Secular Writer Takes on Fr. John Corapi

My Money's on the Priest

A. A. Gill, contributing editor at Vanity Fair, usually writes restaurant reviews. He’s probably pretty good at it. He should stick to the food.

Unfortunately, however, after a recent visit to the Kentucky’s Creation Museum, he could not contain his disdain.

In a mocking article in Vanity Fair, he made fun of the city of Cincinnati as being “Behind the times” and its residents as “Neanderthals lacking technology.” Some Cincinnatians took umbrage. And then Gill took some back.

Going just a bit too far, in my opinion.

In a recent interview with Meghan Fox, Gill hurled a whole new set of insults at Cincinnatians and Christians, going so far as to disparage the upcoming Cincinnati conference scheduled to feature the enormously popular Fr. John Corapi at the Cintas Center July 17.

“This type of conference is one of the plethora of examples proving how ‘these people’ manage to lack the ability in progressing with the ideas and findings of the times. The people behind this event are perfect examples of the neanderthal mindset their city’s decision makers have repeatedly shown, neglecting to acknowledge advancements in modern science,” said Gill. “All this theoretical religious rubbish, it baffles me the amount of money and time invested in a conference with a priest ranting about an age old message that carries no basis or fact. Have these people opened a book in the past decade!? Who cares what message this man pretends to have, while he makes money off of it. The Church has made more money off of humanity than any organization in the world with ‘theories’ like the Creation Museum and Father Corapi.”

But wait, there’s high-brow name-calling too:

“Surely there is nothing ‘Fr. Crappy’ [referencing Fr. John Corapi] could possibly say that would affect me or the rest of humanity who, like me, have more than half a brain. Sure I think God wants us to gather and have conferences, however, He probably prefers they progress our well being with intelligent thought rather than destroy it with a message of rubbish ... Wait, I have a suggestion for ‘Fr. Crappy’ and Cincinnati from what I’ve seen of it. Invest in a conference on how to use electronic devices or how to acquire some style that’s NOT inspired by the Amish of the early 1900’s.”

As the man behind the Corapi event, Catholic businessman Joe Condit of CMG Booking has every reason to be insulted and disgusted by A. A. Gill’s mean-spirited, unprovoked, and personal attack.

But Mr. Condit has responded both professionally and generously.

When I spoke with Condit this morning, he praised Gill as a gifted writer and hoped Gill would give Cincinnati a chance to make a second impression.

“I would love to take this opportunity to pose a proposition to Mr. Gill,” Condit said. “I would like to invite him as my personal guest to the Father Corapi event in Cincinnati.  I would be more than happy to cover all his expenses. Consider this a second chance for the city of Cincinnati to make a different impression, and better yet, see for himself if Father Corapi’s message doesn’t affect him in some way.”

No word yet on whether Gill will accept Condit’s Christian invitation.

We should congratulate Mr. Condit!  My reaction would not have been so Christ-like.

Great stuff! Joe Condit handled it beautifully.

I love how anti-Christian proponents disparage Christian thought without truly delving into the faith.  I would like to ask Gill how is this conference hurting him?

If Fr. Corapi is such a “neanderthal” i would like him to explain how my full blooded manly husband wept at the end of Fr. Corapi’s conversion story when he told of the woman who re-visited him, this time in the Vatican after he made his vows (our Blessed Mother).  All Gill accomplishes by his hateful rhetoric is for him to look shallow and mean spirited, and frankly it makes him seem jealous as well.

Um… does the writer even know that Catholics have traditionally always accepted the theory of Evolution in addition to Creationism? Obviously, the writer doesn’t know much about what he protests.

Gill apparently doesn’t know Fr Corapi’s past was one of wealth who ran with the Hollywood stars. Gill’s arrogance and lack of knowledge is shocking, both about Catholic beliefs and Fr Corapi’s intentions.  Gill tells us to get some style?  We tell him to get some meaningful substance in his life!

We love you Father Corapi!!!! It is ingnorance on Gill’s part. He does not even know what Fr. Corapi’s message is or what the conference is all about. He needs prayer more than anything!

The real question for A. A. Gill is, does he know that Graydon Carter still smokes Camel cigarettes? Talk about neanderthal thinking, Gill out to check out his own backyard before throwing stones at Fr. Corapi…

Electronic devices and “style”.  That’s what the world really needs.

All I have to say about this alleged writer is that she is an !@#$%! (May I use that perjorative word to describe her?). He couldn’t hold a match to Fr. Corapi. And I don’t think he gives a rat’s behind about what he or any clearly anti-Christian person thinks. He KNOWS the truth.

I called A.A. Gill a “she.” What an insult to womanhood!

What in the world could you say to Gill? It’s all part of the Cross folks, don’t let it bother you. Don’t get all worked up, the best thing is just ignore him.

i’m dancing a hootenanny right now, with my corncob pipe and all 3 of my teeth…you guessed it, i live in Cincinnati!  I continue using that dargnabbit morse code on my telegraph line>> shoot and holler, i sure could use some electronics! I’m still wearing dem darn shoulder-strappin’-trousers i’s gots from my ol’ great uncle Bucky!  oh shucks, dem i didn’ knows dat dere are clothes odder dan Amish clothes!  Shazzzam!
As a man who’s traveled to most states in the U.S. and Europe; and i’ve lived in many different cities and towns, residing presently in Cincinnati, trying to figure this elitist, pompous !@#$% out is a waste of my time - this guy’s mindset is still that of a high schooler proving how much better and more worthy he is than the other kids at school.  give me a break duder!  I’s gots to goes back to da holler now - i’s needs to fix dat outhouse ya know?

What I find surprising is just how little sense Gill’s complaints make. I’m not totally surprised that he is shooting off his mouth with any real idea about the particulars, for instance suggesting Fr. Corapi is getting rich with this conference. I’ve never heard of Gill and I don’t read Vanity Fair, so maybe someone could help me by telling me which book published in the last ten years conclusively solved the history long search for the meaning of existence so that people shouldn’t seek out religion anymore? I myself am a voracious reader, though maybe I don’t have the half a brain I thought I did, if I missed this literary marvel. Was it featured on Oprah?

