation differs from the modern pronunciation, it is common today to represent ???? as YHWH rather than YHVH.
In unpointed Biblical Hebrew, most vowels are not written and the rest are written only ambiguously, as the vowel letters are also used as consonants (similar to the Latin use of V to indicate both U and V). See Matres lectionis for details. For similar reasons, an appearance of the Tetragrammaton in ancient Egyptian records of the 13th century BCE sheds no light on the original pronunciation.[33] Therefore it is, in general, difficult to deduce how a word is pronounced from its spelling only, and the Tetragrammaton is a particular example: two of its letters can serve as vowels, and two are vocalic place-holders, which are not pronounced.
This difficulty occurs somewhat also in Greek when transcribing Hebrew words, because of Greek’s lack of a letter for consonant ‘y’ and (since loss of the digamma) of a letter for “w”, forcing the Hebrew consonants yod and waw to be transcribed into Greek as vowels. Also, non-initial ‘h’ caused difficulty for Greeks and was liable to be omitted; ? (chi) was pronounced as ‘k’ + ‘h’ (as in modern Hindi “lakh”) and could not be used to spell ‘h’ as in Modern Greek ????? = “Harry”, for example.
[edit] Yahweh or Jahweh
The Latin pronunciation of the letter I/J as a consonant sound was [j], the ‘y’ sound of the English word ‘you’. This changed in descendent languages into various stronger consonants, including at one point in French [d?], the ‘j’ sound of the word ‘juice’, and this was the sound the letter came to be used for in English. Thus the English pronunciation of the older form Jehovah has this ‘j’ sound, following the English pronunciation of its Latin spelling. In order to preserve the Latin (and approximate Hebrew) pronunciation of Jahweh, however, the English spelling was changed to Yahweh.
Clearly folks there is a psy-ops plan by a few of the JWs out here on this comment board to discourage others from: taking God’s real message to the street, to invite folks to Holy Mass and to make connections with Catholics learning about spreading the Truth. You are fairly transparent. I encourage any Catholics reading this to take the proverbial grain of salt with the JW naysayers and the even the negative Catholic comments. “The Holy Spirit grants you just enough nurturing positive outcomes and good conversations with folks to keep you coming back to Door 2 Door.”
A Jehovah’s Witness always says, “No.” to us whenever we ask to pray The Our Father with them. My former next door neighbor, a JW at that time, would also not pray The Our Father with me. Clearly,in the JW mind, the model for prayer given by Jesus Christ, The Our Father, is not to be prayed by JWs with Catholics, Christians, etc. Yet, Christ prayed that we would all be one. JWs further do not believe their own next door neighbor should be proselytised! Clear across town, sure, talk to those folks, not the person you have to share a property line and a common wall! WHY? I talk to my Evangelical brother next door more about the Faith than we talk sports. We are Christian about it and we, for the most part, are amicable about our discussions. If the JW faith isn’t good enough for me as their neighbor, why is it good enough for someone in another subdivision?
Re Doug my sincerity was a pun I was trying to see if anyone would look it up. Taize is a Catholic Community and I know that the real reason you wont look it up is because you dont want to know that Protestants used to be Catholic usually. I have a father who was Catholic and married into a protestant church and thus I grew up Protestant.
Thanks for your input and dialogue it is helpful in the fight for souls shows people the truth of WHY we are where we are today looking for Jesus and love in all the wrong places and now the Holy Catholic Church today has few that go to mass and reconcilation and recieve all the sacraments.
This is prophecy in it fullest form.
Allow God to work and the Holy Spirit as it does and the Father will be that only one we need to seek.
JPRosen has some problems with Witness’ tactics from his [receiving] point of view.
The “psy-ops” comment is even humorous. The non-believing husband of a Witness friend told me that, when he was in USMC Intelligence, he was told that our organization was ‘an organization of interest’ to the US military. I wish we had the secular clout that Rosen and the Marines think we have- my life would be easier! (‘Join the JWs or have your brain fried!’ :-) )
You equate our ‘refusal to pray the Paternoster’ as a weakness or religious failure on our part. A simpler explanation is that (a) we are at your door ACTING on the prayer- living in Jehovah’s Kingdom by obeying our appointed King, Christ Jesus. (Mt 28:19,20) Furthermore, our prayers pay more than lip service to Our Lord’s command to ‘come TO the Father BY him’. (“Jesus said to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man comes TO the Father, but BY me.” John 14:6, Douay) The moment we begin a prayer with reference to Jehovah we get hostility from the householder. {See Amy’s “Jehovah” rant, above.) That’s counterproductive, so we simply refuse. “If it be possible, as much as is in you, have peace with all men.” Rom 12:18, ibid.
I can’t speak for your former neighbor, but I can suggest that he knew enough about you to see you had no interest in the Bible’s message of vindicating Jehovah’s rulership and sanctifying his name. IOW your post reveals perhaps more than you realize. :-)
I found your ‘neighbor’ comment interesting. (“I talk to my Evangelical brother next door more about the Faith”) Your Catholic history should have taught you that, back in the day, the two of you would have been on opposite sides of a pile of faggots. (Mary, the mother of Jesus, is or is not also the Mother of God. Being on the negative side of that would have cost you your life.) Both using the same NT; believing oppositely to the point of death; you say WE’RE bad? We don’t kill anyone.
We don’t “discourage others from: taking God’s real message to the street, to invite folks to Holy Mass and to make connections with Catholics learning about spreading the Truth.” We hope more would take God’s real message- found in His Word- to the people. “Then he says to his disciples, The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest.” Mt 9, ibid. Of course, we don’t believe that includes “Holy Mass”, but we don’t stop you from including it.
To JPRosen: JW’s do not have other religions represent them in prayer because they don’t pray to Jehovah, the God of the Bible, the God that JW’s worship. They certainly do appreciate the Lord’s Prayer/The Our Father Prayer but do not recite/repeat it as…just words as some faiths do.
As for witnessing to their own neighbors it happens all the time. Perhaps there’s another reason why you were not witnessed to. Why not ask if you’re truly interested? Wouldn’t hurt.
Danny Hazard is an apostate and as such is spreading lies, and some of which is half-truths are the same thing. It doesn’t surprise me that a Catholic site would allow such a negative comment about JW’s. Your words of which you speak Mr. Hazard are what you will reap. If this site is truly unbiased, you will allow my comment. As for child abuse, JW’s have very little compared to other Christian religions…...Mr. Hazard doesn’t seem angry about the fact that it is a problem in every religion, a bigger problem in many over JW’s. This is a fact. For lies, it is true, you’ll reap what you sow.
As to prayer, we mention the model prayer, or Our Father prayer all the time…..we don’t pray w/another not a Witness taking the lead for us, as we are not in unity in thought, so it would not be appropriate. Prayer is a privilege we hold in high regard, and we are careful that when ae say ’ amen’ or so be it, that we have agreed w/the one saying a prayer for the group. It has nothing to do w/our not holding the words of Jesus close to our heart, as we do. We feel Jesus gave us the model, as to show what was appropriate to pray for, with his Father’s name being held as holy, that we should pray for God’s kingdom to come and that his Father’s will to be done on earth…..as it is in Heaven, as being the most important as Jesus put those things first….so we should also. But Jesus said not to say the same words over and over again, like the scribes and Pharasees did, but to speak from the heart, using your own words. The prayer at Matt. 6:9,10 is a model for us to see what to pray for….not to say a set prayer, that does not come from one’s own heart. Jehovah’s Witnesses have been going door to door for over 130 years. We take that seriously also. Jesus also said others would speak abusively, and lyingly say things against those trying to do his will. We will continue until Jehovah says the work is done.
