Good Fridays: Latin Lovers, Catholic Voters and Lots of Stories

Here are some good things going on in the Church:

Facing the Choice - One of the main reasons women get abortions is because they are scared about their unplanned pregnancy and think they are alone. This website aims to share other stories of unplanned pregnancies and how the women involved got through it. They have the first video up now - it’s very inspiring. This project has a lot of potential.

Latin Lovers - If you love Latin, this guy is tweeting the book of proverbs in Latin.

One Billion Stories - The Catholic Church has over a billion people. That means it has over a billion living stories to tell. Seth DeMoor grabbed his camera and hopped on his bike to go out and capture them. A very, very cool idea. (Here’s a post I did on Seth when he was in the middle of his first pilgrimage.)

Catholic Techies - If you are a Catholic and like to geek out about gear, gadgets, and social media, here are two online communities you need to be a part of. The first is Open Source Catholic. The second is Catholic Tech Talk.

#CathMedia - There’s a new hash tag on Twitter for all things Catholic Media. This is what collaboration looks like. Just click here to see the “Catholic Media” conversation on Twitter. Don’t be shy.

Online Kid Community - YourSphere.com was created by a Catholic Mom who wanted a safe place for her kids to social network. “Yoursphere.com offers a vibrant, online, interactive, experience for kids and teens. [...] We verify identities, require parental consent, perform a predator check, and use both technology and human oversight to monitor site activity.”

I am the Catholic Vote - It’s that time of year again…the time of year where CatholicVote.org does something really cool. This year they’re inviting YOU to be in their newest commercial. Simply send in your photo or video with your message on it. They’ll even mail you a sign to help you out. Check the details here. I requested my sign this past week. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

Major in New Evangelization - John Paul the Great Catholic University now offers a major in the New Evangelization. That’s really cool. It includes an emphasis on the use of new media technologies to more effectively share the Gospel with the world. I love it.

Have a great weekend!

Good Fridays is a weekly series highlighting some good things going on in the Church - especially those using new media or innovative ideas to more effectively live out the mission of the Church.
