Al Franken (Reuters)

Al Franken, the Democratic comedian-turned-politician who has a long history of anti-Catholic diatribes, was today declared the winner of the disputed 2008 U.S. Senate race in Minnesota by the state’s Supreme Court.

Following the decision, incumbent Republican Sen. Norm Coleman conceded defeat, CNN reported.

Franken’s victory leaves the Democrats poised to assume a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority in the Senate.
