BALTIMORE — The U.S. bishops are reiterating their appeal to President Barack Obama and the newly elected members of Congress to enact just and humane immigration reform within the coming year.

“I am heartened by the recent public statements of the leaders of both political parties supporting the consideration of comprehensive immigration reform in the new Congress,” said Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ migration committee.

“I urge the president and Congress to seize the moment and begin the challenging process of fashioning a bipartisan agreement,” he said in a statement released on Nov. 13, during the fall general assembly of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Baltimore.

Observing the “family separation, exploitation and the loss of life caused by the current system,” the archbishop called for work towards a system “which upholds the rule of law, preserves family unity and protects the human rights and dignity of the person.”

“Millions of persons remain in the shadows, without legal protection and marginalized from society,” he said. “As a moral matter, this suffering must end.”

Noting “the unprecedented bipartisan support for comprehensive immigration reform expressed during the last week,” he also encouraged Catholics to speak out in support of addressing the issue in a timely manner.

In a press conference shortly after the statement’s release, Archbishop Gomez explained that “we are urging the President Obama administration and also the congressional leadership to act on this obvious need in our country.”

“It’s an absolute need,” he said.

Bishops at the press conference highlighted the plight of immigrant communities who are living peacefully and seeking to become full members of society.

The U.S. bishops “have been consistent and firm and very much united with many of the immigrant communities” in calling for a serious discussion on the issue, said Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento, Calif.

He explained that just and humane reform is necessary “not only for the sake of the immigrant communities, but also, I believe, for the sake of American society.”

Bishop John Wester of Salt Lake City pointed out that the bishops have been calling for comprehensive immigration reform for decades.

He stressed that “this would be a great time for bipartisan support for something that’s really a human issue and a moral issue and transcends just simply being a political issue.”

Bishop Gerald Kicanas of Tucson, Ariz., said that he has witnessed a growing interest in addressing immigration among the business community, which recognizes the timeliness of the issue. This is encouraging, he explained, because “we need more voices at the table.”

“We need political leadership,” he said. “We need community leadership.”

I am in a pickle here.  My parents were immigrants to this country.  My wife immigrated here.  I am about as bicultural as they get, but I am concerned about immigration reform.  We cannot allow everyone who wants to migrate, the opportunity to do so; the way it appears the democrats want.  The Republicans want to shut down the border entirely and not let anyone in. (I know I am over generalizing but you get the picture)  Now I hear Republicans saying it should be merit based, “Let those people in that we want here because of certain skill or education”.

What Immigration reform does the Church favor?  It has to be somewhere in between.

Giancarlo,

My wife immigrated here too.  Immigration is not an abstract concept to me either.

The Republicans want to shut down the border entirely and not let anyone in. (I know I am over generalizing but you get the picture)

I’m sorry, but I don’t get the picture.  Sounds like either slander or calumny to me.  No one I know who identifies themselves as a Republican wants to close the border.  Secure it, I’ve heard that.  Close the border, no; I haven’t heard that.

What does the church say?  CCC #2241 is a good place to start.

In 50 years there will be NO majority White countries left. Yet Africans will have over 40 nations that remain black African. Asia will remain Asian. ONLY White countries are being flooded with non-Whites and it is EVERY single White country.
When the Chinese force assimilate Tibet, it is rightly called genocide. Genocide does not require lining people up and killing them.
If Africa was undergoing forced assimilation and massive immigration of non-blacks to the point that every single African country would be non-black by midcentury, well we would know it was genocide.
They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-White. Anti-racist is a code word for anti-White.

The Catholic church should not be supporting a policy of GENOCIDE against White children.

Mass immigration and FORCED assimilation in ALL White countries and ONLY White countries is GENOCIDE

UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Article 2 1948

...any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy in whole or part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group as such

c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part

Anti-racism is really just a codeword for anti-White

You must have gotten your info about Republicans from Democrats.
The Republicans have never wanted to stop LEGAL Immigration.
We MUST CLOSE our borders to slow ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, which causes all the ills mentioned in the above article - including drug running, sexual slavery, death, etc.
LEGAL immigration is in accord with the CCC.
CCC: ” 2241 The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin.  Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.
Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption.
Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them,  to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens. “
Unfortunately, due to over-spending and mismanagement, the USA is no longer prosperous and does not have enough jobs for all the able bodied people who should be working.  The Bishops also need to address “Commutative Justice” which is in the CCC - paying debts.

