“Not one more taxpayer dollar should go to Planned Parenthood and I intend to make that goal a reality.” -Rand Paul
Rand Paul is not sounding an uncertain trumpet here and even introduced an amendment to a highway bill to cut $500 million in taxpayer funding that annually is sent to Planned Parenthood. I like it.
Representative Diane Black introduced a bill for an immediate moratorium on all federal funding to Planned Parenthood for one year while Congress investigates the group in light of videos from the Center for Medical Progress which shows the abortion giant haggling over the cost of fetal body parts. Gov. Chris Christie vowed that if he's elected president he too will defund Planned Parenthood. There's no denying it, those videos from the Center for Medical Progress has given some momentum to pro-lifers in their push to get Planned Parenthood defunded.
You want more evidence? Please recall a few years ago when Susan G. Komen attempted to pull funding from Planned Parenthood. There was outrage from the media, Democrats, and even the White House; so much so that they relented and reinstituted the funding. Well, things have changed. Just this week, the Daily Signal reports that representatives from Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Co. and Xerox have asked Planned Parenthood to remove their names as corporate donors to the abortion giant.
There's been no attack from the media. Nothing from the White House. And not even recriminations from Planned Parenthood itself. Things have changed folks. Mind you, the defunding of Planned Parenthood will be an uphill climb. You know that there's no way Obama would ever agree to this. No matter what. Abortion is THE most important thing in the world to Democrats. Please recall, Obama could've passed Obamacare a year earlier than he did but he wouldn't because it would've restricted abortion funding. So yes, funding abortion was even more important than Obamacare to Obama. In 2011, Indiana attempted to prevent Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funding. Other states quickly followed suit but the Obama administration made clear that those states would simply not receive federal funding for Medicaid. Think about that for a second. The Obama administration would sooner refuse funding for poor people's healthcare than not give money to Planned Parenthood.
I spoke to Kristina Twitty, the Director of Operations at the Georgia Life Alliance, who is a friend and a great advocate for the cause of life. She said that these videos put the issue of funding Planned Parenthood at the froefront and that they don't allow politicians to hide behind politics anymore. But more importantly the impact of these videos "goes way beyond politics."
These videos are a very sad reality to be faced with - not only for our nation which has allowed this stain our name, but more importantly for the men and women who have lost children to the lie. Abortion providers have marketed their services to us for decades. No one can say it is "just a blob of tissue" anymore. None can deny the precious humanity of these tiny children any more than we can deny the precious humanity of Jews and slaves. Just as laws changed to protect the slaves in the time of Wilberforce, the law of the US must change and I believe will changes with the momentum of truth these videos have provided.
I am not the first one to say this... the benefit to humanity of a baby's organs are because they are human beings. We all know that. Planned Parenthood knows that. Just because the Supreme Court said abortion was legal, didn't make it right. We have a nation full of broken men and women who have lost children to that lie. The question now is, are we a big enough people to admit that we've been fooled and change our direction, personally and politically, and are we human enough to love those who have been left broken by the lie? The prolife community must continue to take the lead, continue to speak the truth and serve our neighbors, including the tiniest of these...
These videos may act as a political catalyst but more importantly we should pray that they act as the moment where we, as a culture, confront the fact that abortion not only dehumanizes the unborn but all of us.
