Anti-Catholic HHS Stacks Deck Against Church

If there is one rule about government contracts, it is that the process is to be impartial.  The United States Health and Human Services Department, headed by the anti Catholic Catholic Kathleen Sebelius, doesn’t do impartiality.  At least when it comes to the Church.

Each year HHS awards grants to those who assist victims of the horrific practice of Human Trafficking.  A committee at the HHS evaluated groups that can provide these services, among them is the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Church.  In fact, the Church has provided these services extremely well for years.

The committee evaluated at least four groups that could provide the services and ranked the Catholic Church at the top.  In fact, the review panel scored the other three groups “well below” the Church.

So it should come as no surprise that the other three groups got the grants, the Church did not.

Why?  Because we are Catholic.

Political appointees intervened in the decision making process to stack the deck against the Church giving undue and unreasonable weight to those service providers “offering referrals for family planning and the “full range” of “gynecological and obstetric care.’”The full range, of course, includes contraceptives and abortion.  In other words, Catholics need not apply.

This decision is so egregious and biased that according to the Washington Post, it prompted “a protest from some HHS staffers, who said the process was unfair and politicized, individuals familiar with the matter said. Their concerns have been reported to the HHS inspector general’s office.”

Do you know how biased you need to be to get HHS staffers to object?  Even Jack Chick would think this decision to be anti-Catholic.

Of course, this is just the last in an assault on religious liberty emanating from HHS and the Obama administration.  As Joan Desmond reported last week, this assault has even prompted the USCCB to form an Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty.

It is not that I don’t think an Ad Hoc committee will do the trick since they have solved so many problems in the past, but just to be safe I think we ought to make sure that we send President Obama and Kathleen Sebelius packing.

As evidenced by this decision, they hate the Church and all she stands for and they don’t care who knows it.  Coupled with the fact that they have zero respect for religious liberty and conscience, they represent a clear and present danger to life and the Church.
