What happens if you forgot to repent of a sin before baptism? Will you still be forgiven? How can you fix the situation?

Is it okay to pay taxes knowing that the government will use some of the money to support Planned Parenthood and abortion?

Did the Virgin Mary ever receive Communion? If not, why not? If yes, why did she need to?

Is it okay to play Dungeons & Dragons? How about other role-playing games (RPGs)? What are we to make of them?

These are among the questions we explore in this week’s episode of the Jimmy Akin Podcast!

Our Blessed Lady told Ven. Mary of Agreda as stated in the “Mystical City of God” that she did receive Jesus at the Last Supper of course, she received Jesus in the Masses that the Apostles did in her presence, especially from St. John.  +JMJ+

Benedictus Deus in saecula! Jimmy, thank you for this offering. Truly, you are sent to us by God. It is only today that I have become aware of your podcast; I shall listen habitually henceforth. :)

JMJ: It is good to hear from someone else that is aware of the Mystical City of God, such an indispensable reference source for information concerning the Holy Family of Nazareth.  With numerous approbations, I am concerned when I read answers to question by someone who says we don’t really know something which I know is included in this document.  They are not required to believe in private revelation, but I should think they would be aware of it and at least acknowledge its existence for those who might be interested. I never miss an opportunity to point out an inconsistency as you have done.  It is a challenge to read such a lengthy document but after I started it, there was never s doubt that I would finish it, or that I would ever stop making others aware of it.

I am skeptical about historicity of details given in MCoG and similar works.

But there is no reason to believe that the Theotokos did NOT receive Communion as part of church life, just like faithful do today.

Thank you so much for your comments on RPGs! My husband introduced me to gaming in college and we’ve been playing off and on (with both Catholics and non-Catholics) ever since. I completely agree that it is a judgment call about each game individually. We always strive to play moral games and have found many times that when players and GMs turn away from authentic morality in the game, it makes for a confusing, unnatural and unsatisfying story. If any of our friends or parents of our children’s friends have questions about roleplaying, this podcast will be so helpful in explaining it to them. Thanks again!

“Is it okay to pay taxes knowing that the government will use some of the money to support Planned Parenthood and abortion?”

“Come on, Jimmy, that is such a lame question.

If it’s OK for Catholics, including bishops and clergy, to give their name identification and votes to the pro-abortion party, why would it NOT be “okay to pay taxes” knowing some of your money will be going to pay for the murder of unborn and, some just born, babies?

The bigger problem for Catholics is not their taxes going to pay for such murders; its their continuing to be the largest, single voting block for the Democrat Party which is the only party responsible for abortion on demand remaining – legal – the past 38 years.

The abortion issue as a partisan issue was set up by Nixon as a way to split the catholic vote.  Before 1972 the two parties were not defined by a stance on abortion.  Nixon picked up on the abortion issue as a way to DEFINE the Democratic party as a “party of abortion” by staking out the opposite position in a polarizing way. The GOP essentially created the illusion that the dems were 100% pro-choice, when they were in reality the same as the GOP. They figured the odds and decided it would be a net gain after factoring in the losses.  In reality the GOP of the time was split (as it is today).  They have picked away at the issue ever since but never really seek to outlaw abortion as that would require giving up a big chunk of moderate republicans who are not that interested.  They’ve played it out ever since to keep the issue at a boil nut no more.  Roe is the best thing ever since it lets the GOP “take action” and pass laws in the states knowing full well they won’t have to enforce them as they will get overturned by the Fed courts.  PP is just the latest phoney drama.

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant pastor or seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith. Eventually, he was compelled in conscience to enter the Catholic Church, which he did in 1992. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is a Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to This Rock magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."