I respect the Church and take seriously what she has to say, but I cannot support the genocide of my own people, White people. The levels of immigration they are talking about will reduce the majority White population to a minority, destroying the unique culture of an identifiable racial group. This is genocide according to the United Nations. I know many will regard my comments as racist, but I’m afraid those people are simply anti-White. Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-White.

OK, Aquinasadmirer, maybe I should have stated over generalizing.  I realize that Republicans (of which I have been one for over 20 years) want’t to stop illegal immigration yet favor legal immigration.  But look at some of the comments here.  Genocide of white people.  Illegal immigration causes drug running, sexual slavery…

Anne, the drug running and sexual slavery is committed by such a small percentage of the people coming here illegally that you should state that “Humans cause all of the ills mentioned in the article above…”  The overwhelming majority of immigrants come here for the opportunity to work for a better life.  They come from such misery that almost NO American can understand their struggles.  Imagine, minimum wage is a luxury.  I lived overseas for 8 years in Central America and had college educated engineers working for me that made less than US$800 per month.  That was a decent salary imagine what an uneducated worker makes ($150-$200) not enough to live on.  So $1300 per month seems amazing to them.  They will leave spouses and and children to take jobs that few Blacks and few whites want.

I am for stopping illegal immigration entirely.  I am also not for amnesty to illegals here.  But the path for legal immigration was developed by idi0ts (sorry for the strong language but personal experience gives me the authority in my own mind).  That is my whole issue here.  No one seems to want to fix the problem and I don’t know where the Church stands.

Oh and by the way.  For both Anne and Benny.  There is NO material heritage nor is there any identifiable racial group among the Whites in the US.  We came from backgrounds that are about as diverse from one another as Whites are from Blacks and from Asians and from Hispanics.  The whites that emigrated here are from Western, and Central and Eastern Europe.  I know that the Brits don’t identify with Poles nor the French with Russians.  Heck, French and Italians don’t really like one another that much.

OK, maybe I should have said over-generalizing, but did you look at these comments.  “...Genocide on white people”, “....Illegal Immigration which causes…including drug running, sexual slavery, death, etc”.  Anne, the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants want a better life.  Back in their home countries they live in a misery that 99% of Americans cannot comprehend.  To say that illegal immigration causes all these ills is silly.  As much of what’s wrong with America is due to Americans, white and black, as with illegal immigrants.  And I have news for all of you…  there is no identifiable white racial group or material heritage.  Western Europeans are as different from Eastern Europeans as they are from Latins or Asians.

@Giancarlo Taliente
What do you mean there is no identifiable White racial group? Stop being silly. Would you say there is no identifiable Black racial group, because there is difference among people of African descent? Would you say there is no identifiable Asian racial group, because there is difference among people of Asian descent? Or are you just anti-White? The fact is that massive third-world immigration and forced integration is, according to the United Nations, genocide. Genocide is a crime against humanity. It is never justifiable, not for any reason. Like I said, anti-racist is a codeword for anti-White.

Reggie,

First of all, I am white, of European descent and wholely Roman Catholic.  As for no identifiable racial group.  What do you mean by identifiable?  Because white Latin Europeans identify more with brown Latins than they do with white Eastern Europeans.  And how about white Asians, (Turks, Former Soviet Republics)  where do they fit in?  That is what I mean by no identifiable race.  You, good sir, are exactly what I referred to as in my first post.  And please provide your source for the UN comment about Mass Third world immigration being termed Genocide.  I think the UN is pretty much worthless but this is a stretch even for them.  This is why I would rather form my opinion on immigration on what the Church says rather than what my Republican political affilation says.

You anti-Whites are so predictable. You fall back on the “race isn’t real” canard in an effort to avoid asking the questions I posed. Again, would you say there is no identifiable Black racial group, because there are difference among people of African descent? Would you say there is no identifiable Asian racial group, because there are differences among people of Asian descent? Or are you just anti-White?

The following is from the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. (b) and (c) are the most relevant passages:

“Article II: In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Now you know why everyone is saying that anti-racist is a codeword for anti-White.

Hey Giancarlo, take it easy. Why are you trying to divide Whites? Forget about the past, we should consider ourselves as a family and move forward united because the entire third world, the non-White world, is out there ready to invade us. And, BTW, read a book about Roman Latin History and you will learn who the real Latins are.
