We just got back from vacation. My wife and I drove from Long Island to Florida with our five kids in our minivan. Yeah.
Ostensibly, we made the trip to visit my brother and his family who live just north of Tampa. But of course, since we were down there, we had to go to Disney. I think it is a law.
But before we get there, lets talk a little about the ride down. No, I am not going to tell you about the blood-curdling screams from the back “His arm touched me!!” and the “Hey, that’s mine!! Give it back! Mooooooommmmmmm!!”
No, that is another post.
What I want to talk about is the hushed tones in the car. My wife and I spoke in hushed tones much of the way down. You see, we spoke softly because we were discussing politics. It was a long trip and there is so much going on. We talked about the current multi-front war on the Catholic Church going on in this country. We talked about the nomination process. We talked about lots o’ stuff like that and we did it all in hushed tones.
We speak in hushed tones because we don’t want the kids to hear, especially the younger ones. We feel that some of them are too young to understand the reality of it all and to put it in its proper context. So we insulate them from such discussions.
Cut to Disney. After a long and fun-filled day at the park, the family made our way back to the parking area. At the parking pavilion, you can get on one of two sets of buses to two different lots. The heroes lot or the villains lot. We were in the heroes lot. One of my children, the eight year old boy, asked what the villain lot meant. I explained to him that the parking areas were named after Disney villains, the bad guys in movies.
So my eight year old and six year old boys got into a deep discussion trying to name as many Disney villains as they could. The evil witch from Snow White, James Hook from Peter Pan, etc. Back and forth they went naming villains. After a while the names came more slowly because they really had to think about it. And just when I thought the conversation was over, my eight year old said “Lotso! Toy Story 3 is a Disney movie, right dad?”
“Yes, it is Pixar which is Disney owned. So yes, Lotso counts.”
My six year old did not like the 8 year old getting the final word on this little contest and I could see his wheels turning. And then he smiled.
“I have one. Barack Obama. He was in the Hall of Presidents, so that makes him a Disney character and he does evil so that makes him a villain! Right, Dad?”
So, as you can see, those hushed tones are working very well.

<3 Wise kiddo!
Been there! (Not Disney, but hushed tones:)
In fact, we had to have the conversation with the kids about being careful about what they say at school. “He’s not evil - he just does evil things.”
Priceless. Well done:).
Intuitive little stinkers, aren’t they? BTW. just wondering, does it bother anybody else that Disneyland calls itself the “happiest place on Earth”. I don’t know why that appalls me so much.
Just this morning I was reminded that when you think they aren’t listening, they are! I turned on the radio on the way back from the grocery store. Someone was explaining why Nancy Pelosi’s repetition of the 98% of Catholic women use contraception spiel was just false. My 4-year old heard the phrase “not want to be pregnant,” and said, “Not want to be pregnant? Being pregnant is a blessing!”
Warmed my heart! And totally reminded me they hear all!
Their honesty, and forthrightness can also get a bit awkward. No heroes or villains on this one, just my red face: My second grader took it upon himself to “evangelize” a Jewish boy in his class. He informed me of this a couple of weekends ago, right before my husband took him to the boy’s birthday party, and shook hands with his Dad. I couldn’t help but chuckle when he earnestly told me: “Joseph’s family doesn’t believe in God, but I convinced him that Jesus is really God!” God love him. He couldn’t understand why we were embarrassed. Lol
Wow, is that disgusting. President Obama is the most moral man we have had in the White House since Carter. He is doing his best to build a just society and help the least among us. But you will shamelessly brag about brainwashing your children to be a narrow minded, unthinking parrot like yourself.
Perhaps you would like him better if he abandoned a sick wife or two, or commited a felony to protect a group of pedophiles.

