Craven For the Cure: Komen Caves To Pro-Abort Pressure

It was nice while it lasted, all of four days.  A very well known charity dropped support for the abortion industry.  Yay. Pro-lifers cheer and donate money in record amounts (purportedly doubling donations after the announcement).

Cue the MSM and Planned Parenthood owned politician outrage and the the well known charity reverses course. Four measly days!  Hey guess what, donating breast cancer money to a company that causes breast cancer and does not perform mammograms is a really good idea after all.

This is the height of politically correct groveling.

Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer . Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.

This is one of the most politically craven public acts I have ever seen.  Four days of pressure.  Donations were up, but alas, we want to be popular too!

I dare them to say how this will help women suffering from breast cancer.  I for one have never donated to them.  I considered it the other day but didn’t because they are not a well run charity.  I am so glad I didn’t.

Now, if Komen does not immediately return the money of anyone who donated in the last four days, I think that the organization that should be under criminal investigation is Komen.  Then I will donate my money to finding a cure for cowardice.

Update: Some have tried to suggest that Komen’s statement is nuanced and does not necessarily mean what almost everyone thinks it means.  Hogwash. Bottom line.  4 days ago PP was ineligible for future grants, now they are eligible, with apologies.  Will PP get future grants from Komen? Almost certainly.  If it looks like a cave, deep, dark, and cold.  It is probably a cave.

This is outrageous. My opinion of them has been lowered even further, which I didn’t think was possible. They definitely need to refund anyone who made those donations. That was extremely dishonest and deceitful.

READ AMERICAN PAPIST.  They have NOT caved in.  They are asking for some space from the jihadist beheading they’re getting from Planned Parenthood.  READ what they said.  THEY HAVE NOT CAVED IN.  Nothing has changed.

This partnership is so unbelievably dumb.  Whats next the American Lung Association partnering with Philip Morris (aka Big Tobacco).

I thought that they’re just continuing some already-promised money for mammograms to five clinics throughout 2012.  This needs to be clarified before everybody goes apeland.

I, for one, am glad I donated a small one-time donation. It was a clear “vote” for not funding evil. They may never get another dime from me, but the message was there in $$ which is all these companies can understand.

Not so fast, Patrick. Komen changed their criteria so that they could focus on their mission. As much as we’d love for them to decry abortion, their mission is to end breast cancer. In an effort to maintain their position as a leading charity on breast cancer, they’re trying to remain as apolitical as possible…in my opinion, a smart move given how political motivation fuels so much hatred in our culture. Komen’s apology was an apology regarding the way they handled the situation, not an apology to Planned Parenthood. The MSM has been horrendous in their reporting of this situation.

Let us be clear, as pro-lifers we should take the high road and continue to support Komen. Hold off monetarily if you wish, but at least express desire that they actually mean what they say. They have said institutions found in criminal and conclusive investigations will not be eligible for funds. And on MSNBC yesterday, Brinker interrupted Andrea Mitchell to clarify that PP does have several state investigations going on right now. They’re trying to keep support on both sides of the aisle to focus on breast cancer and not abortion…that’s their mission, can we respect them for that?

they didn’t technically change their position. Their ceo is clearly a pro-lifer. Given that they announced, publically, four days ago to stop funding the machine, she must be taking a lot of flak. I have been on Komen for more than a year and am incredibly grateful to hear that they have taken some steps toward ending thier alliance. However, I would never have sent a dime when they stated four days ago that they were honoring previous commitments. No money for abortion…not another dime. But praise for stepping the right way. PP is an evil and old enterprise with long arms in government and business. Komen, and we all, need to step carefully. The devil does not move out easily. Pray for protection. Prayer, fasting, and eucharistic adoration…

The outcome was never in doubt pro abortion people put up the money. There was very little open support for Komen’s initial decision. Pro life people need to learn a lesson from this. You have to prop up the backbone of any organization that makes a significant pro life decision that is controversial. That means also that pro ife people will have to put up money to match the financial support of the pro abortion groups.

There are other ways to support breast cancer research.  There are other organizations to support.  Komen will not be getting a dime from me (and haven’t been).  On the other hand, as I’ve read elsewhere, look at exactly what they have said—-they will not fund organizations found guilty in criminal investigations.  P.P. is currently being investigated for criminal allegations.  Is this another way out for them in the future?