Jesus gave as a sign of the last days, something good that would be taking place, “and this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness, and then the end will come.” ( Matt 24:14) We are in all lands doing this work. A great witness is being given. Nothing will stop it, only when Jehovah says the work is done. 130 some years later is testament that Jehovah approves. As for God’s name, Jehovah has been used for centuries, being in the original King James Translation in early 1600’s. It is the accepted name of God in English. If that bothers some, then why do they use the English name, Jesus, which is Yeshuah in Hebrew and Iesous in Greek?? If is is acceptable to use English forms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus (with a J, just like Jehovah….not Y as in Hebrew Yeshuah, name of Jesus), then we can use God’s name Jehovah. God had his name in his Word and why? Jehovah wants us to know him…it is Satan that doesn’t. That is why there is a new King James Bible called the Divine King James Translation that restores the name, Jehovah back to all the original places where God’s name was removed…..nearly 7,000 times. What this always comes down to is ways to discredit Jehovah’s Witnesses, nothing more. Remember, we all are accountable to Jehovah our God, to whom we all have an accounting. Agape, Karen
This is an interesting article. It is nice that spirituality minded people are willing to put themselves out to tell others about God.

Sheesh, JW guys and gals! This is a Catholic site… why are you here? Why do you want in on what we’re doing? Talk about athiests going on and on about the Catholic Church, founded by Jesus Christ! Now you, too? What floors me in your rebuttal posts is that you toss around Jesus’ Name and YOU DON"T EVEN BELIEVE HE IS GOD. You are dwelling in the darkness of the Arian Heresy in your misinformed denial of His Divinity. Also, His Mother, too— you’re forbidden by someone in a building in Brooklyn from saying or believing that Mary is “Theotokos”, Mother of God. Our Church is nearly 2000 years old. Are Witnesses barely a tenth of that age? I commend those former Witnesses who have broken free from the shackles of codependency and made-up rules in the kingdom hall and found real freedom in the seven sacraments of Holy Mother Church! You JWs who continue to go door to door and drag the weaker Catholics out of the true Church, “woe to you should any little ones be harmed, ...it will be like a millstone around your neck.” Want more than a paragraph of reality? catholic.com No false agape, just a big Truth or two and some tough love.
Well the truth is truth and the Bible is the Bible compiled by many of Gods diciples and men of the gospel wrote translated it thousand of years ago. I suppose you never heard of Bible commentary written and compiled through the Catholic Church called St Jerome. He transcripted a lot of the texts to what we have today. Also if you read what the wikipedia said about the word Jehovah it said it used the vowels from Adonai which means Lord. So therefore Jesus is Lord and that is what scriptures says in
2 Thessalonians 3-12
Thanksgiving and Prayer
3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.
5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.
11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I am thankful for faithful brother and sisters even if they change to JW but God knows where the truth lives and his prescene in in our Churches where the Eucharist reigns and we have Body and Blood and Jesus always present after mass. We can pray and read scriptures after church and always have that relationship enlightened at our churches with the body of christ and know we have love even when we think we are not worthy. We thankfully recieve the lambs supper everyday if you are a religious vocation or lay person. We thankful offer our alms to God and know the Jesus hears our prayers and has the gifts for us to recieve if we are open. Jesus Kingdom is coming just like the bible says Come Lord Jesus Come! Rev 22:17
Please don’t post untruths about Jehovah’s witnesses, things of which you may have heard but have no first hand knowledge of. Jehovah’s Witnesses follow the instructions in the Bible and follow Jesus example. This produces a group of honest, loyal, trustworthy, and God fearing people. You would be privileged to have such a friend.
The Watchtower Tract Society maintains that everlasting punishment, (HELL) is a myth and a lie invented by Satan.( hell is found in the new testament dozens of times) 2 Jehovah’s Witnesses deny the immortality of the soul. 3 The “New World Translation” is used solely by the JW sect and was created by five men and only one had just two years of non-bibilical Greek and “taught himself” Hebrew. 4 THe JWs claimed that the Lord is present (His return) on the Earth [in 1914] 5 WHen He did not appear, they claimed “He is invisible…” 5 Due to conscience, the men of the JWs do not enter the Military. 6 Sadly, JWs do not salute the flag 7 In the year 1904 JWs were allowed to celebrate Christmas. Now, “Christmas and its music are… from Satan the devil.” [WT, 12-15-1983,7] Incongruency, flips and flops, falsehoods punctuate the history of the JWs. IF you, as a JW, believe these seven points as true, what have they done to you? Honestly, no Hell? No immortal soul? A translation of the bible out of thin air? Honesty—Dianna? When you visit people’s homes you generally do not lead with these teachings of your church, do you? SOURCE: CATHOLIC ANSWERS. http://www.catholic.com
I studied with the Jehovah Witnesses for a year before I returned to the Catholic Church. I did not feel worthy to return to the Church. I thought the door was closed. But the Holy Spirit used the J.W.‘s to introduce me to scripture (even though it was modified scripture) and I began to experience the call of God to return “HOME”.
It took another year before I actually returned to the Church. I think God will use anything to lead us back to the Church if we let him. I think we make a mistake by limiting God by discarding “this & that” means to evangelize. And I am reminded that when the people had faith in Christ and their prayer, Jesus said—“Your faith has saved you”. Let us believe in what we are doing in the name of Jesus. Amen?

Mat 13:24 Another illustration he set before them, saying: “The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man that sowed fine seed in his field. 25 While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat, and left. 26 When the blade sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds appeared also. 27 So the slaves of the householder came up and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow fine seed in your field? How, then, does it come to have weeds?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy, a man, did this.’ They said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go out and collect them?’ 29 He said, ‘No; that by no chance, while collecting the weeds, YOU uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest; and in the harvest season I will tell the reapers, First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up, then go to gathering the wheat into my storehouse.’”
? In Jesus’ parable of the wheat among the weeds, do the “weeds” include those who recently have become apostates?
No, for strictly speaking they are not “weeds.”
This illustration and Jesus’ explanation of it are found at Matthew 13:24-30, 37-43. In the “field,” which is the world, the “Son of man” sowed “fine seed,” representing “the sons of the kingdom,” genuine anointed Christians. Then the Devil sowed “weeds” that might appear to be “wheat,” but are actually “the sons of the wicked one,” evidently imitation Christians that exist at the same time as the wheatlike true Christians. This developed particularly after the apostles died. (2 Thessalonians 2:6, 7) Through the centuries there have been many who merely claimed to be Christians, including the clergy who have spread false teachings.
Jesus said that during the harvest period, the “conclusion of a system of things,” the “weeds” would be collected out and “burned with fire.” Some might view the small number of persons who recently turned apostate as “weeds” being collected out. But Jesus did not say that the “weeds” had once been “wheat” and then turned bad. They were sown as “weeds” and remained such, consistent with the genetic rule that vegetation reproduces “according to its kind.” (Genesis 1:11, 12) We need to bear in mind, though, that in speaking of the “weeds” Jesus was foretelling a particular sort of false, or imitation, Christians who would appear. He was not discussing individuals of the “wheat” class who might go bad, becoming like rotten wheat stalks.
Apostates of the apostles’ day and their modern counterparts are not represented by the “weeds.” Yet the Bible shows that such apostates are “not of our sort,” have God’s disapproval and should be shunned by loyal Christians. Any who apostatize and do not repent by the end of this system of things will experience the same fate as the “weeds,” being “burned with fire” or destroyed completely.—Titus 3:10; 1 John 2:18, 19; 2 John 9-11.
Faithful Job, in effect, stated that if his life course had not been one of integrity, then, instead of barley, let stinking weeds grow.—Job 31:40.
At Proverbs 24:31, the plural form of the Hebrew term qim·mohs?, which is commonly rendered “nettle,” appears to denote weeds of all kinds.—See NETTLE.
