This Rome Reports video explains how the Soviet Union’s spy agency manufactured claims that wartime Pope Pius XII abandoned Jews to the Nazi Holocaust.
It’s based on this January 2007 National Review Online article written by Ion Mihai Pacepa, a former senior Soviet spy.
The article is useful background information to reference during Pope Benedict XVI’s trip this week to Israel, during which the claims against Pius are certain to be recirculated by some media outlets and other critics of his Holy Land visit.
