Blessed Frances Xavier Seelos

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Archdiocese of Baltimore is initiating an investigation of a possible miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos.

Blessed Francis Seelos, a 19th-century Redemptorist priest who was born in Germany in 1819 and was ordained a priest in Baltimore in 1844 a year after he came to the United States to minister to German-speaking immigrants, was beatified in 2000.

The archdiocesan investigation involves the remarkable recovery of Annapolis, Md., resident Mary Ellen Heibel in 2005 from cancer that had spread to her lungs, liver, stomach and chest, after she prayed to Blessed Francis for help.
