We have been told that anti-transgender nutjobs won the day in Houston by running a fear mongering campaign that distorted the truth. We were told that a commercial showing a man in a girl's bathroom was a misleading scare tactic. These accusations have been promoted as truth in much of the mainstream media coverage. However, receiving significantly less coverage is the fact that the Obama administration is pushing for a high school boy (who says he's a girl but still reportedly has all the boy parts) to shower and change in the same locker room as the girls. In fact, the Obama administration is so vehement that this must happen that they are actually threatening pulling federal funding from a school district in Illinois for refusing.

I'll give you the back story here. A young man who insists he's a girl filed a complaint with the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR)against Township High School District 211 in Palatine, Ilinois because he was upset that he wasn't been allowed to change and shower with the girls after swim class or after basketball practice.

To be clear, the school district has bent over backwards to accommodate the young man. He is called the girl name he calls himself by teachers and aministrators and allowed to play on the girl's basketball team. But the girls on the team didn't feel comfortable showering and changing with him so they asked him to change and shower in his own private bathroom and changing areas. But he felt excluded. I don't mock his feelings. Understandably, this young man is very confused and probably feeling very isolated. These are very real feelings. But aren't the girls who feel uncomfortable with this also understandably uncomfortable?

So the school district actually allowed him into the girls locker room but asked him to change behind a curtain. But even that wasn't good enough. The OCR investigated the complaint and recommended...more curtains! Yup. That was their ingenious response. While the young man has been asked by the district to change in a curtained off area, now the federal government is saying that hey, if the girls are uncomfortable that's their problem and they should go behind a curtain to change. They said the young man should be allowed into the girl's locker room.

After many parent's complaints, the school district refused to comply with the OCR. Now, the federal OCR is lowering the boom with a radical ultimatum: Do what we say within one month or you risk losing $6 MILLION in federal funding. That's right, the Obama administration would pull federal funding from a school district in order to force a school to allow a boy to shower with girls.

“All students deserve the opportunity to participate equally in school programs and activities — this is a basic civil right,” Catherine Lhamon, the Education Department’s assistant secretary for civil rights, said in a statement to the New York Times. “Unfortunately, Township High School District 211 is not following the law because the district continues to deny a female student the right to use the girls’ locker room.”

This government overreach is troubling and makes plain the radical and aggressive nature of the secular leftist agenda. For too many Americans, this story is an oddity, something you read about online and shake your head but it's not THE ISSUE you focus on. But here's the thing, to secular leftists it is the main thing. This is nothing short of a war on gender with far reaching religious freedom implications. 

The city of Houston, which voted for Obama in the last two elections, just overhwelmingly voted down what was called "the bathroom bill." So, I predict, that the days of transgender activists taking their case to the people is done. They saw how gay marriage won. It wasn't by votes. It was by government fiat. They appealed to judges. They went to the government. And they found great success that way. The great cultural seismic shifts no longer occur democratically in America. It is now a top down do-what-we-say-or-else approach. It's no longer about persuasion, it's about threats. It comes in the form of judges and bureacrats working for commissions and departments you never heard of making announcements and rulings.

Think about this for a moment, the Obama administration believes this issue is more important than educating children. How important do you think it is? If America doesn't wake up to this threat...it's curtains.