The weeds (Gr., zi·za?ni·a) of Jesus’ illustration at Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 are generally considered to be bearded darnel (Lolium temulentum), which very much resembles wheat until maturity, when it can be readily distinguished from wheat by its smaller black seeds. This, together with the fact that the roots of these weeds become entwined with the wheat, would make it most inadvisable to pull up the weeds at an early stage. If darnel seeds become mixed with wheat kernels after the harvest, this can have a serious effect upon the eater. Dizziness and even fatal poisoning have been attributed to eating bread containing too much darnel flour. The poisonous properties of darnel seeds are generally believed to stem from a fungus growing within them.
When Jesus set down on his throne at the beginning of the end of time he began to separate the wheat out of the weeds. These ones began to tell the the Good News the same as Jesus did on earth. Jesus told his diciples that this Good News would be preached in the entire world and then the end would come. None otgher than the people who carry his name are doing this work. All have come out of other religions, being taken out by Holy Spirit to do the will of God. God’s Holy Spirit was poured out upon them to accomplish his work. Without it it is impossible to do the door to door work that Jesus did and ask his people to do.
So it appears that only when a person becomes a servant of Jehovah is his name written in “the book of life,” and only if he continues faithful is his name retained in that book.—Re 3:5; 17:8; compare Ex 32:32, 33; Lu 10:20; Php 4:3
. Similarly, the names of persons worshiping the symbolic wild beast have not been recorded in the Lamb’s scroll. (Re 13:8) That wild beast received its authority, power, and throne from the dragon, Satan the Devil. Those who worship the wild beast are therefore a part of the ‘serpent’s seed.’ (Re 13:2; compare Joh 8:44; Re 12:9.) Even before children were born to Adam and Eve, Jehovah God indicated that there would be enmity between the ‘seed of the woman’ and the ‘seed of the serpent.’ (Ge 3:15) Thus from the founding of the world it had already been determined that no worshiper of the wild beast would have his name written in the Lamb’s scroll. Only persons sacred from God’s standpoint were to be so privileged.—Re 21:27.
In view of the fact that this scroll belongs to the Lamb, logically the names appearing on it would be those of persons given to him by God. (Re 13:8; Joh 17:9, 24) It is therefore noteworthy that the next reference to the Lamb in the book of Revelation depicts him as standing on Mount Zion with 144,000 persons bought from among mankind.—Re 14:1-5.

#1: “(HELL) is a myth and a lie invented by Satan”
True. The word is a mistranslation of several Hebrew and Greek words, sheol, gehenna, hades. It’s an English word from North European languages of only about 1000 years ago; it could not have been used by any of the writers of the original texts. The NWT translates the original words individually, consistently, and honestly. The very idea of a Catholic or Baptist Hell dishonors Jehovah, who “is love”. “Your word is truth.”
#2: “Jehovah’s Witnesses deny the immortality of the soul”
True. Gen 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the slime of the earth: and breathed into his face the breath of life, and man BECAME a living soul.”
Joshua 10:32,35 “And the Lord delivered Lachis into the hands of Israel, and he took it the following day, and put it to the sword, and every soul that was in it, as he had done to Lebna ... and took it the same day: and put to the sword all the souls that were in it, according to all that he had done to Lachis.”
Ezek 18:20 “The soul that sins, the same shall die:”
So man IS a soul, he does not HAVE a soul. The phrase “immortal soul” does not occur in the Bible. The IDEA of such does occur, here: “And the serpent said to the woman: No, you shall not die the death. For God knows that in what day soever you shall eat thereof, your eyes shall be opened: and you shall be as Gods, knowing good and evil.”
Eve believed the lie, as do most nominally Christian churches. “Your word is truth.”
#3: “The “New World Translation” etc. etc. etc.
It’s the best translation I’ve seen, in over 60 years of reading. When people read Gen 2:7, as above, and then use the phrase “immortal soul” as a religious teaching they prove themselves unqualified as Bible teachers. “Your word is truth.”
#4: “THe JWs claimed that the Lord is present (His return) on the Earth [in 1914]”
True; we still so claim ...
“they claimed “[his return was] invisible…”
... true. Our Lord said it would be so. Acts 1: “And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up: and a cloud received him OUT OF THEIR SIGHT. And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments. Who also said: You men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, SHALL SO COME AS YOU HAVE SEEN HIM GOING INTO HEAVEN.”
There is a spiritual vision as well as physical vision. We saw his invisible appearance by reading the ‘signs of the times’ in Mt 24 and 25, 2 Tim 3, etc. “Your word is truth.”
“Due to conscience, the men [and women] of the JWs do not enter the Military.”
True. Therefore we don’t kill Catholics in wartime; Catholics and other “Christians” kill each other [and us]. They also supply chaplains to the military to ‘keep up morale’ during the internecine killing. “Your word is truth.”
“JWs do not salute the flag”
True. We don’t salute ANY country’s flag, nor pledge allegiance to ANY country’s constitution, nor enter ANY country’s military. BTW that’s thew law in the US because of several cases we fought. So your kids don’t have to do these things either- if their “conscience” so moves them. On principle we behave as good citizens, by the standard set forth by the Catholics’ “first Pope”: “But Peter and John answering, said to them: If it be just, in the sight of God, to hear you rather than God, judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard ... But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God rather than men.”
“Your word is truth.”
“In the year 1904 JWs were allowed to celebrate Christmas”
[You forgot birthdays.] Probably true as to “1904”. I don’t recall the exact period involved; it was for longer than just one year. When we come to a better understanding of God’s word, we change our mode of life. Do you? “Your word is truth.” Any encyclopedia will give you what amounts to the JW teaching on Christmas and its associated practices: wrong time, wrong practices, etc. “Your word is truth.”
R. Chandler thank you for the treatise on baking bread. You are on the wrong side of the story, though. It is the Catholics who attend the Lamb’s Supper, Communion with the Eucharist or the Gift of Finest Wheat reciving the BODY, BLOOD, SOUL & DIVINITY of JESUS CHRIST.
Apparently, you did not “follow Jesus” when He fed the 5,000 or spoke in John 6, The Bread of Life discourse OR when He raised the bread and wine at the Last Supper and stated, “This is My Body,” “This is My Blood.”
Your booklet, “What does the Bible Really Say?” is riddled with falsehoods and untruths. It is hard to reconcile your doctrines with your post: 1 you do not personally have the “Heavenly Hope” as the 144K have been long picked in advance of you being born. 2 you do not believe Jesus is God 3 you say you follow Him and do not believe in His bodily resurrection 4 How can you take up the cross of Christ if Satan has convinced you to think he was tied to a torture stake? Do you not see that the truth and the doctrines of your religion have very little in common? IF it was, according to your own teaching in the WT in 1983, that Christmas is not to be celebrated…that Christmas is of Satan… was’nt it the same Satan that put the stinky weeds in with the wheat? Wouldn’t Satan want to make you think that Jesus is not God? I know you are being deceived. One of us is in the Church that was founded by Christ. One of us is in a knock off and that knock off is attempting to take the kingdom out of the true Church.