Fr. Corapi is going to kick Gill’s butt every way around the world and put Gill in his place.  God bless Fr. Corapi and I love you.

Hey Gill, consider this statement: “Science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration toward truth and understanding. This source of feeling, however, springs from the sphere of religion. To this there also belongs the faith in the possibility that the regulations valid for the world of existence are rational, that is, comprehensible to reason. I cannot conceive of a genuine scientist without that profound faith. The situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”
That statement was from Albert Einstein, in a speech given in 1939. So I suppose you want to put your “half a brain” up against his? You hate the idea of God and religion because otherwise you would be unable to justify your life. Too bad.

Who cares what the world thinks of us? Those who try to seek friendship with the world invariably find enmity with God, because the world rejected and continues to reject God.  They want to believe in a nihilistic material world because this gives them license to do whatever their passions dictate. Any dispute of Darwinism (their pet theory) is to them a mortal sin; and as Darwinism is built upon such rickety foundations that can’t be defended rationally, the only pseudo-intelligent response is to call everyone that disagrees “neanderthals” and, failing that, revert to childish name calling.

I think they’re simply upset that their own over-inflated ego can’t tolerate the fact that people actually give weight to Christ’s Church and such excellent Apologists and Catechists as Fr. Corapi, instead of their own “learned” expert opinions.  They’re really going to be angry when they realize that, in the end, they’re nothing but dust and ashes that no one will even remember. Christ has overcome the world; don’t be surprised to see such acts of desperation, as they’re simply the death throes of a decaying and obsolete order.

Ironic. It makes him look unintelligent and uneducated in theology

I love it when smart guys like gill make a fool of themselves.I was just thinking this morning why do real smart people do stupid things.
I guess I was thinking of this because of all the dumb and stupid things I have done in my almost 72 years on this planet but then again I only have a high School education and a few College units and don’t write about food but sure do like to eat it maybe I will check out some of Gills articles see how good he is at his regular job if he still has a job.(Just kidding)I hope he does keep his job and accept the invitation to attend the conference I think he would change his mind after listening to Fr Corapi.

As a childhood Cincinnati (actually Mt. Lookout, John Kilgour elementary) resident who went to Reds games when Riverfront Stadium was the newest, most high-tech stadium in the USA, I now learn some restaurant reviewer is hurling insults and accusations at a Catholic priest who was present at the last party John Belushi ever attended, and has since converted untold masses of Catholics to the fuller understanding of the gift that is our faith.  To quote Gilbert Gottfried in ‘Alladdin:’ “Maybe I’ll have a heart attack and die from that surprise.” I have to say that’s a very creative, if desperate, way to get noticed when the sum total of your accomplishments is to be a restaurant reviewer for some bastion of old-skool 60s New York ‘do it till you’re satisfied’ self-gratification. Groovy, Gill. Of course I must have no style or electronics so—what are all these little lighted things with letters on them that I keep banging my fingers on?

Dear Mr. Gill,  Your right it’s hard to understand this rubbish.  Jesus himself said the way of the cross will look foolish to many.  The most important thing is that Jesus loves you and we love you.  I know that your focus on technology maybe your way of saying I have a void technology can’t fill.  God loves you and is calling you and it may be that Fr. “Crappy” is the very man with a message just for you from God himself.  We all will pray for you in the spirit of faith and love because that is who we are.

The only thing left for Mr. Gill is prayer itself.  Remember, there were men who knew Christ personally, yet still denied him and walked away.  While I pray for Mr. Gill’s conversion, my gut feeling (Holy Spirit?) tells me that Mr. Condit is probably wasting good money on a very lost and angry soul.  I end with this quote from A.A.Gill, as he describes what it felt like to take a trip to Tanzania and heartlessly slaughter a wild Baboon.  This is his description of the experience.

“What does it really feel like to shoot someone, or someone’s close relative? But, as so often happens in life, when you stare into the magnifying glass at a profundity, it’s the prosaic and pitiful that’s reflected back. He looked much smaller dead; the elegant and nimble black fingers were terribly human, with their opposable thumbs, just a couple of stops down the Metropolitan line of evolution. I examined his fingernails with the same surprise and awe I did when my children were born.”

May God help us all, especially the editors of Vanity Magazine, who continue to employ this sick and twisted soul.

Respectfully,
Pete from Pickerington, OH

If Mr. Gill wished for style, it appears that Mr. Condit has displayed it in spades. As Fr. Corapi well knows, it is possible to recover from the life that Mr. Gill seems to lead, to convert and come to the truth. I pray that this is the next step on that conversion, for “nothing is impossible with God.”

Well….I just wrote to Vanity Fair to let them know why I would no longer be purchasing their magazine in future.
- I have noticed them becoming more and more strident on the “issue” of Christianity and I’m, frankly, tired of it…yes by all means lets pray for Mr. Gill but I’d rather not line his pockets at the expense of the faithful, especially while he is maligning good priests like Father Corapi….

Okay, now I want to go to Cincinnati.  I’m sure you’ve got some great malls and shopping plazas just waiting for me to visit.

I gave up reading Vanity Fair years ago.

Where can I find the AA Gill interview by Meghan Fox? The article on the Creation Museum does not seem to be the one mentioning Fr Corapi. I also don’t see how Gill can blame the Museum on Cincinnati if it’s located in Kentucky.

Either way, it looks impressive, even though I adhere to the principles of the “evolutionary method.” Like a told a Protestant friend last week, “God created us all by way of our parents Adam and Eve, leave the rest of the details to the scientist.”

As a former English teacher, what puzzles me most about this article is how a writer who obviously can’t produce decent English prose can get published. Of course I never read Vanity Fair, so in that regard I am as ignorant about his milieau as he is about Catholicism. Perhaps it’s all slop.

About evolution, I would have a question to ask you that actually people can’t explain : What proves that there had been an evolution ?  Fossils ?  It only shows that there had been finite species, not evolved. It’s only an idea that came there trying to explain the creation without God…  If you disagree with what I see, argue scientifically to me please.  Because I don’t sincerely see any proof of an evolution.  I only see God’s wisdom in each species, there are no species half evolved and not finite.

