Evangelical leaders in Britain have crafted a set of “Ten Commandments for Bloggers.”
The commandments were proclaimed at a Sept. 23 “Godblogs” conference in London, according to the Times of London.
“They have been engraved on cyberspace tablets by the Evangelical Alliance, the leading Christian umbrella group founded in 1846 that represents thousands of churches of most denominations nationwide,” the Times reported.
Patterned semi-humorously on the actual Ten Commandments, the commandments instruct Christian bloggers not to make an idol of the Internet and to refrain from virtual sins such as incessant or mean-spirited blogging.
But the Blogging Commandments have a serious purpose, according to the Evangelical leaders who crafted them.
Krish Kandiah, executive director of Churches in Mission, told the Times, “These commandments are virtual rather than set in stone, but are offered to the blogging community as a way to link the Ten Commandments with the art of blogging.”
