Cardinal O'Malley (CNS)
Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston has insisted that his archdiocese’s Catholic hospitals will not be involved in any way in the provision of abortions.
As the Daily Blog reported here, the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts said in a June 8 press release that Caritas Christi, the network of six Catholic hospitals affiliated with the Archdiocese of Boston, will be involved in providing abortions as a result of its upcoming involvement in Celticare Health Plan of Massachusetts.
The health plan is a joint venture between Celtic Group, a subsidiary of Centene Corporation, and Caritas Christi Health Care.
But Cardinal O’Malley said in a statement that Caritas Christi Health Care won’t perform abortions or make abortion referrals, Associated Press reported yesterday.
According to Associated Press, “O’Malley said all health care services provided by Caritas Christi hospitals will remain in line with Catholic teaching, which opposes abortion.”