@Rick: Carter sold America’s sovereignty to the Tri-Lateral Commission before he was inaugurated. Obama is selling our sovereignty to the United Nations and one world government under the world bank NICE. What’s a little treason? How did you escape being aborted?
Rick-About 3800 little voices in anguish every day disagree with you. guy mcclung, rockport, texas
Wow, Rick. The most moral man in the White House? I kept waiting for you to say you were being sarcastic.
@Rick, lol. Even in ultra liberal San Francisco, for the past two years they have been quietly peeling those Obama bumper stickers from their sporty, foreign, fuel efficient cars.
Out of the mouth of babes…
Co’mon, Rick, give us ONE moral thing Obama has done. Just one!
Unlike his brother-in-liberal-spirit President Carter, Obama fears no God, and wants only to elevate himself and his socialist agenda. Carter really was a good, decent MAN, he was just an AWFUL president.
In 1980, I was convinved I would not live to see another man in the White House who tried so hard to destroy this country. I was wrong!
Whatever happened to “children,”? You drove with your “kids,” from Long Island to Florida. Whatever happenbed to children?
Rick, can you name one good thing that Obama has done while in office, let alone one moral thing. He prayed with the Muslims and ignored the Christian’s Day of Prayer. He struck down the law G.W.Bush had put into action that banned “late term abortions”. He lied about knowing certain unethical acquaintances and then the press showed pictures of him consorting with them. The list could go on and on. Get your head out of the sand.
I prefer to think of Barack Obama, and anyone else who puts himself between us and God by his actions, like Rameses in “The Prince of Egypt.” Although the antagonist, Rameses did not stop being sympathetic for all that, and Moses did not stop loving him, and trying to reason with him, trying to remind him of how they were brothers. And just like Moses, I wasn’t able to be completely happy at the end even though God’s will was done and the Hebrews were free, because it came at such a high cost, and Rameses—even if by his own choices—could not share in it. Let’s not forget that Rameses had negative influences that were partly responsible for shaping his decisions. The real enemy is Satan, and we must not forget that—he tries to divide us against each other. It may well take a miracle for Obama to repent, I hope it won’t take that desperate a measure, but the fact that he is still alive means that such a possibility exists—don’t forget, Saul of Tarsus persecuted the Church more directly, and look what happened to him.
Rick,
What you don’t understand is that you can accomplish things and have “accomplishments” without being moral. Yesterday, I accomplished the cleaning of my bedroom. Which is good, but has nothing to do with being moral. I also “accomplished” amount of homework in my spanish class….. which was immoral. It was immoral because I had it assigned a week ago. I was supposed to be working with my partner, but didn’t bother to answer her mesages. I didn’t write much on the script till I saw that she had done a good amount and was guilted into finnishing it and editing it together. I didn’t offer an ounce of my time to practicing the script. I may have done something I “good” but I messed up in a big way by not doing it to the fullest of my abillity AND THAT WAS IMMORAL BECAUSE IT WAS INCONSIDERATE OF MY PARTNER. Some of those things you listed are good, but who cares about a Justices’ latina nationality when she is a terrible Judge? How can it be good to increase stem cell research funds when you cut the funds to a stem cell program producing good results and where the donors are consenting adults to send it to a program that breeds then KILLS unborn children and has comparitively little benifits? How can you applaud a man for ending a Media blackout on something then effectivly tells his opponents to shut up? Who even goes as far as to CENCOR Archbishop of the Milirary, Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, when he wrote a pastoral letter to his troops? Telling the army they were not allowed to read the letter? How can you praise a man who’s idea of healthcare reform is to force Catholic institutions to PAY FOR THINGS that VIOLATE THEIR CORE BELIEFS? I could go on and on, but I have work to be doing, desperatly trying to prepare for an oral presentation that I “accomplished” the homework for, but still did an imoral job on. It dosent matter if a man pulled the cripple out of the puddle if his next move is to toss him off a cliff. Rick I don’t know why you bother coming here if you don’t want to locically consider what the writers here have to say, or even what you say to them.
Ricks list is a list of twisted words, not meant to be truthful, but meant for deceit.
There are too many to refute logically, but that list is quite the joke.

As my father would say, “Little jugs have big ears.”

As for Rick…wow. LOL. Nice cut and paste job. I bet Renae is sorry she asked; I know I didn’t bother reading that whole thing. But come to think of it, I remember seeing similar lists regarding GWB when he was in office.
I’ll say one other thing: my dad has been faithful to his one and only wife of 30 years. Last I checked, he was not a candidate for the Nobel. Good for Barack, but it doesn’t make him THAT special.
Having glanced cursorily over the list (my head hurts from Rick’s poor combox etiquette), a lot of it just doesn’t scratch where it itches. A lot of “That’s nice, but why does it matter here?” Remember your target audience, Catholic readers on a Catholic blog. I think most of us are pretty neutral on high schools having DSL. Other items are arguably things that he cannot take all the credit for, or even run negative.
Pat Archbold, I see you’ve earned adding the title Master of Reverse Psychology to your c.v.
What other Secret Dad Powers do you have?
How can anyone who would help kill their own grandchild be praised. All these people who support Obama, claim to be for the rights of others and would fight against Slavery and Concentration Camps and cruelty to prisoners of war. However, if that was true, then they could never be for abortion, because of all mentioned abortion is the worst because with abortion there is no next generation whereas we know people survived slavery and concentration camps and even cruelty to war criminals. We hear from them all the time. If you think stripping a terrorist or hitting them again and again with water is horrible, then how could you agree to sucking out a baby’s brains with a vacuum, or cutting off the arms and legs and then selling them to be used for research. The baby’s heart beat is heard after 18 days and sorry if left alone in the mother’s womb it will grow into a human person, not a tree or plant. Do some research on abortion, the damage it does not only to the baby, but to women, men, siblings, families who have been touched by abortion in any way.