As an evolution-minded person, my feeling is that the process is a testament to His glory. I can do some research to confirm this, but the theory in and of itself has been around well before Darwin. In fact, I think some of the doctors of the Church held to that. I know I have heard Bishop Fulton Sheen state similar.

Again, evolution is not contrary to God. It is a process by which many species are formed even leading to us. We are humans because God made us. He could have started with any foundation He pleased or simply just made us from the earth itself. That was up to Him.

as an investigator by trade, I see fossils, their dates and the progression they imply as logical evidence (circumstantial of course) that one species became another over time. I think our present world bears that out in some of those same finches Darwin studied. If I recall there are some papers that, again, lend evidence to evolution. This theory, like the Big Bang, can never be fully proven as it is a mystery of God. The loop of all creation can only begin and end with God.

Science without God is like finishing a puzzle with the picture side down. The pieces fit the and the shape is complete but you still got a blank canvass. God completes the picture by flipping it over and relieving the truth. Get what I mean.

I personnaly don’t find that evolution makes sense.  There are many species that can’t have evolved from another species.  How did you get the giraffe, the elephant and any other species…  You don’t find any species between the giraff and the species that would have evolved from.  I find that evolution is more a matter of imagination than science.  When we do science we need concrete proof, not only ideas from imagination.  People should read books like “Billions of missing links” and “Darwin’s Black box” who look at the theory of evolution sincerely with science.  It doesn’t make sense that life would have come from mutation.  How did you get the spider ? Life is intelligent. It doesn’t make sense… And how the first life came in the universe, it is certainly not with a mix of matiere, but it is from God.

Does anybody still read VANITY FAIR?

My money’s on “the Priest” too !

I would like to see Gill take on Fr. Corapi in person. Fr. Corapi would be quite charitable, of course, but it would be like Elijah taking on the Beezlebul.

Don’t worry.  Ms. A.A. Gill is churning his website with violent invective like that, selling copies of Vanity Fair.  There are plenty of people who are (a) more intelligent than A.A. Gill and (b) convinced of the Gospel message.

So I think Mr. Condit is on the right track.

A.A. Gill should just relax and do not worry about it.  Get out of the ugly invective suit.  Plenty of other people in his current state have come to believe the Gospel, so friendliness is a better suit of clothes to wear.

Why do so-called intellectuals resort to name calling?  This seems to me to be a constipation of the intellect resulting in diarrhea of the mouth.

Hey Danielle, I immediately posted this article to my facebook once I saw it—classic. Thank you for writing about it! It reminds me of the “Top 10 Fr. Corpi Facts” that Patrick Madrid posted a while back: http://patrickmadrid.blogspot.com/2009/09/pats-top-ten-father-corapi-facts.html

My favorite is “Fr. Corapi can make onions cry.” Poor Mr. Gill, messing with the wrong Roman Catholic priest.

There’s lots of Mr. Gills out there, that is why we pray etc., to save souls…weren’t you a Mr. Gill or some semblance of him at some point in your spiritual life?...so, I will pray that Mr. Gill goes to the conference and the Holy Spirit ‘bats him over the head’.... :)

It always strikes me as extremely odd that people who believe that all things religious are a myth and the product of wishfull thinking take such an intense interest in it. Why are they so concerned with something in which they have no belief whatsoever? Strange indeed.

@Francios, I am in total agreement. Life is solely from God. But the methods He chose are always up for debate. It is part of His mystery.

I see a progression of many species and you may not. But our opinions on the matter do not matter one way or another vis-a-vis Church doctrine.

That is why the Church, in the Catechism, states: “283 The question about the origins of the world and of man has been the object of many scientific studies which have splendidly enriched our knowledge of the age and dimensions of the cosmos, the development of life-forms and the appearance of man. These discoveries invite us to even greater admiration for the greatness of the Creator, prompting us to give him thanks for all his works and for the understanding and wisdom he gives to scholars and researchers. With Solomon they can say: “It is he who gave me unerring knowledge of what exists, to know the structure of the world and the activity of the elements. . . for wisdom, the fashioner of all things, taught me.”

So believing for or against evolution makes no difference so long as we all maintain one thing - God is the sole architect of life.

Divine Mercy Now.

1. Creation Kingdom has nothing to do with the Catholic Church, so that bit of pish posh is, well…pish posh.

2. This man clearly has no idea who Fr. Corapi is, his history or heard his sermons/lectures/teaching. If he did I would imagine that, at the very least, the level of vitriol would diminish. Or maybe not.

May Our Lady bring Mr. Gill to Jesus!
God bless Fr. Corapi!

I live in a Cincinnati suburb (and love it) and have been to one of Fr. Corapi’s conferences in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Strange, given that my husband and I are both college educated, as is Fr. Corapi.

I’ve pondered Mr. Gill’s remarks about “Amish” dress because many of the people I see walking around in downtown Cincinnati are so immodestly dressed that I’m tempted to throw blankets on them to preserve their dignity.  Then I realized that Mr. Gill must have driven by Old St. Mary’s early on a Sunday morning and noticed how many of us Cincinnati Catholic women still wear veils to Mass.

It’s head covering that’s driving him crazy!  Bet he’d lose it over meatless Fridays.

Pray for Mr. Gill

I like to personnaly thanks,Mr McGills for his abusive comment
toward our verry good Father Corapi.Just one more stepp toward the Saint-hood,dear Father…

The path to Humility is paved with the stones of humiliation…great come back Mr Condit!

Is Mr. Gill by any chance aware that the Catholic Church initiated and promoted the university system, the arts and humanities, the sciences over the centuries.  Its contribution to Western Civilization is enormous.

My father had been away from the Church most of his adult life.  The only Masses he attended was for weddings and funerals.

A few months ago he returned to the Church and made his first confession in over 30 years.  He now attends Mass regularly, receiving the Sacraments, and is praying his rosary regularly.

And the vehicle through which the Holy Ghost brought my dad back to the Church?

Father Corapi.

Father Corapi for Bishop of Rochester!

