Death by Regulation

For years, progressives unable to convince a majority of Americans of the rightness of their opinions looked to judges to change the law of the land via fiat, rather than putting their ideas up for a vote.

This has had disastrous consequences for this country. Access to abortion would clearly be very different in America if legislatures were allowed to vote but instead a majority of justices declared the killing of the unborn a “right” thereby cutting off all debate and leaving America with some of the most liberal abortion laws in the world.

The New York Times is now reporting a new end run around the peopl. Due to Republicans gaining strength in Congress, the Obama administration may look to regulation rather than legislation to pushing massive changes. In fact, it’s already starting.

Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency established a timetable for the regulation of CO2 emissions due to supposedly man-made, CO2-caused global warming despite Congress never giving the EPA that power.

The FCC released its “net neutrality” rules, which will allowed the federal government to begin regulating the Internet. This occurred despite a federal court ruling that said the FCC didn’t have the authority to do so.

And now, the HHS just introduced new price controls and included the return of… death panels.

Under the new policy, outlined in a Medicare regulation, the government will pay doctors who advise patients on options for end-of-life care, which may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment.

The advice may include advanced directives to authorize withdrawal of lifesaving medical treatment or, in three states, assisted suicide, according to LifeNews.com.

This adds another class of people who are more important than “We the people.” These latest maneuvers mark the asendancy of the “expert” over the electorate and give government power over energy, communication and now even life and death.
