Judge Robert Bork (CNS)
Newsweek has published an interview in which Robert Bork discusses, among other things, the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court.
He calls it “a bad mistake.”
During the interview, Bork notes that his own 1987 nomination to the Supreme Court was torpedoed solely because of a justified fear he would have voted to overturn the court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision on abortion:
Your own confirmation hearing in 1987 is often called a watershed for the [Supreme Court nomination] process.
It wouldn’t have been but for the fact that I looked like the fifth vote to overrule Roe v. Wade. And in modern politics, that is a subject that raises hysteria.
Would you have been the fifth vote to overturn Roe v. Wade?Oh, of course. It’s one of the most corrupt decisions I’ve ever seen.