Mr. Chesterton explained Mr. Gill one hundred years ago. On Christian Orthodoxy and those who assault it:
“It can always be urged against it that it is in its nature arbitrary and in the air. But it is not so high in the air that great archers spend their whole lives shooting arrows at it—yes, and their last arrows; there are men who will ruin themselves and ruin their civilization if they may ruin also this old fantastic tale. This is the last and most astounding fact about this faith; that its enemies will use any weapon against it, the swords that cut their own fingers and the firebrands that burn their own homes. Men who begin to fight the Church for the sake of freedom and humanity end by flinging away freedom and humanity if only they many fight the Church. ...
... He sacrifices the very existence of humanity to the non-existence of God. He offers his victims not to the altar, but merely to assert the idleness of the altar and the emptiness of the throne. He is ready to ruin even that primary ethic by which all things live, for his strange and eternal vengeance upon someone who never lived at all.
And yet the thing hangs in the heavens unhurt.

Father Corapi, the battle for Christ continues, there is no retreat nor is there surrender. Father, I know you I and others will continue the fight.

After almost completing a study of James, and all it has to say about the tongue, “count it all joy when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces pererverance”. James 1:2

It’s people like Gill we must all pray for…it seems for him and many others that they would rather be bound to the rubbish of their own notions than the truth and light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that can set them free.  Pray for conversion of mind and heart.  There is only one truth and that is the truth of walking and living the Gospel message…I guess some are just too self righteous…think they know more than God.  Aren’t they in for a rude AWAKENING!!

A. A. Gill is a perfect example of both ignorance and ignorance of his own ignorance. As Darrow did with Chesterton, he has apparently mistaken Fr. John Corapi with “a fundamentalist aunt”. It will interesting to see if he accepts Mr. Condit’s invitation or continues to joust against straw windmills.

This incident is interesting to me because I just read this in my local online blog forum point for the Charlotte Observer:

Do Liberals, Atheists Have Higher IQs?
By Jennifer Thomas
HealthDay Reporter

TUESDAY, March 9 (HealthDay News)—According to a recent study, published in the March issue of Social Psychology Quarterly.People who consider themselves liberals or atheists tend to have higher IQs than those who are more religious or conservative, a new study suggests.

Poor Mr. Gill might have been misinformed if he was also exposed to the same findings in the above study.

The real teaching point to me in this report, and I will think on this for the rest of my life I hope, is the graciousness of Mr. Condit’s response. Wow, now that is what I want to be like when I am persecuted or maligned or made fun of!

After reading a story about a woman whose IQ went up after an exorcism I wondered, ‘Does evil make you dumb?’ If you understand God as the Source of Wisdom and evil as separation from the Source, then yeah, it does.  The other day I picked up a “science” magazine and read a stem cell researcher say something like, “Nature aborts fertilized eggs every day so why can’t I make some in a test tube and experiment on them.”  He claimed we Catholics couldn’t even begin to answer such a flawless logic puzzle. Well, how ‘bout this; people die every day too, that doesn’t mean we get to kill people for science experiments.  He was really mad because one day he’d like to make a monkey/human hybrid just for fun, but those blasted bioethics people are always in his way (Oh how I wish I were making this up). So anyway, Mr. Gill wasn’t the stupidest atheist I’ve heard this week.  There seems to be a movement under way to shame people into believing scientific thought (approved God-less version) is intelligent thought and anything metaphysical is not. I would argue the opposite.  Religious thought (along with creativity and the arts) is the HIGHEST level of thinking because a dog, a computer and an educated flea can predict an outcome from different variables but none of them can compose Ave Maria.

Sondra - do you have a link to that article about the sad mad scientist?

Last time I checked, style and modesty went hand in hand. Now fashion trends are another thing but trends always pass. Evolution is a theory that people took bad science and illogical thought processing to support. Creationism has more solid scientific support than any big bang or other nonsense. As for embracing technology, apparently this guy has no solid info about Fr. Corapi because Fr. Corapi is extremely tech savvy. We always have to remember that they talked rubbish about Christ so we have to expect the same if we want the ultimate reward. This Mr Gill seems to be very insecure to launch an attack like this. People often lash out at that which they fear. Perhaps his fear comes from an unhealthy fear of Truth. By that I mean the fact that God is Truth and without God there is no truth.

Great news Larry!  I found an online link to the whole article, Doug Melton: Crossing Boundaries. (Discover Magazine, June 2005).  The sad/mad scientist is, of course, Doug Melton who is referred to as a “Philosopher scientist.”  I believe there might be some parts missing from this online article because I swore in the printed version he said something like, “I don’t know why bioethics boards should have any power at all because everything comes down to religious opinion and I don’t know why my opinion isn’t just as good.” Moral relativism at its finest.  My answer to that would be; his opinion is biased because he wants to make chimeras and he lacks training in ethics. The following is an actual quote: “No, but I have to talk publicly about it often, like with Catholic priests and with the Board of Overseers of Harvard. So I actually have educated myself quite a lot on the various religious views. I don’t really want to get into it, and the reason is I don’t think it’s fundamentally interesting. It largely has to do with the trivial concern of trying to put a tag on when life begins.”  Say what?!  What kind of philosopher finds this topic boring?  Here’s the link.  It gets really good on page 2:
http://discovermagazine.com/2005/jun/doug-melton-crossing-boundaries/?searchterm=stem cell researcher

“Father Crappy.”  “Neanderthal.” Hmm.  How does one respond to such a brilliantly incisive critique as that?  By giving Mr. Gill a sedative perhaps?  Or even some chocolate…

Father Corapi is one of the greatest speakers of our times,he will offer only peace but most of all forgiveness to Mr. Gill. Yes, Father Corapi speaks truth.

I think I know what the “A.A.” in A.A. Gill stands for.\:
ABSOLUTE A—HOLE!

B/T/W - I’d pay $150 to see Fr. Corapi smack this turd around in a pay per view cage match smackdown following his sermon.

I believe we must be careful how we address Gill, or we can be stuck in the same mire as he is.

