The business guys want me to jump in with a quick reminder of who pays for the National Catholic Register. You do.

We don’t have any help from outside the publication. Ad revenues help, subscriber revenues help, but with a publication such as ours, it all comes down to donations. Your donations. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to be better at reminding readers what exactly it is that they’re getting here. I have failed. I will take it on again for Lent ...

My plan is to focus on three areas. I’ll bring up one or two of these periodically:

1. What this site offers you, in addition to the deft reporting and major scoopage of Tom McFeely.

  Free features:

The Events Tab at the top of your screen links to our calendar, which we update monthly, reporting
  Catholic events in your area.

Our Daily Umbert gives you a daily view on the only unborn comic strip character in America today
(look to the left to see it).

The User’s Guide to Sunday, helping you prepare for the Lord’s Day.

We also provide Resources such as:

The Catholic College Identity College Guide, giving respondents’ answers to our Catholic identity
  questions.

The Top 100 Catholic Movies List (I go there often to plan the Hoopes family’s Catholic Movie Night).

The How to Be Catholic Guides, aids to evangelization you can print out.

Confession Guides including examinations of conscience for adults, and children (the Hoopes kids
print them out every time we head over to confession).

And, for these 40 days, our Lenten Guide has lots of ideas for what you can give up.

2. Reasons to subscribe

I also plan to remind you that print subscribers get even more benefits:

Our Media Watch features.

Cool articles you never get for free online, and all articles whenever you want.

The Pope’s monthly prayer intentions.

Campus news.

Weekly pro-family profiles.

Culture of Life help for your family.

Baby mugs and Umbert.

The earliest, best translation of Pope Benedict’s weekly catechesis.

Weekly book picks

Weekly DVD picks

Weekly TV picks

Family Matters questions and our experts’ answers.

... and our archive of content going back 20 years.

3. But the other thing I’ll be reminding you is that we need money.

Because for us to do for you what we do, we need a healthy influx of you doing for us what you do ... contribute to the Register’s mission.

Click the button and discover how you can become part of the mission of promoting the Catholic faith in ways your wallet never imagined.

You need us. We need you. Let’s make this work.
