Several sites are reporting that Father Roy Bourgeois has been excommunicated (even his Wikipedia entry has been updated!). At this writing the reports, including Wikipedia, are citing a Nov. 12 press release as evidence.
We wonder why the press release is dated Nov. 12, and doesn’t mention excommunication. I have a call in. More when we hear it.... READ MORE

Sen. Joe Biden at Samuel Alito's 2005 confirmation hearings. (AFP)
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and Vice President-elect Joe Biden are both Catholics, but that’s just about all that they have in common.
Biden was one of the U.S. Senators who most strongly opposed Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court in 20005, primarily because Biden and other liberal Senate Democrats worried that Alito’s solid... READ MORE

I said last week that Matt Lickona’s interesting review nonetheless didn’t tell me whether or not my daughter can watch the movie Twilight.
If you’re reading, dear, I just read Steven D. Greydanus and, ahem, you can’t.
Writing on his own site, DecentFilms.com, the Register’s film critic compares Twilight, helpfully, to Titanic. Both movies have... READ MORE

Russell Shaw warns that “Assorted Catholic voices have been raised lately calling on Catholics to give President-elect Obama a chance and look for common ground between him and the Church. Part of the message is: ‘Don’t worry about the Freedom of Choice Act.’”
He lists in the “Don’t Worry” crowd: The editors of Commonweal, the National Catholic... READ MORE