I think that all of you who are intent on telling untruths about Jehovah’s Witnesses should look at some facts first. Jesus plainly said that “And this good news of the Kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth, for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” The fact is, is that Jehovah’s Witnesses are fulfilling that prophecy, in “all the nations”. Over 250,000 people are being baptized each year as Jehovah’s Witnesses because of this tremendous task that could never be done in harmony, without Jehovah God’s direction and approval. Jesus said that you would recognize his true followers by their fruits, which include their works. You certainly cant recognize another religion doing all of this. And don’t forget that the main point of their witnessing is to preach the good news of God’s Kingdom. The first thing that Jesus said to the world after he was tempted, was to “repent you people, for the Kingdom is coming.”. He said that that is why he was sent here. So what he was saying and that Jehovah’s Witnesses are saying, is that God’s rulership is coming back to this earth, ..something that was lost in the garden of Eden because of His authority being questioned. And after letting mankind see through every form of government that they simply cannot take care of themselves and solve the problems that mankind face, century after century. That is what we as mankind should be doing, is getting ourselves ready for that Kingdom, by living as close to God’s commandments as we possibly can. I say all of this out of concern for my fellow man. God’s Kingdom will be here very soon now, and we need to be ready for it, by cleaning up everything we can about ourselves, and sincerely looking to our heavenly Father for approval. Jesus said that “many” would say to him in the last days, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we do great works in your name Lord , expelling demons and many great miracles Lord?”,..and he said that they were never a part of him, but that only those doing the will of his Father would be in the Kingdom. His Father is Jehovah God Almighty. And those “many” are self-proclaimed Christians in the world today. The prophecy at Joel 2:32 says: “It must occur that everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will get away safe.” And It is after foretelling the paradisaic condition of God’s people that Joel prophesies about the pouring out of Jehovah’s spirit. When Peter quoted this prophecy at Pentecost, he said that it was fulfilled “in the last days.” (Acts 2:17) Peter said the very same thing as Joel did under the power of the Holy spirit, that all those calling on the name Jehovah will be saved. Jehovah’s Witnesses are truly grateful to know Jehovah’s name, and they have complete trust that he will save them when they call on him. Our salvation depends on calling on the name of Jehovah in faith. Repentance is required beforehand if a person is to be saved during the fear-inspiring day of Jehovah. The nearness of that day should move us to engage in holy acts and godly deeds. Of course, our salvation depends on acknowledging that Jehovah alone is God. And if we call on his name in faith, he will save us when he executes judgment upon the nations. I sincerely hope that you people here will do just that. :-)

>>> Over 250,000 people are being baptized each year as Jehovah’s Witnesses because of this ... <<< So what? If 250,000 told you to jump off a bridge, would you? There is a Catholic Diocese responsible for every square inch of land on the planet. Our Church receives and baptises its fair share of converts. Look at the culture we live in here in the US. There are people who are messed up, lonely and have lost their way. Along comes the JWs trained to harvest by an organization started by a mere man 130 years ago only with a faulty translation of scripture. You provide community, “answers” and “support.” The paradigm you are in is that you think you are the heroes of God. I know you JWs are thinking that Jesus is not God either, that He was a mere man. But can you really drag down Jesus Christ, to the same level as your founder? Or to the level of a King David? The Church that Jesus founded is the Catholic Church. By birth, I have become a part of it. The Church is a billion strong and it would be here today without me. I am blessed and fortunate to be in this Church. We try to help others see what our Church is and what the Triune God, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit can do in their lives. Lastly, the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force as the JWs believe and put forth incorrectly. Can you see what they do? There is the truth, ie the Trinity, and they chip away by claiming Jesus is not really God and that the Holy Spirit is not a Person of the Trinity. The watchword is ERROR! THe Jehovah Witnesses spread error. Regardless of the fact that the word Trinity is not in the bible, it is a reality. http://www.catholic.com
Why trying to invent a wheel that already is invented and works fine? Jehovah’s Witnesses are known worldwide because of their door to door approach and their biblical message of the Good News.
Catholics with their 1.2 billion members cannot compete in 1.2 billion years with that 8 million Jehovah’s Witness preachers. Just accept that cause its a fact.
Dan Hazard is just an apostate who spends every waking hour trying to discredit Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Its only Jehovah’s Witnesses who have the worldwide love that Jesus said would identify his followers at John 13:38.
They are the only group….the ONLY religious group who will NOT go off to war and fight and kill their fellowman.
End of story!
That says it all.
They are the ONLY ones who have the identifying mark.
So Danny Hazard can just shut his big pie hole up.
He can twist stuff and misrepresent Jehovah’s Witnesses all he want to, but he can never deny that they are the ONLY TRUE Christians!
Intersting….the commentators are all saying the same things JW’s have said and done for 100 years about spreading the Good News. The Catholic Church after 2000 years has returned to the basic way of spreading the Word that Jesus taught and commanded his diciples to do.
And yet the Church has a long record of condemning these same JW’s for “selling religion”. Makes one wonder what else the JW’s have right!
One also wonders what can be learned if you just spent the time talking and researching for yourself instead of googling the internet and geting 90% inuendo and slander!
Raymond, you are incorrect. After Russell, the founder, died in 1916,his successor, “Judge” Joseph Rutherford equipped Witnesses with portable phonographs with pamphlets and they gave info to homeowners that way. In his radio shows, Rutherford, (who was an attorney , who claimed to be a judge because he substituted at least once for an absent judge) and pamphlet messages Witnesses were very anti-Catholic. Witnesses also use faulty sources: They quote Hans Kung as a “Catholic theologian” even though the Vatican had removed his license to teach theology in 1980. Yet, because his heretical views suit them, the Jehovah’s Witnesses continue to quote him unethically. They also quote anti-Catholic Edward Gibbon as though he were an objective historian. He is their go to guy to do a hatchet job on the Trinity. SOURCES: BEGINNING APOLOGETICS 2.5 by Father Frank Chacon and Jim Burnham, CATHOLIC ANSWERS: History of the Jehovahs Witnesses
Several of my friends have reported this same phenomena: On the same day each of us had a visit by car by two Jehovahs Witnesses. They were there at our doors to invite us to their weekend conference. While I do not think that there is anything wrong with using an automobile, the conclusion I draw from the experience is that they previously knew our addresses. Otherwise, they would have just walked. Each of my friends in this example are Catholics. Why did they want to have us Catholics go to this special event for hours on end, over two days in an environment they provide, and an agenda of their choosing? CONTROL & Indoctrination. New topic… Do you want to learn the code for home visits? Do NOT invite two JWs into your home for a sitdown discussion or you have guaranteed a repeat visit in the next few weeks. If you are OK with this, do as you wish. They will break off contact if they sense you are strong in the Catholic faith or if they cannot persuade you to attend a [Watchtower Tract: AWAKE!] so-called “bible study.” If you want to discuss the Faith with them and do not want any recurring contact, simply bring your Cathoilc tracts, Bible and self out onto the front steps and keep the door shut behind you. Perhaps you can be the patient Saint that is the gamechanger for them and frees them from their paradigm of bondage to him whom they serve.
Am I authentic? Am I genuine? Am I being honest with myself? Why am I a Jehovah’s Witness? If I rationally consider what the options are and ask the right questions interiorly will I come to know the truth? Do I dare ask them aloud? Of whom do I ask? You don’t know that which you don’t know. One man’s experience found here: http://whyimcatholic.com/index.php/conversion-stories/jehovah-witness-converts/item/125-jehovahs-witness-convert-lou-everett
I am sorry if I offended anyone. It is religion, my beliefs and yours. All of us JWs will help you if you need us. Thanks for all the comments! MrsC
Jesus is right. A good tree cannot produce rotten fruit, and a rotten tree cannot produce good fruit. There is only one truth. JEHOVAH took 1600 years and used 40 different faithful prophets to record HIS one and only truth. It is seamless and perfect. We, as humans, have this truth, The Holy Bible, to shape our thinking, motivate our heart, and guide our step. The BIBLE teaches us about JEHOVAH, HIS Son Jesus, and GODS Holy Spirit. Jesus testified that his Fathers word is the truth. Jesus said the truth would set us free.
If you sincerely want to be free of teachings that conflict with GODS Word, open your BIBLE and begin to study. Pray to JEHOVAH for his spirit of understanding and work in harmony with your prayers. Pray in Jesus’ name. Reject anything that cannot be shown to be from, and in harmony with, the BIBLE. JEHOVAH will send teachers, they will be HIS Witnesses. You can tell right away; they teach from HIS word. Your questions will be answered directly from the BIBLE. That’s good fruit.