Read an article and it stated bluntly—“SIN MAKES YOU STUPID”
Will have to look for it…

The Deceiver by LIVIO FANZAGA***
Satan seduces, but you are the one who decides. Even though his seduction is very powerful, he can not bend your will to do evil. Even though the tempest of thoughts, desires, resentment, and hatred he stirs in your heart is overwhelming, there is no sin without your free and conscious consent. Eve sinned because she wanted to sin. God has put our will exclusively in our hands.

The Corruption**
There are apostles of evil. They are people who besides ruining themselves drag along other souls also. They have perverted themselves into becoming demons, as Saint Catherine of Siena asserted, and thus “fulfill the office of the demons,” inducing others to sin. It is truly said that one never sins alone. Our sin is negatively reflected in our neighbors. If we do not repent quickly and return to God the heart is hardened and, almost to reassure ourselves, we drag others along the way of ruin.

Eve was so possessed by evil that she did not hesitate to entice Adam also. “She also gave some to her husband, and he ate” (Gen 3:6). When you examine your life, remember all the times that by your words, evil example, and complicity you have pushed your neighbor into the arms of the evil one. Think of all those souls that are lost in sin because of you. Repent before God, repair the damages you have caused, and make yourself an apostle of good.
The corruptors of souls are the great strength of the demon. In the contemporary world, they occupy very significant and visible positions in various fields such as culture, science, politics or economics, including the realm of the mass media. They have learned the vernacular of flattery and lies from their teacher. Despising truth and exalting error, they disparage good and virtue while exalting evil and vice. They are the faithful servants of Satan, and they will go with him to his kingdom of death in recompense.

Watch out for such people, even if they are very close to you and united to you by bonds of affection. You show your worthiness as a human being by saying no to evil, even if the one who proposes it is most dear to you. If Adam had said no to Eve, he would have undoubtedly saved himself and perhaps even her. No human respect, no bond of friendship, no reason of human nature, nor any interest must ever cause you stay with anyone who proposes evil. It is much better to lose a friend or family member than to lose God for all of eternity.

Nevertheless, Adam took the fruit Eve offered him without argument, and he ate it. He blindly followed his wife, even when fell into the abyss. How many behave like this! Like leaves in the wind, they are dragged where the world wants, and Satan rejoices over the spoils obtained so cheaply. The law of the herd, public opinion polls, and social brainwashing dominate the modern world. You, however, must be very attentive to the voice of God.  Keep your conscience illuminated by the Church and never stray from her, no matter what others think, even if they are those whom you love the most.

From Disillusionment to Illusion**
When man commits evil, he is inevitably degraded. He then opens his eyes and all that before seemed beautiful and desirable, afterwards entirely loses its attractiveness. First evil attracts you, then it poisons you. From the illusion of obtaining much happiness follows both disillusionment and disappointment. Once the fruit was eaten “the eyes of both were opened.” Adam and Eve had deluded themselves into thinking that they could become “like God” but found themselves deprived of divinity and its gifts. The conscience begins to feel remorse. That God Whom you have driven from your heart by sinning does not abandon you. In His goodness He makes you hear His voice in the depths of your being. It is a voice that disapproves of the evil you have committed and at the same time is an invitation to return to the straight way.

Consider this great grace that opens the eyes after the satanic temptation. It is the moment in which, if you are honest with yourself, you realize that Satan has deceived you. With all that he has offered you he has succeeded in destroying your dignity, morality and your soul. He has given you something, but he himself has taken your heart. You, like Adam and Eve, realize your nakedness. You have been stripped of sanctifying grace and of the gifts of spiritual beauty and wisdom that adorned you: now you see yourself in your misery.

The disillusionment that comes after every sin, with the verification of the deception, the remorse of conscience, and the consciousness of the damages you have suffered, constitutes a moment of great grace, even though in the context of a spiritual catastrophe. After every sin, the Divine Wisdom opens our eyes so that we see the despicable face of evil. This always happens unless a person, persevering on the way of ruin, suffocates his conscience and hardens his heart.

Adam and Even, having realized the lie of the tempter and the existential catastrophe into which they had fallen, would have been able and should have cried out to God from the depths of their misery. The Creator in His goodness would have listened to them and would have come to their aid. So we, dear friend, have at the moment of the grace of disillusionment the possibility of a ready rehabilitation, if we turn humbly and contritely to that God Whom we have foolishly abandoned.

Unfortunately, this happens all too rarely. More often, man falls again into that satanic deception, desiring to try again the fruit which has proven to be so untrustworthy and poisonous. The disillusionment is followed by a new illusion, and this process continues, so that man enters into a deadly mechanism that crushes the soul, driving it to blindness and to total death.

Many men waste their lives following illusions which are followed immediately by disillusionment. “Every one who drinks of this water will thirst again,” declare Jesus (Jn 4:13). Only the mercy of God can break this satanic chain which renders us slaves, but you must cooperate with the grace which opens your eyes every time you do evil. Think of the last sin you committed.  Were you happy to place your trust in the demon? Didn’t you become disillusioned, saddened, and degraded? Why then do you wish to repeat the same experience, believing again and again the allurements of the tempter?

There may come a time in which, having sinned, your eyes are no longer opened. It is a very alarming signal, because it means [ou are entering the spiritual status of impenitence. This happens when you advance unperturbed along the way of perversion and our conscience is finally snuffed out completely. Then the worst crimes can be committed without your feeling remorse. How many souls move in this level of deep darkness, in which they have given their unconditional consent to Satan and to his kingdom of perdition! Only a great grace, with the awakening of conscience, could now save them.

Like Gill there are plenty of anti-christians in Europe and America. They believe that they are infallible and that they know about everything in the world >They think that all others are some kind of fools knowing very little of anything. They are intolerant of others’ views and faith.Any amount of conversation, argument advice will be of no use because they have preconceptions and the mind is kept closed. We do not attack them , we do not call names, we do not kill them because we are civilized and tolerant of others. We could abuse them, attack them and even kill them, but we do not do that because we are civilized, because we believe in Christianity that teaches us tom respect others

It’s quite obvious that the words the writer chose to use were completely cruel and unwarranted.  We should pray for him. I hope he accepts Mr. Condit’s invitation. Father Corapi’s conference in New York last summer was amazing and filled with the Holy Spirit! I know that anyone who attends will have a positive life changing experience !

