Archbishop Vincent Nichols

Archbishop Vincent Nichols has been appointed as the new Archbishop of Westminster by Pope Benedict XVI.

Archbishop Nichols, who was serving as archbishop of Birmingham until his new appointment today, will succeed retiring Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor.

In his capacity as Archbishop of Westminster, Archbishop Nichols also will succeed Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor as the primate of England and Wales.
