What To Do About Refugees?

If your heart has been moved at the plight of the Syrian refugees, whatever else you do, you should pray for them.

If you're frustrated that none of your friends seem to understand that refugees are as human as any American family, and are afraid of the same enemy we're afraid of, then you should pray for your friends.

If you're afraid of infiltrators from Daesh, you should pray for them.

If you're frustrated that none of your friends seem to understand that there is a real danger in exposing ourselves to infiltration by murderous Daesh terrorists, you should pray for your friends.

If you think Obama is putting the country at grave risk, you should pray for him.

If you think Obama is doing the right thing for once, you should pray for him.

If you're ashamed of your governor's stance on accepting refugees, you should pray for your governor.

If you're proud of your governor's stance on accepting refugees, you should pray for your governor.

If you think of the poor victims of Daesh and are filled with terror, you should pray for their victims.

If you think of the poor victims of Daesh and are filled with terror, you should pray for the members of Daesh.

If you think that Western political actions of the past decade have helped to bring Daesh to power, you should pray for the people who made those decisions.

If you think Muslims are all terrorists, you should pray for them.

If you think Muslims are peace-loving victims, you should pray for them.

If you think Muslims should be doing more to denounce terrorists, you should pray for them.

If you think non-Muslims should be doing more to fight discrimination against Muslims, you should pray for them.

If you are irritated and disheartened beyond belief by the squabbling and name-calling and hyperbole you see on social media, then you should pray for every single person involved.

And pray for yourself. Pray that God will give you peace and wisdom, and the courage to respond however He wants us to respond, to people we fear, people we despise, people we disagree with, and people we can't stand.

Pray. Pray!

Maybe you don't need a reminder, but I do. Almost none of us are in a position to do anything else. We can vote, we can argue, we can maybe collect money or baby carriers or signatures or other signatures or bug-out bags -- but if you believe in God, then doing any of these things without praying is like shopping for furniture when you're homeless. Prayer is where we ought to live, where we ought to start our day from and where we come home to at night. Prayer is the foundation under our feet and the roof over our heads. Going it alone, without prayer, turns us all into refugees.