W.R.B your comment that “Jesus is right” is very interesting. Who could possibly argue with that? Its very telling how you folks use words. Unfortunately, he is wrong. WHAT you say? In case you didn’t notice, I didn’t capitalize the personal pronoun “he” in the last sentence. WHY? Because whom you think of as Jesus is wrong. Therefore your “truth” is also error filled. You do not believe as a JW that Jesus Christ is God. I’ve made many claims and statements in these posts without resorting to scripture and now for your benefit, I must. In your version of scripture, The New World Translation, which no other sect or Protestant church chooses to utilize, In JN 1 your words of scripture fail to acknowledge Jesus is God. In a real bible, like KJV, NIV or RSV in JN 1, which parallels Genesis beautifully because it has God the Father “in the beginning…” and then in the New Testament, “the Word was God.” Dozens of scripture versions and hundreds of Bible scholars confirm this translation. But YOU are right? Jehovah has revealed this to your sect? Horse hockey! You are also under the impression that the bible alone is the way to go. It appears you believe that the Catholic tradition is somehow “teachings that conflict with God’s Word.” Well let me tell you, in the translation from the Latin vulgate, an old and accurate rendition of scripture, the Douay Rheims, 2 Thess 2:14 (15 in newer bibles)this is what Paul says: “Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle.” Paul speaks of oral tradition here in the bible. Both oral and written are to be retained. Furthermore, in DR 2 Peter 1:20 it says in the bible, “Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation.” The Catholic Church in conjunction with the PERSON of the Holy Spirit is how the canon of scripture came about in A.D. 393 & 397 at the council of Hippo. Whom is your authority??? Someone in a building in Brooklyn, NY. You, W.R.B. and no other JW would have a “version” of a bible were it not for the Catholic Church. So how do you repay God the Father for His infallible Word? You take the 1.2 billion people that he has spent accumulating and teaching for two millenia and you take your 8 million JW ravening wolves to go door to door to cull God’s herd. Just because someone does not read the bible as much as they should or is susceptible to a persuasive line of argument or needs companionship, do they really deserve you JWs and a potential loss of salvation for being away from the true Church? Let’s go back to fruit, shall we? The JWs are under the impression that the Lord has returned in secret in 1914 and that he is on the earth invisibly and he will soon tire of the people of the world’s wickedness and will turn the earth into a Paradise for the few whom have been good. 7 billion people on earth, 8 million good. So, due to the false belief that the world will be Utopia in short order, why would JWs lift a finger or spend a dime to help anyone NOW? Let’s call that bad fruit. Now, in contrast, looking at the Catholic Church, she provides more social services more inexpensively than ANY other organization in the US or World. She also has a network of over 600 hospitals in the US alone? If the Catholic schools closed tomorrow, the U.S. government would have to pay tens of BILLIONS of dollars to educate and (indoctrinate) the young minds of America. So you see W.R.B. since your world view is that your version of scripture, (which in an above post I explained it away as made up, tinkered with and inconsequential,) is “seamless and perfect” and you produce the “good fruit”—I must say—you are mistaken. May I recommend a book to those reading this post, it is penned by Matthew Kelly and its entitled Rediscover Catholicism. He also has the Dynamic Catholic show on http://www.relevantradio.com
For the Catholics that believe that Jesus was God himself, please read this. The head of the Christ is God.—1 Cor. 11:3. Jesus humbled himself and became obedient [to God] as far as death.” (Phil. 2:5-8) At all times, Jesus humbly submitted to his Father’s will. He said: “I seek, not my own will, but the will of him that sent me.” (John 5:30) “I always do the things pleasing to [my Father],” he declared. (John 8:29) Toward the end of his life on earth, Jesus said in prayer to his Father: “I have glorified you on the earth, having finished the work you have given me to do.” (John 17:4) Evidently, Jesus had no problem with recognizing and accepting God’s headship over him. So why do self-proclaiming Trinitarians say that Jesus is God? And why do they say that Peter built the church in Rome, when the Bible plainly says that Peter never went to Rome? Priests refer any inquirer to Jesus’ words at Matthew 16:18, 19 in the Catholic Douay Bible: “I say to thee: That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church. And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” Does this mean, as the Roman Catholic Church claims, that Jesus appointed Peter the head of his church and the first pope? Jesus never said : “You, Peter, will build my church.” Rather, Jesus said: “I will build my church.” Did Peter really think he was the rock-mass foundation? On the contrary! He understood that foundation to be Christ himself: “Then Peter, filled with holy spirit, said to them: ‘ . . . in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you impaled but whom God raised up from the dead, by this one does this man stand here sound in front of you. This is “the stone which was treated by you builders as of no account that has become chief cornerstone”.’”—1 Thess. 5:21; Acts 4:8-12. If Peter was the rock on which the church was built, he certainly would have known it; and if he knew it he would have made that powerfully clear in his own epistles. But even in his own writings Peter never calls himself pope or speaks of himself as the head of the church. Rather, he identifies Christ as the rock-mass foundation: “Coming to him as to a living stone, rejected, it is true, by men, but chosen, precious, with God, you yourselves also as living stones are being built up a spiritual house for the purpose of a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. . . . It is to you, therefore, that he is precious, because you are believers; but to those not believing, ‘the identical stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,’ and ‘a stone of stumbling and a rock-mass of offense’.”—1 Pet. 2:4-8,. “The wall of the city also had twelve foundation stones, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.” But no Bible writer names Peter as the head of the church. Declared the apostle Paul concerning Christ: “He is the head of the body, the congregation.” And again: “You have been built up upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, while Christ Jesus himself is the foundation cornerstone.”—Rev. 21:14; Col. 1:18; Eph. 2:20,. So when Jesus spoke those words at Matthew 16:18, he meant that he himself, the one who had just been identified by Peter as the Messiah, was the rockmass foundation on which the Christian congregation would be built. When did the doctrine that Peter is the head of the church and that he supposedly has successors begin? It was established in the Roman Catholic Church in the Nicene Creed, A.D. 325 and 381. But the pure, uncorrupted Christians living in the days of the apostles never knew such a doctrine. Indeed, up till the fourth century professed Christians did not hold to such a teaching. When the Austrian Roman Catholic bishop Joseph Strossmayer made his speech before the college of cardinals in 1870, the time when the dogma of the infallibility of the pope was discussed, he made that point clear: “Of all the doctors of Christian antiquity St. Augustine occupies one of the first places for knowledge and holiness. Listen then to what he writes on his second treatise on the first epistle to St. John: ‘What do the words mean, I will build my church on this rock? On this faith, on that which said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ In his treatise on St. John we find this most significant phrase—‘On this rock which thou hast confessed I will build my church, since Christ was the rock.’ The great bishop believed so little that the church was built on St. Peter that he said to the people in his thirteenth sermon, ‘Thou art Peter, and on this rock (petra) which thou hast confessed, on this rock which thou hast known, saying, Thou art Christ the Son of the living God, I will build my church—upon Myself, who am the son of the living God: I will build it on Me, and not Me on thee.’ That which St. Augustine thought upon this celebrated passage was the opinion of all Christendom in his time [about 400 A.D.].” If Peter had been the first pope, would he not have known it? Yet never once did he call himself “Supreme Pontiff” or pope. Nowhere in his writings did he claim supremacy, infallibility or the right to have a successor. On subjects so important as this it is unthinkable that Peter would remain silent. If Peter was the vicar of Jesus Christ, how is it that he never acted like a pope? Peter never established himself in a sumptuous residence. He never hired a small army of soldiers to guard him. He never dressed in clothes drastically different from his brothers. He never had himself carried about by his brothers on a papal chair similar to one used by Egyptian kings. Why did he never act like a pope? Because he obeyed Jesus’ command: “Do not call anyone your father on earth, for One is your Father, the heavenly One. Neither be called ‘leaders’, for your Leader is one, the Christ.”