Has anyone considered that these comments are a bit too silly?  Let me be the first (I think) to suggest that Mr. Gill is not a slanderer but a satirist.

“The Church has made more money off of humanity than any organization in the world with ‘theories’ like the Creation Museum and Father Corapi.”

Perhaps this is true that the Church has made more money off of humanity, as Gill states. But, as the Catholic Church is the largest charitable organization the world has ever known, the vast majority of that money has gone to helping the poor, curing the sick, providing for the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the imprisoned, feeding the hungry, etc.

So why, exactly, does Gill hate that?

Does the church dictate on what Gil spend his money? What business is it of his how the church spends it’s money. Why does Gil, an atheist, take such an active part in discussing church subject matter - something he has zero belief in and which to him is an absolute nothing? What is his point in doing such a thing?

To all:The only time you should start worry its when you are not been
insult or attack for proclaiming the true.We know dear Father your great
mission,we share the same Mother!Hail! Mary!.......Amen.

I propose a challenge for the Church (priest, religious, and laity alike); let us not only pray for those who don’t understand the meaning of Church (most use this to speak of the Vatican and the hierarchy), lets educate ourselves and those around us.  Lets use education, not as a form of conversion, but as a form to build bridges with those who criticize the the Church.  I’m a 28 year old whose catechesis was based on memorizing prayers, and by the grace of the Holy Spirit, he has called me educate young adults in my parish.  I’ve realized how little even the members of our Church know about it’s teachings.  Please lets take the challenge and responsibility so that others can learn about our faith and we can stop being attacked.  God bless!

Bravo, Mr. Condit.  Your reply was the perfect ‘comeback’ to someone whose accusations and insults are based on hearsay, ignorance, and grade-school propaganda.

In all honesty, I believe that Mr. Gill suffers from ‘modern-trend-itis’ which is the erroneous belief that one can gain notoriety and fame by insulting and demeaning an individual or group of individuals merely for the press coverage.  What is far more sad is this is not new, creative, or ingenious—it’s so Andrew Dice Clay, 1989.

I pray that the Holy Spirit moves Mr. Gill to accept your offer Mr. Condit.  We should all pray that the Holy Spirit helps us all develop our Catholic faith and education so that we may in turn teach others.  God Bless.

Thank you for all who’ve commented. My heart’s filled with love for all of the Church and Her defenders. May God continue to richly bless you. Flood the Heavens with prayers for the conversion of Mr. Gill’s soul, and all those just like him.

Nyah, nyah, nyah.  Wow, that’s really using your intellect to call him “Fr. Crappy.”  Brilliant. Just one response to that: “Sticks and stones will break our bones, but names will never hurt us…” Please, Gill, stick with restaurant reviews and go to the conference to get a glimpse of eternity.  You can make an intelligent decision about where to spend it.  I’ll pray for your conversion.

Your lashing out Mr. Gill makes me sad for you.  Pray for grace that you may find faith in something to make you more content with your life!

I would like to encourage all that read this to sincerely pray for Mr. Gill. Clearly, he doesn’t get it. Ranting about his narrow, hateful views will do nothing to change his heart, and will likely just bolster his beliefs. Only Christ’s love can heal him (or any of us!). So, I urge all to do as Christ would…(difficult though it may be) turn the other cheek, return hatered with compassion, and PRAY!
God love you all!

From Wikipedia:  “After St Christopher, he moved to London to study at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and the Slade School of Art. He is a recovered alcoholic who drank until the age of 30.[3]  Gill suffers from severe dyslexia and, consequently, all of his works are written by amanuenses.[4]

He was once ejected from one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants, along with his dining partner Joan Collins. Ramsay’s reason was that Gill had written a review of his restaurant that covered his personal life more than the food, including calling him a wonderful chef, but a “second-rate human being”.[5]

Gill has been critical of Welsh people; in 1998 his descriptions of Welsh people as “loquacious, dissemblers, immoral liars, stunted, bigoted, dark, ugly, pugnacious little trolls” in The Sunday Times were reported to the Commission for Racial Equality as racist.[6] Gill’s comment was used as a prime example of what was described as “persistent anti-Welsh racism in the UK media” in a motion in the National Assembly for Wales put forward by 18 AMs representing the four main political parties.[7]

Gill has also been critical of the English describing them as “embarrassing” and an “ugly race” as well as a “lumpen and louty, coarse, unsubtle, beady-eyed, beefy-bummed herd”.[8][9]

In October 2009, Gill sparked controversy by reporting in his Sunday Times column that he shot a baboon dead. His column averred that he knew “perfectly well there [was] absolutely no excuse for [the shooting]”, and that he killed the animal in order to “get a sense of what it might be like to kill someone”.[10][11] He went on to state that “[t]hey die hard, baboons. But not this one. A soft-nosed .357 blew his lungs out.”[11] The action prompted outrage from animal rights groups[11].

So AA goes to AA and hates lots of people and kills animals with 97% of our DNA…creepy…

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS TAKEN ITS LUMPS FOR YEARS AND ALWAYS SURVIVES. I WOULD NOT TAKE A.A.GILL TOO SERIOUSLY. HIS INSECURITY IS SHOWING. WHO KNOWS?? THE DEVIL SHOWS IN MANY DIFFERENT SHAPES AND FORMS, PERHAPS WE ARE SEEING ONE FORM, A A GILL SHOWS SEVERAL OF THE SEVEN CAPITAL SINS IE :PRIDE, HATE, VICIOUSNESS ETC. SO YOU FIGURE IT OUT, HE NEEDS HELP AND FORGIVENESS.  I HAVE WATCHED FATHER CORAPI SEVERAL TIMES ON EWTN AND HE IS TRYING TO GIVE US ALL A SECOND CHANCE ON EXAMINING OUR CONSCIENCES SO THAT WE WILL BE SAVED. HE CERTAINLY HAS PROVED THAT FORGIVENESS IS VAILABLE TO ALL OF US, EVEN A.A.GILL. THE BEST THIG WE COULD DO IS PRAY FOR A A GILL….THAT SHOULD GET HIM GOING :) PEACE. GOD BLESS FATHER CORAPI AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.  I AM ONE IN CHRIST!

