Zenit has posted some significant news about the discussions between the Vatican and the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X.

Bishop Bernard Fellay, the society’s superior general, told Zenit the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith will oversee future discussions with the SSPX. Pope Benedict XVI’s assignment of the file to the CDF is significant, as it reflects the Pope’s determination that the traditionalist society fully acknowledge the validity of the doctrinal content of the Second Vatican Council and of subsequent magisterial teachings as a condition for the restoration of the SSPX into full communion with the Church.

The Zenit piece also provides Bishop Fellay’s explanation of the SSPX’s plans to ordain new priests and deacons in Bavaria, an action that could result in new excommunications against of the traditionalist society. Go here to read the complete article.
