Pope John Paul II died four years ago today, on April 2, 2005.
I was in Rome at the time, and joined in the prayers offered for John Paul the Great in St. Peter’s Square immediately following the announcement of his death.
It remains a fresh and poignant memory for me, as I’m sure it does for the many thousands of other people who were present in the square as John Paul journeyed from this life into eternal life in the house of the Father.