Isn’t interesting that"modernists” so to speak, even as far back ss the 1500’s have the type of comments… “dark ages, neadrathal, etc. In St. Theresa of Avila ‘s day they said the same type of comments… get with it , keep up with the times. Also Socialist minded or “formed” minds always wants to accuse the Church of doing the thngs they do.

May God bless them both, Fr. Corapi with greater strength, courage, and perseverance, and Mr. Gill with humility, and a heart open and accepting to God’s Truth.  May they be Consecrated in The Truth!

It is sad to read comments like these. Fr. Corapi has touched many of us, the writer included, and because of him many of us have either returned to the Faith or, at the very least learned about it. But, as he says: When the day of our Lord’s coming takes place on what side will you be?

Mr. Gill’s schoolboy comments poking fun at the wax work depiction of “creation” would make a great Flannery O’Connor story.  However, his crude and baseless insults towards Christians and specifically to Fr. John Corapi make one wonder just what he is afraid of?  Grace?  Humility?  The Love of God?  Conversion?  God grant him these graces and more.

Mr. Gill’s comment” “Surely there is nothing ‘Fr. Crappy’ [referencing Fr. John Corapi] could possibly say that would affect me or the rest of humanity who, like me, have more than half a brain.” Judging by the passion in Mr. Gill’s words, apparently Fr. Corapi’s work and message have indeed DEEPLY affected Mr. Gill. If Mr. Gill is unaffected by Fr. Corapi and his words and work, why does Mr. Gill take the time to write so much about him? Writing about a person says that indeed that person is WORTH writing about.

Catholic bashing is obviously the last form of acceptable prejudice for Mr. Gill.  Just who is behind the times???

Mr.Gill’s comments are utterly reactionary and defensive…I agree with Lorraine G.; he seems jealous so lets pray for him to attend the conference…then he might not feel so crappy!

Obviously A.A.Gill is not familiar with the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, otherwise he would not have made that ridiculous statement that the Church should learn “how to use electronic devices”. The 31 March 2010 issue has a lengthy article (p.20) entitled “Digital Manuscripts”, describing a ten year venture for “the digitization of 80,000 manuscripts of the Vatican Library”. That will involve over 160 international experts. Perhaps someone should write a book The Vatican for Dummies for such mindsets as Gill’s.

Mr.Gill suffers from Progressivism…..He must have voted for Obama. Progressives hate Catholicism, so, he would hate Catholics especially one who attracts such a huge crowd…..more than his idol, Obama can attract.  Poor Gill, we will pray for him and his green eyes. If his food reviews are as tacky as his review of Father Corapi, he should be replaced. Father Corapi, you are loved more than you know because we all relate to you…..God bless you!

Texas is sooo jealous you are getting both Fr. Corapi and Fr. Eautenaur I would love to be able to attend. Pretty cool town in my opinion. Just ignore that goofus.

We love you Fr. Corapi!!  Texas doesn’t need to be jealous Ms. Mary; Fr. Corapi will be in San Antonio on August 7, 2010! www.fathercorapisa.com! And Fr. Corapi will be in DeKalb, IL (just West of Chicago) in March, 2011 www.ccrfd.org !!!  We are proud of you Cincinnati! Keep the Faith and the Truth!  Fr. Corapi is the best!!! God bless you!

Those who are living in the dark hate the Light.

I would go even farther for the confused soul who attacked Fr Corapi and offer him a $1000.00 incentive to go to the conference so he will have an excuse for his friends on why he really went..BUT he must stay for entire conference and offer his comments immediately following to the press! I dare you dufus!

I would like to commend Mr. Conit for his generosity and charity towards Mr. Gill. We must all remember that our Christian Faith is a “Gift” from God and all of us are on different paths towards Him. It is unfortunate that Mr. Gill is disillusioned to beleive that Christianity is in opposition to God when He created all things including science.

Let us all pray for Mr. Gill that God will open his heart in someway to the truth. I will personally volunteer to pick him up from the airport and be his host if he decides to attend the conference if this in any way is of service to Father Coropi and Mr. Condit.

Mr. Gill’s article is exactly why Vanity Fair is loosing readers in droves.

mr. Gill please come to the conference and see for your self what this is all about. i will be there. hope to see you there.

Mr. Gill, no one is imposing any agenda on you.  You show total ignorance in what the Catholic Church is about.  It will do you good to attend the Cincinnati conference and hear Fr. Corapi, maybe you will learn a thing or two.  Before you go making a public !@#$% of yourself with stupid comments like this, it will serve you better to get educated and be able to make some intelligent reports.

Mr. Gill deals in personal attacks. No truth, no facts, just ridicule. But God bless him, Christ thought his life worth saving for eternity. Advice:Read the New Testament The witnesses to Jesus’ appearances after the Resurrection are numerous and compelling. Read and ponder. You will become a philosopher!

Father Corapi is so above even being concerned about what Mr. Gill has to say, other than to keep him in his prayers, as I’m sure Father does with secular society, in general.  Furthermore, it is so obvious that this Mr. Gill person is afraid of something; I think he’s “dangerously” close to being the next guest on EWTN’s “The Journey Home…”  I’ll, certainly, pray that he sees the light!

Ignore AA Gill and his ilk. They usually go back into the woodwork from whence they came. Be sure to pray for them also, maybe his conversion story will be as spiritually uplifting as Father Corapi’s.