—Matt. 23:9, 10. Peter had ample opportunity to act as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church does, but he never did. When Peter used the second key and brought Jehovah’s way of salvation to Cornelius, the Bible account says: “As Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet and did obeisance to him. But Peter lifted him up, saying: ‘Rise; I myself am also a man.’” (Acts 10:25, 26,) Did Peter extend a ring to the prostrate Cornelius? No, Peter lifted Cornelius up, saying: “Rise; I myself am also a man.” Who ever heard of a pope lifting up a man prostrate before him, admitting his own comparative unimportance and equality with other men? If Peter was the first pope, how is it that Jesus did not choose one that could set the proper example for future popes? For popes are not allowed to experience the marital state; yet Peter was married. Both Mark and Luke spoke of “Simon’s mother-in-law.” And the apostle Paul wrote: “We have authority to lead about a sister as a wife, even as the rest of the apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas [Peter], do we not?” But popes do not have this authority.—Mark 1:30; Luke 4:38; 1 Cor. 9:5,. If Peter was an infallible pope, how is it that he showed up so many times to be in error? Just a few moments after Christ spoke the words of Matthew 16:18, Peter appeared far from infallible; and Jesus had to rebuke him, saying: “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumblingblock to me.” Would Christ address the infallible head of his church with terms such as “Satan” and “stumblingblock”? Time and again Peter showed he was not infallible. Once he lost faith while walking on water, and sank. Once he used his sword when he should not have. He even denied knowing Jesus. And after Christ’s death he still did not understand that Christ must be raised from the dead. Later Peter slipped into a wrong practice and had to be corrected by the apostle Paul.—Matt. 16:22, 23; 14:29-31; Luke 22:31-34; John 18:10, 11; Gal. 2:11. The pope is called “Successor to St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles.” But the Bible does not give the slightest trace that he was “prince of the apostles.” On the contrary, it gives abundant evidence that he was just one of the apostles and not the chief one. At Galatians 2:9 Paul writes of “James and Cephas [Peter] and John, the ones who seemed to be pillars.” Yet he puts James first. Would Paul have slighted the “prince of the apostles” by putting his name second in his list, if Peter was really chief of apostles? At a meeting in Jerusalem Peter made a speech but it was James who presided and made the decisions. If Peter was chief apostle it is unthinkable that he would have allowed James to preside over a most important meeting.—Acts 15:13-19. Finally, the last living apostle was John, not Peter. This would not be the logical arrangement if Peter was a pope. And here is something thought-arousing: The Catholic Encyclopedia lists four popes as succeeding Peter, St. Linus, St. Anacletus I, St. Clement I and St. Evaristus, the last of whom reigned about A.D. 99. Now the apostle John lived until about A.D. 100 or later. Yet John, in his writings, never once mentioned the name of any of these popes or even the fact that any pope existed. Why the silence on such extremely vital matters? Stranger yet is the fact that four popes supposedly succeeded Peter during the life span of the apostle John. Yet, if there was to be a successor, John, the beloved disciple of Jesus and apostle of the Lamb and one of the twelve foundation stones, would be the most logical choice. What conclusion must we come to, then? That Peter never had a successor. That Peter was merely one of the apostles, one of the twelve foundation stones and not the chief cornerstone or rock mass upon which the congregation is built. That Peter used the keys of the kingdom and that the keys cannot be used again or passed on to another. That Peter was not “prince of the apostles.” That Peter never acted like a pope. That the rock on which Christ builds his congregation is Christ himself. Thus in the error-destroying light of God’s Word lies exposed one of the most colossal hoaxes of all time. Peter was not the first pope. In the meantime, where was Peter doing his missionary work? Well, he was working as he had been assigned, in his apostleship to those who are circumcised. (Gal. 2:8) Therefore, he was concentrating his efforts on the Diaspora, the dispersion. While Paul went to the West, to Europe, James and Cephas and John, in harmony with the agreement mentioned at Galatians 2:9, served in the Eastern world. Peter introduces his first letter: “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the temporary residents scattered about in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.” (1 Pet. 1:1) Not one of these places is in Europe, where we know Rome to be. Not only does Peter not mention Rome in his letter, but he distinctly indicates that it was written from Babylon, at 1 Peter 5:13: “The church that is in Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth my son, Mark.” (Douay Version) In 2 Peter 1:14, he says, “I must shortly put off this tabernacle,” implying his martyrdom was near, yet he makes no allusion to Rome, or any intention of his visiting it. Had Jesus meant for Peter to act as his vicar and exercise headship over the other apostles this fact certainly would be apparent in the book of Acts. But nowhere is Peter shown as ruling over the rest. Nor do the Scriptures and the facts of history prove that Peter went to Rome, served there as bishop and died there. Paul wrote several of his letters from Rome during the time that Peter was supposed to have been there. Yet in not one of these does he make any reference to Peter’s being in Rome. At 2 Timothy 4:11 Paul complains that only Luke continued with him. And in the letter Paul wrote to the Christian congregation at Rome he sends greetings to twenty-six, and, in all, makes mention of thirty-five Christians, but does not mention Peter. Could Paul have thus ignored Peter if Peter had been in Rome, and pope at that? Unthinkable! The noted sixteenth-century chronologist, Scaliger, regarding whom The Encyclopædia Britannica states ‘he was the greatest scholar of his day and he hated above all else dishonesty of argument and quotation,’ says that Peter’s being in Rome must be classed with the ridiculous legends. Truly the Scriptures, the facts of history and sound reasoning combine to prove that Peter was not the first “bishop” of Rome, that neither he nor any of the other apostles had successors, and that there has not been a continuous line of such from Peter’s day down to ours. Hence the answer to the question, “Do the apostles have successors?” must be an emphatic and unequivocal No!
It is of interest to note also, that the New King James Revised Version has put God’s Holy name Jehovah, back in all the places that they removed in the first version in 1611, except in 3 places in 1611, and admitted to doing so. One that they left it in the 1611 original version was Ps. 83:18. They admitted back then that they had removed the Holy name and replaced it with capitals “LORD” and 7000 times. Even in the ten commandments, where it says “You must Love the LORD thy God with all your heart soul, mind and strength”., it was supposed to say, “You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart…”,..and now, the New King James Revised Version is replacing it where God had it originally written down for us to know him personally. It reminds me of the prayer that Jesus said to his Father Jehovah, saying “‘Father, let your name be known’; therefore a voice from heaven said, ” I both made it known, and will again make it known”. Yes, Jehovah God’s will is being done on the earth as in heaven, just as His Kingdom will rule from heaven over the earth soon, as promised. He is giving everyone a chance to see the truth, by even prophesying through Daniel, that the truth would become known and abundant,..as if it never was in the centuries before now, by Catholics or whoever else, but He is letting it be known by His chosen ones, the Jehovah Witnesses, whom you call a cult. Daniel revealed that the truth would become known in the last days. That’s why Jehovah’s Witnesses have it through Jehovah’s blessing, and are living in accord to everything that Jesus preached and commanded his followers to do. Please accept them in to show you plainly from your own Bible, what “Truth” that Daniel was talking about.
Jesus Christ: God and Eucharist.