We all know this is a ploy for some cause.  Komen should return all funds requested or criminally investigate. But investigations by the current admin would be worthless.  Now, if Komen changes rules so that no funding is used for abortions and provides field data and women into BC treatments there maybe a silver lining.  Until accountable trust is in place, no $.  I am watching as actions speak louder than words.  I wonder, was this a ploy to drain funds from Prolife folks? If so, jail time and loss of tax status should be immediate.

Don’t be so sure you are not giving to the Komen Foundation - every time you see one of their pink ribbons, part of your purchase price is going to them.

I almost donated as well - I sent Komen an email thanking them and when I got to the screen for donating, they did not take Discover, so I closed out and was going to do it this weekend.  I’m SO HAPPY that I didn’t.  Don’t buy Yoplait or Pepsi products either; Doritos, Lays, etc. as they are all in support of Komen/PP…..This is an outrage but doesn’t surprise me…..after all, why not support PP who provide abortions and keeps Komen’s name out there and gets people to go on three-day walks, etc. raising money because of all the women who may have developed this cancer due to a previous abortion (or more).  I wonder how much they really do want breast cancer to be a thing of the past when they support this organization.

I am a nine-year survivor, and had donated to Komen and participated in the Denver Race for the Cure in the past. Today I asked to be removed from all their contact lists, and will neither donate nor promote their fundraising. Disgraceful, and heartbreaking. They apparently don’t get that Planned Parenthood destroys pre-born girls.

I’ve avoided all the pink ribbons and all the “Walks”.  And when they ask at the grocery stores…Just say no.

WELL, there goes anything pink I would have purchased!
Maybe yellow should be their new color!

They must have had a good reason not to back them, that took a lot of guts.
So what changed?
Isn’t it a shame to loose your back bone!

Cowards they are.

This is one of the big scams of our day. PP and their products and services are linked strongly to women’s cancer. The anxiety of women’s cancer is the engine that drives SG Komen’s fundraising, which then gives money to PP. It is a complete circle of ... well a money trail.

Now that the story is getting out. Their days are numbered. The truth will eventually prevail.

Donation refund anyone???????

Yes please clear this up - as far as I can tell they did not change their decision.

ABSOLUTELY!!  Get your money back—since they are so AFRAID of PLANNED PARENTHOOD.
I am tired of reading about people (Cardinal George for instance) that stand up and blow hot air then
cave to the gays are the baby killers. How TIRESOME!! I hope everyone takes their financial support back
(100 % increase in donations)  and I am not going to write in support to anyone until I see them stick to their word.

I am so upset that Komen gave in to those Planned Parenthood people. Tell what in the world do they do to prevent Cancer (NOTHING)!

Don’t be taken in by the promise that grants from Komen to PP only go to promote the battle against breast cancer. Every dollar donated to PP via Komen frees up annother dollar to be used to abort the most vulnerable in society.

So Komen’s mission is to find a cure for breast cancer.  I guess they will have to ignore the recent medical evidence that abortions may be a direct link to breast cancer.  They are a disgraceful organization as well as a poorly run charity.  Don’t fund them and do not volunteer for the pink runs.

Given what has happened in the last 4 days do we have any reason to believe that the PP investigation will go anywhere? in an election year?
More likely it will be a cursive review with all being swept under the rug ....our politicians will cave to political pressure every time. Nance
Pelosi, our devout Catholic, is prime example how this political pressure works within the church. No wonder our Prez is not afraid of the USCCB!

I thank God that Susan G. Komen Foundation has now confirmed that it is PRO-DEATH.  Their PINK RIBBONS have baby blood dripping from them.  Now, we can BOYCOTT Susan G. Komen Foundation with a clear conscience.  There are OTHER organizations that work for a cure to breast cancer that do not murder babies as a side activity.  American Life League will happily provide you with names. http://www.all.org/

Why would any breast cancer research funds be given to an entity such as Planned Parenthood which freely distributes birth control pills containing the very hormones which are most likely responsible for the scourge of breast cancer we see today?????