I am 75 and 70% of my parish (in England) cannot wait until Monday evening to hear Father Corapi’s latest views.  Something we have been short of for a long time.  We have gone soft on permissiveness, divorce, abortion, we need a leader, a realy good Preacher to drive good thoughts home. I have 6 children, 13 grandchildren,2 nearly 3 greatgrandchildren.  I pray they grow up in a morally better world. Long live Father John Corapi. Who is Gill—the author—here in England that means half a pint.  Does that go with half a brain…I wonder? The parish isnt ALL oldies, by the way, many are young or middle aged 40-50. Love and God bless to all, who hear God’s word…... especially Father C…....JMK

Never heard of this author “GILL”—here (in England) that means half a pint, this could meaN he also has half a brain and he doesnt know it.  At 75—myself—and most of the congregation at Church (St. Teresa’s Cleveleys, lancs.) MANY MIDDLE-AGED not all “oldies” cannot wait until Monday evening 9.00om (our time) to listen to his latest word.  Wake up for goodness sake—yes for God’s goodness—-can you not see we have a real leader in Father, something the world has been lacking for many years.  We have all gone too soft and afraid of talking about issues as they are, we weaken everything, so even the permissive, divorced, etc, etc, think they have done no wrong and I could go on about abortion, I had 6 children-now 13grandchildren and 2 nearly 3 great grandchildren. JMK

Fr. Corapi was in St. Louis this past weekend and I wish I could get to Cincinnati to see him again!!  We as Catholics forgive Mr. Gill’s comments, we don’t know what is in his heart, we’ll leave that to Jesus to decern.

Just know Cincinnati that it was a great conference filled with the Holy Spirit, so look forward to it and enjoy it!

God Bless you all…..Phil

I live in the cinnati archdiocese.IT has a great history about the Irish and German imigrants that built the arch diocese up.Its first Bishops are very well known during that time period of the growth of the Church in America.I am very excited about Father Corapis visit.I hope that the represenitives from all 5 diocese in ohio espscialy the religious attend this talk for those who cannot attend I wish will put a dvd of the talk on his book store. As for a debate with the liberal pro choice Cthaolics or non Catholics would reflect how the Bishops have not come out with what they think is a consensus of the Social Teachings of the church are or should be and why up to this important time for Catholics of the 21st century of which shows no unity of theBishops in their interpatation of the SOCIAL TEACHING of Catholic Church.

What strikes me about the statements of A.A. Gill is what Fr. Corapi said about the time he was preaching about abortion and a woman in the audience literally started shrieking and screaming at him.  Later, he talked to her, and you guessed it- she was suffering after having had an abortion herself and went to confession.  This guy is shrieking and screaming at Cincinnati and Fr. Corapi, probably because Fr. C’s message hits a little close to home and Cincinnati’s traditional background probably hits the same nerve.  I think we should feel sorry for Gill and pray for him.

When you see secular commentary so emotionally upset by a sacred event, you know it is a battle of “truth vs. deception”.  Unfortunately, most of this kind of rhetoric only polarizes rather that bring us together.  Mr. Condit’s reaction was both appropriate and loving.  He makes me proud and happy to call myself a Christian.

Mr. Gill needs to stick to the memu and leave the soul to God’s chosen one Fr. Corapi.  He sounds like a very unkind person who could use a hug.  Those who know nothing in regards to christianity know even less about charity.  They believe the soul, if they even think they have one, is strickly their creation.  Unfortunately, the evil one has their number, and in time will be SOUL ownner for eternity.
I live and love to pray for the conversion of such a person.

In His Loving Hands I Pray

Margaret

Well Said Margaret, My thoughts exactly.  We should be praying not slaying for those who “need hugs”.  Pray for conversion of souls.  By slaying others we are buying into the evil ones plan. I cannot wait to hear Fr. Corapi in Cincinnati!!!!

i can understand how people feel about different opinions.
but i don’t think their is any need to put such words as insulting a fr of god by saying father crappy.
that is being a bit blassemy towards gods workers in the church of kingdom for him in helping people to believe and have faith in god and eacg other.lets respect gods people aye.it don’t cost us anything.just respect thats all. fr donald thomas. australia

I love Fr. Corapi!!! Remember, there are people out there who wave free speech banners except when people like Corapi speak the truth and are counter cultural then people get all psycho like this writer.

I have had the pleasure of hearing Father Corapi years ago and his message is one you are hard pressed to forget or not be affected by. The man is an example of a modern day saint if you ask me. He puts you in the mind of St. Augustine or St. Francis. Two saints who lived some very questionable lives. Then they were touched by God in a manner that brought not only them to God but those who heard and have since heard their message through the ages. What Father Corapi has to say will be remember centuries after he is gone. This Gill person won’t even be a blip on the radar of humanity.

What reason would you have to be so mean and unkind, not to mention ill informed about a man and a city.  Are you worried?  You certainly have the free will to stay away and go to those enlightened places like Washington? California? New York?  Gee, they seem to be doing so much better than us.
God bless Fr. Corapi and his work.  We need millions more like him.
Can’t wait for July 17.  Let God’s graces shine on Cincinnati (No Ky too)

Cincinnati is home to some of the greatest scientists, performers, and entrepeneurs in the country. But, we are intelligent but humble enough to recognize a true man of God when we see him. We know that he will impart God’s Wisdom and blessings upon us; and we welcome him with open arms.

here from nj i’m figuring i can get to cincinnati from indy easily. what joy to find fr. corapi only 100mi from here! mr. gill is unhappy because he is SHOCKED to find religion alive and well in our country, despite his feelings. mr. gill come on, come to the conference. it’s free for you!

Mr. Condit has the right approach.  If Mr. Gill doesn’t like Fr. Corapi’s message, fine.  However, cheap shots won’t make Mr. Gills message more valid.  I just hope that Gill takes Condit up on his offer and listens to a message from beginning to end.

I am a Baptist and I love watching Fr. Corapi on EWTN (and Mother Angelica) The truth is the truth no matter who says it and Fr. Corapi speaks the truth.Mr. Gill is to be pitied not feared for his demented ravings against anyone he doen’t agree with and obviously knows nothing about. The part about him shooting a baboon shows his total lack of humanity and morality. Pray is his only hope.

Remember… Christ forgave his exectioners, as I am reasonably sure that Father Corapi will forgive Mr. Gills’
outlandish remarks.
We live in this world, but are not of it.
May we keep our eyes and hearts focused on Christ.
This kind of rhetoric only serves Mr. Gills’ ego
Vivat Jesu