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life: 2 For the life was manifested; and we have seen and do bear witness, and declare unto you the life eternal, which was with the Father, and hath appeared to us: 3 That which we have seen and have heard, we declare unto you, that you also may have fellowship with us, and our fellowship may be with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you, that you may rejoice, and your joy may be full. 1 John 1-4
If you deny the very gift of the Father, the Word, that Jesus is God. Then you deny the gift of the Eucharist which is Jesus and is Love itself. Where are you going to end up if you ignore the words of eternal life and the gift of God? Re-read John 6 until you get John 6. Sit before Jesus in a church and do right by yourself by taking in this passage. Jesus is in every Catholic church in the tabernacle and in some, in the monstrance and visible. If you ignore my challenge, read John 6:66. This is not just referring to those Jews of that time, it refers to you, today. Why? John 10:10
Note that God would like one form of offering. It comes not from the Jews but the Gentiles. It is not grain like Cain offered, animal nor fowl. It is worship with a pure offering:
10 Who is there among you, that will shut the doors, and will kindle the fire on my altar gratis? I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord of hosts : and I will not receive a gift of your hand.
11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down, my name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place there is sacrifice, and there is offered to my name a clean oblation : for my name is great among the Gentiles, saith the Lord of hosts. Malachi 1:10-11
What is this pure offering? God and Man: Jesus Christ. He suffered on the cross in the eternal sacrifice. He continues to be offered in this same non-bloody sacrifice re-presented, according to scripture in the Catholic Mass. The only sacrifice good enough for God is God. Do you have an idea of that which IS a clean offering that is not God? No refined Gold, no artesian water—no nothing is as pure as JESUS CHRIST: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity!
Oscar, Oscar… You have won the distinction of having the longest post. Unfortunately, all your questions have been asked and they’ve been answered ad nauseum for decades. Perhaps a snip from “Hunt for Red October” will help you: Everyone’s pinging with their active sonar, but no one’s listening.—Fiction and life also bring to mind the manner in which you are so certain you are serving “Jehovah God” in the [old ABC] television show “Alias.” You may see the parallel in the manner in which you and your Jehovah’s Witnesses remove people from Catholicism and Christian protestantism to enter into the JW faith. Poor Sidney Bristow working her heart out for her country, thinking she is CIA and trapped in the paradigm that is the evil SD6. Freedom from SD6 allows her to truly realize her dream and put her deadly skillset and quick mind to serve her country in the REAL U.S. intelligence organization, the CIA. Even though you choose not to serve your country, salute any flag are you smart enough to know that you are being duped by someone? Or are you just a Bad Robot?
I so agree with you Oscar. We know that we are just planting seeds and Jehovah makes it grow, and we will continue to plant seeds until the end of this system, just as Noah did. The day is coming soon when all those who do not listen to Jehovah’s voice will be begging to enter into that symbolic Ark. We so want eveyone on this earth to recieve everlasting life as Gods word promises. We are looking forward to all of our loved ones being resurrected to perfect health. We don’t make nor does Jehovah make anyone serve him. Jehovah is looking for humble and meek people to serve him. We don’t serve idols such as the flag or any other symbols. The three Hebrew men did not serve idols either. We give our alliegence to GOD and not to any man or idol. When man salutes the flag he says i pledge alliegence to the flag something that truly breaks GOD’s heart! We can beat a dead horse and never get anywhere, but it is not our call to say who is a dead horse, that is left up to our heavenly father. I feel as you do Oscar that people would wake up and see whats happening in the earth today is part of the signs of the end of this wicked system. We are looking forward to living in the paradise earth that Adam and Eve lost. We serve the most awesome God!
Sacred Heart of Jesus pray for us and protect us, Immaculate Heart of Mary truiumph soon so we may have peace
John 6:56
56Anyone who eats me and drinks my blood is in me and I in him.
Acts 1&2 Peter teaches the people many things after Jesus is dead and rose again.Acts 2:14Peter stood up with the eleven apostles. He shouted, `You men of Judea and all who stay in Jerusalem, listen to me! I will tell you the truth.
15You think that these men are drunk. That is not so. It is only nine o’clock in the morning.
16The thing that has happened is what the prophet Joel told about.
17He said, “God says, `In the last days I will send my Spirit on all people. I will speak through your sons and daughters. Your young men will see visions and your old men will have dreams.
18In those days I will send my Spirit on the men and women who serve me and I will speak through them.
19In the sky above and on the earth below I will show wonderful signs with blood and fire and clouds of smoke.
20The sun will be dark and the moon will be like blood. These things will happen before the day of the Lord comes. It will be a great day that will be remembered always.
21And anyone who calls out to the Lord will be saved.’ ”
22`You men of Israel, listen to this. God showed you that he was pleased with this man, Jesus of Nazareth. He proved it by the big works and the wonderful signs which he did by Jesus right here among you people. And you yourselves know it.
23-24This same Jesus was given up. You let bad men take him. You let them nail him to a cross and kill him. This is just the way God had planned it. He knew how it would happen. But God raised him back to life. He set him free from the pain of death. Death could not hold him.
25`King David spoke about Jesus long ago. He said, “I saw the Lord before me always. He is at my right hand so that I may not be shaken.
26-27That made my heart very happy. It made my tongue sing for joy. And even my body also will rest in peace because you will not leave my body in the grave. You will not let your Holy One die and be spoiled.
28You have shown me the ways of life. You will make me very happy when I am with you.”
29`My brothers, I can talk very plainly to you about your father, David. He died and was buried. His grave is still here today.
30He was a prophet. He knew that God had promised him that someone born of his family would sit on his chair to rule. That one was Christ.
31David knew what would happen. So he said that Christ would be raised from death. Christ was not left in the grave. His body was not spoiled. David said all this before it ever happened.
32And now we all saw it. We are telling people that God raised this Jesus back to life.
33`God made him great by making him sit at his right side. God gave him the Holy Spirit as he had promised. So he sent this which you now see and hear.
34-35avid himself has not gone up into the heavens. What he said was, “The LORD God said to my Lord, `Sit at my right hand till I bring your enemies down and put your feet on them.’ ”
36`So let all the people of Israel know this: God has made Jesus to be Lord and Christ. This is the same Jesus whom you nailed to the cross.’
37What Peter said cut the people’s hearts when they heard it. They knew they had done wrong. They said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, `Brothers, what shall we do?’
38`Stop your wrong ways and turn back to God,’ answered Peter. `And then everyone of you can be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ. Your wrong ways will be forgiven you, and you will receive the Holy Spirit.
39This promise is for you and your children and for all those whom the Lord our God calls, even though they are far away.’
40Peter went on talking and teaching the people. `Do not follow the wrong ways of people today,’ he begged.
41Then those who gladly received his words and believed were baptised. That same day about three thousand new believers joined them.
42They kept on being taught by the apostles. And they kept on being with them. They ate bread together and talked with God.
In the Old Testament, there are many instances of people killing for their peoples. God allowed the battle to go well for the Israelites as long as Moses’ arms were held up. God allows for just war, just killing. God comes first, then country. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United Steates of America, to the REPUBLIC, for which it stands. One Nation, under God, indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All.” I do put my hand over my heart when the National Anthem is sung at a contest of sport or a political event. No, I don’t think that God says there goes another idol worshiper, I guess I can’t love anyone any more because my heart is broken. Oh wait, you don’t go to political events do you? You let the rest of the nation do your fighting in war to keep us safe, determine leadership through the vote, etc. What is your sect’s official position on abortion? If you are such good people and some of your folks have called you “Christian” then you should be against ABORTION. IT is a form of killing that has taken 56 MILLION known American lives. 4,000 dead each day, just like 9/11. Never have I encountered a JW praying at an abortion mill.