Has anyone even thought about asking some important questions like: What age range of women/girls utilize services at PPH? What percentage of these numbers are over the age of 40, when a baseline mamogram should be performed? How many actual mamograms have been performed each year by PPH? How many of the PPH facilities actually have the equipment to perform the mamogram?  These are fiscally sound questions to ask when supporting a group through generous donation and good faith. How many of the babies that have been murdered were girls, potential women? - Isn’t the whole basis of the Komen foundation to save lives of women? Don’t roll over and feel sorry for the Komen Foundation - they did not do their due diligence, but rather payed the strong arm as to be left alone and demonstrated pure cowardice. Something Susan Komen did not.
There is a very strong correlation between abortion and the use of oral contraceptives to increased breast cancer risk - and it is happening to younger and younger women. It may seem like a tangent, but shouldn’t this also be under the same scrutiny and witch hunt as smokers or overweight people are, for increasing the cost of medical insurance? Or is it O.K. to just cherry pick? It is all related.

Add ” Yellow ” to your boycott list. Livestrong just announced it will be giving $100,000 to PP. Guess they are not concerned with their funds getting misappropriated. On the bright side,  with all the media attention on this story, the true PP supporters are coming out into the open so all Pro-Lifers can clearly see which companies NOT to support!

The statement doesn’t say that Planned Parenthood is elligible to receive grants, it says they are eligible to APPLY for grants. Komen will “preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants.” Just because PP can apply, it doesn’t mean they will actually receive grants. Komen’s statement is very carefully worded and requires close reading. I think they are wisely trying to diffuse the situation, while not actually committing to continue funding PP. We will just have to wait and see. And pray!

In September the HHS pulled funding from the USCCB work with victims of sex slavery and trafficking, even though they had the highest score on effectiveness.
Well now, where are the 27 senators threatening the HHS and when is the HHS going to restore the grant and apologize to the Catholic Church?
It is only the demonic that instigates such contradictions and division.

the flip flop is the reaction of a spineless and greedy corporation that only looks at the dollar and whose ethics are of the relativistic variety. I am not surprised, and hope that all the congratulatory , and pro life donations given can be recovered. Its a lesson to not jump in with ones wallet, before there has been more than a brief announcement in the papers . I am sure Planned Parenthood are very pleased with the result.

I was ready to not have to avoid products with the pink ribbons and buy pink items. Well, that went out the window right quick. I hope there is a reversal of the reversal so I can buy pink products without having to worry about boycotting.

Let us follow the ‘hatred’ line…PRO LIFERS don’t hate PRO CHOICERS, but many PRO CHOICERS hate PRO LIFERS because PRO LIFERS are seeking to protect THE CHOICE of the unborn…!!!

Strange, very few people agreed with me for the past few days as I tried to warn everyone to reread their first statement & now, there are too many pro-lifers with egg on their faces. Until the people at Komens will wake up & see the connection with the pill and/or abortions & breast cancer, they will stay in bed with Hitler/Sangers “planned parenthood” & breast cancer will keep getting worse as now, men are getting it at a much too high rate (the pills poison gets into our water supply from women eliminating either into the john or right into the bodies of water as they swim, etc.. Sorry MEG, but pro-lifers should never support Komen in any way except in their prayers for their conversion & salvation.  +JMJ+

FYI - go to Life Decisions International at www.fightpp.org and get their BOYCOTT LIST of companies & organizations that support Planned Parenthood. What an eye opener!!!

Taxpayer Funding — http://www.factcheck.org/2011/04/planned-parenthood/

Planned Parenthood’s 2008-2009 annual report states that it received $363.2 million in “Government Grants and Contracts.” (See page 29.) That’s about one-third of its total revenues for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.

However, not all of that money is from the federal government. Planned Parenthood’s government funding comes from two sources: the Title X Family Planning Program and Medicaid. About $70 million is Title X funding, Planned Parenthood spokesman Tait Sye told us. The rest — about $293 million — is Medicaid funding, which includes both federal and state money.

LET’S SHUT THIS MONSTER DOWN.

Every abortion in America kills another American.

I’m not surprised that Susan Komen Foundation did this turn around and so quickly. Not surprised just too tragic and pathic for them! Yes let’s shut all these anti life places down!
