FREE Online Crash Course in the Catholic Faith

John Paul the Great Catholic University is offering a FREE online crash course in the Catholic Faith. In the span of just 13 weeks - one session per week - you'll get lessons on:

  • Jesus and Apostolic Succession
  • Natural Philosophy
  • Proof for God's Existence
  • Philosophical Anthropology
  • Creation-Redemption
  • Revelation
  • The Trinity
  • Church - Family of God - Mystical Body of Christ
  • Sacraments - Marriage
  • Eucharist
  • Moral Issues
  • Sins - Confession
  • Prayer

Best of all - it's totally free. This is a project put together by the students at John Paul the Great and with the help and oversight of their professors. Each session involves a 30 minute video, lecture notes, readings, study guides and quizzes. It's all online. New Media is a subject they focus on quite a bit at JP Catholic, so it's neat to see them using new media to offer this great resource to all of us for this Year of Faith.

Here's an introduction video explaining more:

I'm planning on doing this course. If anyone wants to join me, maybe we can contribute to the discussion on their Facebook page or just use #pillars on Twitter (unless they designate a different one). I hope you'll join me even if you've had similar classes in the past. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I would encourage you to share this with anyone - Catholic or not - who would like to add a little depth to their understanding of Catholicism. You can't beat free. And you can't underestimate the impact this could have on somebody's life who wants to learn a little bit more.

Check out more on the Pillars of Catholicism website. I think it all kicks off on August 20th. Sounds like a great opportunity to me! What do you think?

Update: I don't think registration starts until Aug 20th. So I don't think you'll see any options to do so until then. And I'm not sure if that's also the same day of the first class. But it appears you'll be able to watch the class at your own time and pace each week (as the material stays available after initially posted).