Hello Mr JP Rosen :-), I really don’t like to waste my time talking to someone that is shown the truth from God’s word, only to have someone like you that will come back and quickly drag the conversation into something totally different from the issues that I was talking about. And I have to say that your overall attitude is anything but humble and meek. There are people in this list of replies that can plainly see that. But in referral to what you were saying about God allowing wars?..well that was very true, back then, because the old Devil would instigate something to the surrounding countries against Israel that was totally pathetic and wrong into the ears of those surrounding nations, to start a war. And so Jehovah God told his people not to fear, for he was with them all the way. Also, Jehovah God never once set up a flag to the country of Israel, for the Israelites to do an act of worship to. That would clearly be an act of idol worship, and would take away the glory that God deserved for saving his people. And since Jesus came to the earth, sent by his Father God Almighty, we were given new instructions on what our overall attitude is to be if someone wants to go to war with us or court with us, telling us to love our enemies and to pray for them and to turn the other cheek, and if someone wants the shirt off your back , to give your undergarments also, and to never ask for anything in return, that by doing so, your heavenly Father would reward you. I had the privileged of talking to a retired General of the U.S. Army while out going from house to house as Jesus taught all his followers to do, taking them the good news of God’s Rulership coming back, and the General took the magazines and told me that if all the people in the world were like Jehovah’s Witnesses, there would be no war. That came from an Army retired General that could plainly see that by following Jesus’ commandments and direction, that people would be at peace with no wars going on. So, it is not from God that these wars are started that you so proudly want to serve in and bow down to, ..it is from the wicked one, Satan the Devil. Jehovah’s meek servants will indeed inherit paradise on earth like He promised, and said, that during that time in paradise, that not even a wild beast would take away the peace of his people, and that would all enjoy the work of their hands. Why squabble now and come up with something that goes against those words from God’s Holy Scriptures? Why not seek peace with your fellow man, ..even your enemies, like Jesus, the one you say you follow, taught us to love? It is the warmongers, the Kings of the earth, that God says he will battle with himself at Armageddon, and get rid of wicked hearted people, so that his meek and peaceful servants will enjoy their lives to the full, for forever. He plainly said that vengeance was his, did he not? I will not be replying anymore to this thread, for it is useless when you show someone the truth of God’s Word, and they ignore it, like it was nothing to it. So, I’ll say so long and may you all have a peaceful day. :-)
Whoa, Oscar. My last post was also about ABORTION. Did you reply to that? No. I’d call us even then. Jesus came to bring the sword. Sister and brother, father and mother all at odds over the Faith. The one true Faith. I am right and I have God on my side and you think I am arrogant, proud and strident—anything but meek and humble. You don’t have the courage to say those things in print. I know you are on the wrong side of the larger discussion and that since you are a Jehovah’s Witness you are simply incorrect. I bid you goodbye, and I hope that you are so uncomfortable and God gives you no peace that you cannot sleep at night and you go to a perpetual adoration chapel and encounter the physical presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament there. Then you grab a Douay Rheims bible off the shelf (since your New World Translation fell in a deep puddle and was destroyed on the way into the chapel)and combined with His Real Presence and a look at scripyures like JN 6, JN 20:21-23 that snap you out of the deception you are trapped within. May God help you before you ruin yet another person of faith and their salvation.

Just a few moments before Christ spoke the words of Matthew 16:18, Peter appeared far from infallible; and Jesus had to rebuke him, saying: “Get behind me, Satan! And after Christ’s death he still did not understand that Christ must be raised from the dead.<<<
You are operating with an incorrect definition of “infallible” Oscar. In matters of FAITH AND MORALS when a pope speaks from the chair, EX CATHEDRA, he is infallible. That is it! The Holy Father does not have to be a priest, even. He is required to be human. The Pope can be bad at math. The Holy Father may not have all social graces. You, Oscar have set up a “straw man” so you could knock him (Peter) down. Dozens of times in scripture the words “Peter and the apostles”... occur.
There are only two times in the New Testament ( in the Gospel of John) that a charcoal fire appears. The connection between them is very clear. It speaks to the points you attempt to make. In the high priests courtyard, by the charcoal fire, is the thrice denial of Peter—and the cock crows. Jesus looks at Peter and Peter weeps bitterly. Then, the Risen Christ on the beach, when Peter and the apostles are fishing, eats a fish that was prepared over a charcoal fire. He three times affirms Peter and sets him on his mission: Do you love Me? YES. “Feed my sheep.” Do you love Me, Peter? YES, Lord, you know I love you. “Feed my lambs.” Do you love Me Peter? YES, Lord you know everything, you know I love you! “TEND MY SHEEP.”
Let the blind see—and let them take this revelation and head over to John 6 and get the rest of the message: What Jesus wants Peter and the priests to feed “us lambs” on… His BODY, BLOOD, SOUL & DIVINITY in the Eucharist.
Certainly, it is very interesting that in Mexico, Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnessees come to the door with an image of Our Lady of Quadalupe to use the blessed image of Our Lady to “get in good” with these unsuspecting Mexican people. This is yet another example of disingenuous behavior on the part of those that do door to door for the wrong teams. Viva Cristo Rey!
To be complete, Our Lady of Guadalupe’s image is employed by them.
For the Catholics wondering why Jehovah’s Witnesses are commenting on this site, they probably figure they can “give a witness” and/or count it as “time” on their Field Service Report that they have to turn in each month, showing how many hours they spent preaching.
If someone wants to go door to door preaching, they certainly have the right to. There is no doubt that Jesus and his followers all preached (elsewise, Christianity would have never spread the way it did). However, they preached in the market place, in public squares or any other public place where the crowds could gather and listen if they wanted to.
There is, however, no biblical evidence whatsoever that either Jesus or his disciples ever went knocking on strangers’ doors Saturday mornings.
The Watchtower’s CD-ROM references Matthew 10:11 (a scripture they use to try and support their door-to-door preaching) with various other scriptures (noted below) in order to ‘prove’ that the earliest disciples preached house to house. Incredibly, the scriptures they reference proves just the opposite: that it is actually referring to lodgings and sustenance, not preaching.
The reason they were not to take any money or extra food or clothing with
them is because in ancient times it was customary for the household to provide these things for visitors:
Luke 10:7: “So stay in that house, eating and drinking the things they provide, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not be transferring from house to house.”
Numbers 18:31 And YOU must eat it in every place, YOU and YOUR household,
because it is YOUR wages in return for YOUR service in the tent of meeting.
Mark 6:8 Also, he gave them orders to carry nothing for the trip except a staff alone, no bread, no food pouch, no copper money in their girdle purses,
Luke 9:3: and he said to them: “Carry nothing for the trip, neither staff nor food pouch, nor bread nor silver money; neither have two undergarments.
(Luke 10:7) So stay in that house, eating and drinking the things they provide, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not be transferring from house to house.
(1 Corinthians 9:14) In this way, too, the Lord ordained for those proclaiming the good news to live by means of the good news.
Matthew Henry Bible Commentary confirms that of the above mentioned verse:
“....In strange towns and cities: when you come to a town, enquire who in it is worthy. [1.] It is supposed that there were some such in every place, as were better disposed than others to receive the gospel, and the preachers of it; though it was a time of general corruption and apostasy…........They must enquire out such; not enquire for the best inns; public houses were no proper places for them that neither
took money with them (v. 9), nor expected to receive any (v. 8); but they must look out for accommodations in private houses, with those that would entertain them well, and expect no other recompense for it but a prophet’s reward, an apostle’s reward, their praying and preaching….In the house of those they found worthy, they must continue; which intimates that they were to make so short a stay at each town, that they needed not change their lodging, but whatever house providence brought
them to at first, there they must continue till they left that town.”
So basically, the Watchtower has combined two distinct practices (preaching and finding lodgings) into one so that it appears that this scripture supports the idea that first century Christians preached from “house to house”.
As I said at the beginning, if someone wants to preach to others going door to door, there’s nothing wrong with it (other than it annoying people), but it is not a method that either Jesus or his disciples used.
